For U.S. shoppers comparing 2026 new cars, the Subaru BRZ has the lowest listed starting figure among the three entry-level sports cars documented here: $30,095. Mazda lists the manual MX-5 Miata Sport at $30,730, and Toyota lists the GR86 at $31,400. These are manufacturer starting figures, not verified destination-included totals, so they do not establish which car is cheapest at the dealership. This comparison covers the entry-price tier only; it does not identify a winner for every possible budget bracket.
Which 2026 sports car has the lowest listed starting price?
On the listed figures, Subaru’s 2026 BRZ is lowest at $30,095, followed by Mazda’s manual 2026 MX-5 Miata Sport at $30,730 and Toyota’s 2026 GR86 at $31,400. The BRZ and GR86 are closely priced; Mazda’s current figure reflects a recently announced price change. The manufacturer pages and release do not establish a like-for-like, destination-included ranking for all three cars.
| 2026 model and entry configuration | Official starting figure | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Subaru BRZ | $30,095 | Starting price shown on Subaru’s 2026 BRZ page; the cited information does not confirm the destination-fee basis. |
| Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport, manual | $30,730 | Current listing on Mazda’s 2026 MX-5 page; Mazda separately identifies destination and handling charges. |
| Toyota GR86 | $31,400 | Starting MSRP shown on Toyota’s 2026 GR86 page; the cited information does not confirm a destination-included total. |
These numbers are useful for narrowing a search, not as out-the-door quotes. Compare the same cost basis before deciding: whether destination is included, which trim and transmission the entry figure represents, and the dealer’s actual price. Taxes, title, regional charges, and dealer pricing can change what a buyer pays.
Why the MX-5 price needs a date and fee qualification
Mazda North American Operations announced a $300 increase to the 2026 MX-5 MSRP effective September 15, 2026. The same release says that this change did not affect dealer inventory that already had window labels. Mazda also set the U.S. destination and handling fee at $1,315 effective August 11, 2026, or $1,360 in Alaska. Its release says MSRP excludes destination and handling, taxes, title, and additional fees, and that dealers set actual sale prices. See Mazda’s 2026 MX-5 pricing and packaging release for those dated terms.

Consequently, a shopper may encounter already-labeled inventory with pricing that predates the September adjustment, as well as cars priced under the newer listing. Confirm the window sticker and the dealer’s written quote for the specific vehicle rather than assuming the website figure is the final price.
How to choose among these entry-level sports cars
The figures alone do not make the three cars interchangeable. The MX-5 figure specifically applies to the manual Sport entry trim, while the cited price information does not provide a complete, comparable trim-and-equipment breakdown for the BRZ and GR86. Subaru identifies the BRZ as rear-wheel drive; the gathered price evidence is not enough to make a detailed comparison of performance, cargo capacity, seating, or ownership costs.

- Opening parts, Rolling Wheels
- Easy assembly, Pre-painted metal body
- When finished the vehicles are fully functional
- Rolling die-cast replica
- Start with the body and roof you want. The MX-5 is a convertible roadster; the BRZ and GR86 are two-door coupes. Decide whether open-air driving matters before comparing equipment.
- Check the exact entry configuration. Confirm the trim, transmission, and included equipment on the dealer’s window sticker. Do not assume the lowest listed figure applies to an automatic or to a differently equipped car.
- Compare complete quotes. Ask each dealer for the vehicle price, destination, dealer-installed options, taxes, title, and registration in writing. A starting MSRP is not a transaction-price comparison.
- Verify local availability. Inventory and dealer pricing vary by location and vehicle. A model with a slightly higher listed start may be the more attainable specific car if it is available nearby at a better quoted price.
Does this identify the cheapest sports car in every price bracket?
No. The available current manufacturer figures support a comparison of three closely priced entry-level candidates, not a market-wide ranking across multiple budget bands. The evidence does not establish winners for higher price brackets or for every model that might qualify as a sports car. Toyota’s broader sports-car lineup page is a starting point for exploring its models, but this comparison does not assign a price-bracket winner beyond the three listed entry figures.
