For U.S. shoppers, Kelley Blue Book’s 2025 comparison lists the Hyundai Kona Electric at a $22,000 starting-price figure, followed by the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Chevrolet Equinox EV at $24,600 each, and the Volkswagen ID.4 at $26,000. Those are figures displayed by the comparison page—not confirmed local offers or out-the-door prices. Verify the exact trim, current inventory and a written dealer quote before deciding.
Which electric SUVs does the 2025 price comparison list as cheapest?
The opening four entries on Kelley Blue Book’s “16 Cheapest Electric SUVs of 2025” page provide a useful shortlist. Its “Starting Price” figures are reproduced below as listed; the page does not establish that they are current transaction prices, manufacturer MSRP or amounts available in every location.
| KBB page rank | 2025 model | Listed starting-price figure | Other detail stated on the page |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hyundai Kona Electric | $22,000 | Up to 261 miles of range; 116 MPGe |
| 2 | Hyundai IONIQ 5 | $24,600 | 114 MPGe |
| 3 | Chevrolet Equinox EV | $24,600 | Up to 319 miles per charge; 108 MPGe |
| 4 | Volkswagen ID.4 | $26,000 | 102 MPGe |
These figures are a screening snapshot, not a promise that a shopper can buy that vehicle for the listed amount. Destination charges, dealer fees, configuration, local inventory, incentives and eligibility can change the amount due. Ask for a current, written quote for the specific trim and location you are considering.
Why can a listed starting price differ from the manufacturer’s price?
Price labels are not interchangeable. A comparison-site starting price, manufacturer MSRP, dealer discount, incentive and out-the-door total can refer to different things. For example, Hyundai’s official 2025 IONIQ 5 page gives an estimated starting MSRP of $42,600 before freight, tax, title and license, while Kelley Blue Book lists a $24,600 starting-price figure for that model in its comparison. The two figures have different stated bases; neither should be silently substituted for the other.

Before comparing offers, have the dealer identify the trim and drivetrain, show the vehicle price and itemized fees, and state which incentives are included and what eligibility conditions apply. Compare the resulting written quotes on the same basis. Local prices, available trims and offers are time-sensitive.
How much range do the affordable electric SUVs get?
Range depends on the specific trim and drivetrain. The comparison page reports up to 261 miles for the Kona Electric and up to 319 miles for the Equinox EV, but those “up to” figures are not a range guarantee for every configuration. For the Hyundai models, the manufacturers publish more trim-specific figures:

2025 Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai’s official 2025 Kona Electric page gives EPA-estimated ranges of 200 miles for SE, 230 miles for N Line, and 261 miles for SEL and Limited. The 261-mile figure therefore does not apply to every Kona Electric trim.
2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5
Hyundai’s official 2025 IONIQ 5 page lists EPA-estimated ranges of 318 miles for SE, SEL and Limited RWD; 290 miles for SE and SEL AWD; 269 miles for Limited AWD; 259 miles for XRT AWD; and 245 miles for SE RWD Standard Range. Its 318-mile figure applies to the specified RWD trims, not the full lineup.

EPA estimates help compare configurations on a standardized basis, but they are not a guarantee of the distance a particular driver will cover. Use the estimate for the exact trim and drivetrain, then consider whether it fits your routine and charging access.

It's not compatible with NEMA 6-15/10-30/14-30/14-50/6-50 outlets – you'll need a NEMA 14-50/14-30/10-30/6-50 to 6-20 adapter (sold separately) to connect.

- Indication Displays - LED display that can tell you the status as well as indicate errors while charging your electric vehicle.
- Price basis: Separate the comparison listing from MSRP, negotiated price, incentives and the final out-the-door quote.
- Range: Check the published estimate for the chosen trim and drivetrain rather than relying on a model’s maximum figure.
- Efficiency: MPGe is another published comparison point, but it does not replace range or tell you your likely electricity cost by itself.
- Seating and cargo: Match the vehicle’s capacity to your household and routine. The Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center vehicle data includes fields such as seating and electric-only range; its 2025 Kia EV9 entries illustrate that configurations under one model name can differ in price, seating and range.
- Drivetrain and charging: Confirm the configuration you want and review its charging specifications, connector compatibility and access to suitable charging. Do not assume every trim or vehicle supports the same setup.
- Availability and eligibility: Check local stock, fees, incentives and any qualifications immediately before purchase; the comparison page does not settle these for your location.
What should you know about home charging?
Home charging can make an electric SUV more practical, but choosing equipment depends on the vehicle’s compatibility, your charging needs and the home’s electrical capacity. The AFDC vehicle data includes Level 2 charging-rate fields for some vehicles; that information alone does not establish compatibility with a particular charger or whether your home needs electrical work.
Before buying a Level 2 charger, confirm the vehicle’s official charging specifications and connector, assess where and how quickly you need to charge, and have installation requirements checked for your home. A charger’s advertised rate is not a promise that the vehicle or household electrical setup will support that rate.

How to get a useful quote
- Choose the configuration: Identify the model year, trim and drivetrain you want; range and equipment may vary across versions.
- Ask for an itemized written quote: Request the vehicle price, destination and other fees, and the out-the-door total for your location.
- Separate incentives: Ask which offers are included, whether they depend on eligibility, and how the price changes if you do not qualify.
- Compare like with like: Put quotes for the same trim and price basis side by side, then weigh range, efficiency, seating, cargo and charging against the difference in cost.
