CFMOTO 300NK vs. Honda XR300L Tornado: What the 2025 Models Actually Offer

The 300NK and XR300L Tornado have similar displacement but different riding roles. Here’s what the Canada- and Mexico-market 2025 specifications can—and can’t—tell you.

This comparison uses the 2025 CFMOTO 300NK listed in Canada and the 2025 Honda XR300L Tornado listed in Mexico. Those are different-market versions, not a same-country price or equipment comparison. The bikes also have different priorities: CFMOTO positions the 300NK as a street-oriented naked motorcycle, while Honda presents the XR300L Tornado for adventure and varied roads. Confirm the exact local model year, equipment, dealer support, warranty and price before deciding.

How the two motorcycles differ

Their engine displacements are close, but that does not make them direct substitutes. The Canadian 300NK has 17-inch alloy wheels and a low-seat, urban-road format. Honda Mexico describes the XR300L Tornado as an adventure motorcycle for everyday use and varied roads. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent findings about how either bike performs off pavement.

In practical terms, start with where you will ride. For primarily paved commuting and urban trips, the 300NK’s street format is the more natural fit to investigate. If you want a motorcycle marketed for varied roads, examine the XR300L Tornado’s local tires, wheels, suspension and ground clearance rather than relying on its positioning alone.

Published specifications for these market-specific versions

The figures below come from manufacturer pages for Canada and Mexico. They should not be treated as a matched-market specification sheet; some equipment and specifications may vary by country.

What the specification gap means for a buyer

Engine figures are not a complete performance comparison

The Canadian 300NK’s published peak power is higher than the Mexican XR300L Tornado’s, but the figures come from different regional product pages and do not establish how the bikes compare in acceleration, gearing, fuel economy or real-world riding. No head-to-head test data is available here. Choose based on the local version’s full specification and a test ride, not one peak-power number.

Fit and off-pavement suitability need an in-person check

CFMOTO lists the Canadian 300NK’s seat height as 795 mm. Honda’s reviewed Mexico page does not give a comparable XR300L Tornado seat-height or weight figure, so there is no sound basis here to declare which bike is easier to handle at a stop. Sit on both if possible, and assess reach to the ground, handlebar position, low-speed balance and how manageable each feels when stationary.

For rough roads, ask the local dealer for the exact model’s wheel sizes, tire type, suspension travel, ground clearance and ABS behavior. The available manufacturer pages do not establish a complete, same-market comparison of those details.

Do not mix regional specifications

CFMOTO Australia’s separate page lists the 300NK at 292.4 cc, 27.5 hp and 25 Nm, with a 795 mm seat height, 151 kg dry weight, 150 mm ground clearance and AUD $5,990 ride-away pricing. Those are Australian-market figures and use a different weight description from Canada’s curb-weight figure; they are not substitutes for the Canadian specifications. The Australian page also describes a different warranty program.

CFMOTO’s Philippines page lists PHP ₱146,900 and 292 cc, but its power and torque labels are inconsistent. Do not use its 21.4 kW and 25.3 Nm text as a reliable comparison without checking the technical specification for the exact local model. Sources: CFMOTO Australia 300NK and CFMOTO Philippines 300NK.

Prices and warranty are not directly comparable across countries

CFMOTO Canada’s page displays CAD $5,499 as the vehicle price and CAD $6,124 as the total MSRP including stated freight and preparation. The displayed total excludes registration, taxes, accessories and installation. Honda Mexico lists MXN $134,990 for the XR300L Tornado. These prices use different currencies, markets and fee bases, so they do not establish which motorcycle costs less for a buyer in either country.

Warranty terms are regional too. CFMOTO Canada’s page describes five years: 12 months of limited manufacturer coverage and 48 months of limited powertrain coverage. CFMOTO Australia’s page describes a three-year program with a conditional extension. Honda’s reviewed Mexico page does not state warranty terms. Check the written warranty for the motorcycle sold in your country, including its exclusions and conditions.

How to make a fair local comparison

  1. Confirm the exact motorcycles. Check country, model year and full model designation on the registration or dealer paperwork. Honda Mexico identifies its 2025 model as the XR300L Tornado; do not assume it is identical to a different Honda model or to versions sold elsewhere.
  2. Match the terrain to the bike. Decide how much of your riding is paved city or highway use and how much is on rough or unpaved roads. Verify the local bike’s equipment for the surfaces you actually expect to ride.
  3. Compare fit and controls in person. Check seat reach, handlebar reach, weight and low-speed balance rather than inferring comfort from engine size or the published seat height of just one model.
  4. Get like-for-like written quotes. Ask each dealer for an out-the-door price that itemizes freight, preparation, registration, taxes, dealer fees, accessories and installation. Apply the same cost categories to both quotes.
  5. Check ownership support locally. Compare written warranty terms, service requirements, parts availability and the distance to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer pages cited here do not settle those questions for every market.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the 300NK as the starting point if your priority is a street-oriented naked motorcycle for paved and urban riding. Investigate the XR300L Tornado if you want Honda’s adventure-oriented approach to varied roads, but verify its local specifications and suitability for your intended routes. Because the documented versions are from Canada and Mexico, the evidence does not support a universal winner on price, equipment, ownership costs or overall value.
