Canoo unveiled its planned electric pickup on March 10, 2021, advertising a compact footprint, a configurable bed and work-focused features. The specifications were company-announced targets, not independently verified production results. Canoo and certain subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in January 2025; the available filings do not establish that the truck entered retail production or can be bought today.
What Canoo announced for the pickup
Canoo debuted the truck during the Motor Press Guild’s Virtual Media Day in partnership with Automobility LA. The company said preorders were expected to open in the second quarter of 2021, with deliveries beginning as early as 2023. Those were projections made at the time, not evidence that orders or deliveries ultimately took place. Canoo’s March 10, 2021 announcement described a planned production vehicle, while a May release said final specifications would be disclosed closer to production. Canoo’s May 17, 2021 release
Announced dimensions and capability
In its March 2021 announcement, Canoo listed the following figures for the planned pickup. They are company claims, not independent test results or confirmed final production specifications.
| Specification | Canoo’s March 2021 announcement |
|---|---|
| Motor configurations | Rear-motor or dual-motor |
| Power and torque | Up to 600 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque with dual motors |
| Payload | 1,800 lb |
| Battery range | 200+ miles |
| Wheelbase | 112.2 in (2,850 mm) |
| Overall length | 184 in (4,677 mm), or 213 in (5,400 mm) with the bed extension |
| Width | 78 in (1,980 mm), or 87 in (2,209 mm) with mirrors |
| Steering and braking | Steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire |
Compact exterior, expandable bed
Canoo described the design as cabin-forward and built around its platform architecture. The announced bed was six feet long, with an extension that could lengthen it to eight feet. With the extension in place, the company’s listed overall length grew from 184 to 213 inches. That combination was central to the pitch: a relatively short truck when configured for everyday use, with more bed length available when needed.
Work and cargo features
The announced practical features included front storage, cargo compartments, a fold-down worktable, flip-down side tables, a sidestep with storage, and multi-accessory charge ports. Canoo also described exportable power, tow hooks, metal skid plates and advanced exterior lighting. The release presented these as planned features; it does not establish their availability on a finished production truck.
Why the announced power figures differ
Canoo’s March 10, 2021 release said the dual-motor version would deliver up to 600 hp and 550 lb-ft. Its May 17, 2021 release instead described the dual-motor pickup as having 500+ hp and 550 lb-ft, alongside the same 1,800-lb payload and 200+-mile range claims. The May release also said final specifications would come closer to production. These dated statements should not be blended into a single definitive production specification.

Was the Canoo pickup ever made, and can you buy one?
The sources establish a reveal and planned timetable, not a retail launch. Canoo’s 2021 preorder and delivery dates were forecasts. In a Form 8-K dated January 17, 2025, Canoo reported that it and certain subsidiaries had filed for Chapter 7 liquidation. The filing said a trustee would take control of assets and liabilities for liquidation under the Bankruptcy Code. Canoo’s January 17, 2025 SEC filing
That filing does not establish the final disposition of the Chapter 7 case or whether a later buyer acquired the pickup program or related assets. The available sources do not show that the pickup entered retail production or is currently available to order. Canoo also reported in a January 24, 2025 filing that Nasdaq had determined to delist its securities and that Canoo would not appeal. Canoo’s January 24, 2025 SEC filing

What the reveal tells truck shoppers
The concept’s appeal was its mix of a relatively compact stated exterior length, a bed extension, storage and work surfaces, plus announced electric-truck capability. But there are no confirmed production specifications or independent performance results in these announcements. That means the announced figures cannot support a reliable real-world comparison with trucks that reached production.
Tony Aquila, Canoo’s executive chairman at the time, described the idea as a truck with accessories for people using trucks “on the job, weekends, adventure.” Those remarks explain the intended audience, but they were promotional comments made during the reveal, not independent assessments of the truck’s utility.
