The vehicle’s name and specifications vary by market. It is sold as the iCAR V23 in China and Indonesia, the Chery V23 in Thailand, and appears as the iCAUR V23 in the ASEAN NCAP report. Prices, equipment and ownership terms from one country should not be assumed to apply in another.
Is the Chery V23 affordable?
There is no single global price. The figures below are market-specific manufacturer announcements, not like-for-like prices across countries. Check the local trim, taxes, delivery charges, incentives and current dealer offers before comparing.

What do the advertised range figures mean?
China: CLTC figures
The China-market page lists five versions: 401 two-wheel-drive Advanced, 401 two-wheel-drive Intelligent Driving, 550 two-wheel-drive Intelligent Driving, 501 four-wheel-drive High-End, and 501 four-wheel-drive Intelligent Driving. Its published range choices are 401 km, 550 km and 501 km, measured on the CLTC cycle. These are manufacturer figures for China-market versions, not independently measured distances or predictions for highway, winter or mixed driving. See the China-market variants and specifications.
Thailand: a different test cycle
The official Thai model page presents range using NEDC, so its figures should not be directly compared with China’s CLTC numbers as if they came from the same test. For a purchase decision, check the local battery and charging specifications, charging compatibility and access to chargers on your regular routes. Treat the published cycle figure as a standardized comparison point, not a guarantee of the distance you will cover.
Does the “mini-Defender” label hold up?
As a description of visual style, it is understandable. Chery Thailand describes the V23 as retro-style with a bold, boxy design, and the China-market materials emphasize customization. Those points support a comparison of appearance and personalization; they do not establish equivalent off-road engineering or performance. Chery Thailand’s description and iCAR’s China-market product information describe the vehicle, not a comparative trail test.

The sources available do not provide comparative off-road testing or establish, for every market and trim, ground clearance, approach and departure angles, water-fording ability, suspension articulation, underbody protection, tire suitability, recovery provisions or durability on trails. The V23 is therefore not shown to be a Defender substitute. - Geometry and protection: ask for the exact trim’s ground clearance, approach and departure geometry, and underbody protection rather than relying on photographs.
- Traction and recovery: check the tires, available traction controls and recovery provisions against the terrain you expect to drive.
- Evidence: look for independent testing of the exact version, not just styling claims or specifications from a different market.
What is established about safety?
ASEAN NCAP’s digital assessment report dated 24 December 2025 gives the Chery iCAUR V23 an overall score of 91.02 under its 2021–2025 assessment protocol. The report describes it as the first EV under the Chery brand assessed under that protocol. What do Indonesian ownership terms cover?
At the Indonesian launch on 23 May 2026, iCAR announced an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, five years/75,000 km of scheduled service and parts support, and three years of roadside-assistance membership. Can you customize it or fit a roof rack?
The China-market product page says the V23 has 24 reserved modification interfaces and roof-rack provisions, with a claimed 200 kg static load capacity. Static capacity is not a safe driving load rating: it does not establish how much a rack can carry while the vehicle is moving or whether a particular aftermarket rack fits.
