If “won’t break the bank” means a new car under $30,000, the current U.S. lineup does not offer ten verified choices—and the reviewed list does not show even one. The least expensive new manual car in the September 2026 price comparison is the 2026 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport, at $30,730 MSRP before destination, tax, options, or dealer pricing. The next listed choices start above $31,000. The ten-car promise therefore needs a clear price definition and used-car research; the figures below cover only the verified new-car shortlist.

What are the cheapest new cars with a manual transmission?

For a transparent comparison, “affordable” here means the lowest manufacturer suggested retail prices among new U.S.-market cars with a manual transmission, not a claim that the cars are inexpensive for every household. OctaneDaily’s September 26, 2026 comparison lists these seven models in ascending base-price order. Prices are before destination, taxes, options, and any dealer pricing; they are not drive-away totals. OctaneDaily

Model year and car Listed base MSRP Where the manual is available
2026 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport $30,730 Manual transmission is standard across trims.
2026 Honda Civic Si $31,495 Six-speed manual only.
2027 Toyota GR86 $31,500 Manual offered on Base and Premium trims.
2026 Mazda3 Hatchback 2.5 S Premium $31,650 Manual listed only on the 2.5 S Premium hatchback.
2026 Subaru WRX $32,495 Six-speed manual except on the GT trim.
2026 Hyundai Elantra N $35,300 Manual configuration included in the comparison; verify current trim availability with Hyundai.
2027 Subaru BRZ $36,140 Verify the manual-equipped trim and current ordering availability with Subaru.

Destination is listed separately for the Miata at $1,315, bringing that stated price to $32,045 before tax, options, or dealer pricing. The comparison does not provide destination amounts for the other cars, so their totals cannot be calculated from these figures.

Can you buy a new manual car under $30,000?

Not among the seven cars in this September 2026 comparison: the lowest listed MSRP is $30,730, and each other listed base price is higher. This does not establish that no dealer could offer a discount or that no unlisted vehicle exists; it means the reviewed shortlist does not substantiate a new manual car below $30,000. Check the manufacturer’s current configurator and local inventory before setting a firm budget.

Sticker price is only one part of the purchase cost. Destination, taxes, options, dealer pricing, and inventory all affect the amount a buyer pays. Some automakers’ broad “under $30,000” pages do not prove a manual is offered: Nissan’s page lists a 2025 Versa from $17,190 without establishing a manual configuration, while Toyota’s page lists the 2026 Corolla from $23,125 without establishing one either. Nissan’s under-$30,000 page and Toyota’s under-$30,000 page

Which affordable cars still come with a stick shift?

The shortlist spans a two-seat roadster, a performance-oriented sedan, rear-wheel-drive coupes, a hatchback, and sport sedans. These are not interchangeable choices: compare the body style and space you need alongside price, and confirm the exact model year and trim. Manual availability is sometimes standard, sometimes limited to particular trims, and can change between model years.

Roadster: Mazda MX-5 Miata

The Miata is the least expensive new manual car in the comparison, and the manual is standard across its trims. Its two-seat roadster layout makes it a specialized choice rather than a direct substitute for a family sedan or hatchback.

Sedans: Honda Civic Si, Subaru WRX, and Hyundai Elantra N

The Civic Si is listed as six-speed manual only, but its availability needs special attention: OctaneDaily reports that it is paused after model year 2026, with some 2026 inventory potentially continuing into early 2027. That is not a guarantee of future orderability, so verify with Honda or a dealer before relying on it. The WRX’s 2026 manual is six-speed and excludes the GT trim. The Elantra N is also on the list at a higher base price; confirm the precise manual configuration with Hyundai.

Coupes: Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ

The GR86 manual is offered on Base and Premium trims, while the BRZ appears as a 2027 entry in the comparison. Check the current manufacturer configuration for the BRZ’s manual-equipped trim and local availability rather than assuming that every trim or model year offers it.

Hatchback: Mazda3

The manual is listed only for the 2026 Mazda3 Hatchback 2.5 S Premium. Buyers comparing Mazda3 listings should check both body style and trim; the manual should not be assumed to be available across the range.

Why the list has seven cars, not ten

A ten-car article that calls every option a bargain would overstate what the current new-car prices show. The verified shortlist contains seven models, and even its least expensive entry starts above $30,000 before destination and other charges. Reaching ten genuinely affordable choices would require expanding the scope to used cars and defining a geography, model-year range, mileage and condition filters, and an all-in price ceiling. Comparable used-car prices were not established here, so naming three more models or assigning them prices would not be a sound comparison.

The market is also narrowing. GearJunkie counts 29 model-year 2026 U.S. vehicles with manual transmissions across cars, trucks, and SUVs, down from 32 in its 2025 comparison. That is the outlet’s model count, not a government statistic or a measure of sales. GearJunkie’s 2026 comparison

Should you buy a used manual car instead?

A used car may be the more realistic route if your ceiling is below the listed new-car prices, but the right comparison depends on local listings rather than a national guess. Before comparing candidates, set a maximum total purchase cost and use the same basic filters for each listing:

  • Model year and exact trim, including confirmation that the car was built with a manual transmission.
  • Mileage, condition, and documented service history.
  • Local supply and the vehicle’s total purchase cost, not just its advertised price.
  • Whether a qualified pre-purchase inspection is available before you commit.

Without dated listings matched for location, mileage, and condition, there is no reliable basis here to say which used models are cheapest or how much less they cost than the new cars above.

How to verify a manual car before buying

  1. Open the current manufacturer configurator. Select the model year, body style, and trim, then confirm that the transmission selector explicitly offers a manual.
  2. Check the price components. Separate base MSRP from destination, options, taxes, dealer pricing, and other charges; compare total quotes on the same basis.
  3. Confirm local availability. Ask the dealer whether the specific manual-equipped configuration is in stock, orderable, or limited to remaining inventory.
  4. Recheck before signing. Model-year transitions, paused trims, and inventory can change availability after a list is published.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
