The demonstration pairs Wayve’s AI Driver with Stellantis’ STLA AutoDrive; it is not a driverless system or an announcement that either model is available to buy with the feature.
What the Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale demonstration includes
In an announcement dated October 1, 2026, Stellantis and Wayve said visitors at Wave by Vento 2026 can experience “hands-free, door-to-door supervised automated driving (Level 2++)” in Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale development vehicles. The event runs October 7–9 in Turin. The companies say Wayve AI Driver is integrated with STLA AutoDrive. Stellantis and Wayve’s announcement also places the work alongside a Jeep Grand Cherokee shown at Stellantis Investor Day: the companies describe a shared AI-driving foundation applied across three vehicles and configurations.
These are development vehicles for an event demonstration. The announcement does not give retail specifications, a production date, or confirmation that these exact Fiat and Maserati models will be offered to customers with the capability.
What Level 2++ hands-free driving means
“Hands-free” describes the driver’s hands not needing to remain on the controls during the demonstrated operation. “Supervised” is the crucial qualification: this is still assistance that requires a human driver to oversee the system, not a driverless ride. “Door-to-door” describes the announced scope of the demonstration, but the release does not publish the prototype’s precise operating conditions, route coverage, speed limits, or driver-monitoring requirements.

Stellantis’ earlier description of STLA AutoDrive 1.0 distinguishes hands-on Level 2, hands-off but eyes-on Level 2+, and hands-free, eyes-off Level 3. Its 2025 platform announcement says Level 3 operates up to 60 km/h (37 mph), while Level 2 and 2+ assistance is available at higher speeds. It also says the driver must remain seated and belted and be ready to take control when prompted. Those are platform-level descriptions, not confirmed specifications for the Fiat 500e or Grecale prototypes. Stellantis’ STLA AutoDrive 1.0 announcement does not establish that the two event vehicles provide eyes-off driving.
How this fits Stellantis and Wayve’s plans
In May 2026, Stellantis and Wayve announced a strategic technology partnership to integrate Wayve AI Driver with STLA AutoDrive for supervised Level 2++ driving in urban and highway environments. The partnership announcement describes the broader collaboration; it does not turn the Turin prototypes into confirmed production vehicles.

Stellantis’ current technology overview says supervised Level 2++ driving for highway and urban scenarios is planned for North America in 2028, with global expansion to follow. That is a company plan, not a guaranteed launch date, and it is not a model-specific retail commitment for the Fiat 500e or Maserati Grecale. Stellantis’ technology overview does not specify when these two models might receive the system.
Are the prototypes available to buy?
No customer availability is announced. The Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale named in the October release are development vehicles for the Turin demonstration. No prices, production schedule, or retail option details for the feature are provided.

What has—and has not—been established
The companies’ releases establish what they are demonstrating and how they describe the system; they do not provide independent validation of safety or performance. No published independent performance result for either prototype is included in the cited materials. They also do not state prototype-specific sensor configurations, intervention rates, exact operating-domain limits, or a detailed driver-monitoring procedure. The 60 km/h figure belongs to Stellantis’ separate 2025 Level 3 platform description, not to a published test of these vehicles.
