Usually, no—not as a normal factory-order choice. Mazda’s U.S. 2026 MX-5 Miata information publishes a defined, trim-dependent exterior-color palette and four premium paints priced at $595 each. It does not show a process for choosing an entirely bespoke color. That documentation does not prove that Mazda or a dealer could never handle an unpublished exception, so anyone placing an order should ask a Mazda dealer or Mazda customer service about the exact model year, body style, trim and allocation.

Mazda’s vehicle pages also list colors such as Jet Black Mica and Deep Crystal Blue Mica. The complete menu can differ between the soft-top convertible and the RF retractable fastback, and it can differ by trim. Therefore, a color shown somewhere on a Miata page is not automatically orderable on every body style or trim.

The $595 amount is the published U.S. premium-paint charge for the 2026 model information. It is not a quote for a particular dealer, vehicle or later model year.
What “custom paint” can mean
Shoppers use “custom color” for several different requests. Identify which one you mean before asking for an order:
A different color from the current menu
This is the common request: you want a shade Mazda does not display for the selected 2026 soft top, RF or trim. Mazda’s public materials do not describe a customer-selected, one-off color field in the normal ordering process.

A color used on another Miata edition or model year
A color that appeared on a previous special edition, an earlier model year or another Mazda model is not necessarily available for a new 2026 build. Ask the dealer to verify it against the current configuration rather than relying on an old brochure, photograph or online listing.
A fully bespoke color sample
This means supplying a paint code, sample or description and asking the factory to formulate and apply it. The available 2026 U.S. materials do not explain a retail program for that request. - Body style: soft top or RF.
- Trim level and any package that changes the production specification.
- Model year and the production period in which the vehicle will be built.
- Whether the color is offered for that exact combination in the ordering system.
- Whether Mazda has allocated or scheduled a vehicle that matches the request.
An online configurator, a national vehicle page and a dealer’s inventory can therefore show different selections without any one of them being an error. Inventory vehicles are already built; an incoming vehicle may be committed to a dealer; and a factory request is subject to the production allocation Mazda gives that dealer.
How to check before you commit to a Miata
Use this sequence to turn a general color question into an answer about the car you can actually buy.
- Specify the vehicle. Write down “2026 MX-5 Miata,” then identify soft top or RF and the exact trim. Include any package that affects the build.
- List acceptable colors. Separate colors Mazda lists for that configuration from colors you would accept only if an exception were possible.

- “Is this color selectable for the 2026 [soft top/RF] in the [trim] in Mazda’s current system?”
- “Is the quoted vehicle already built, allocated, scheduled or still an unaccepted request?”
- “If the color is not listed, can you submit a formal request to Mazda, and will Mazda provide a written yes or no?”

The last two questions are contractual and financial safeguards. Do not treat an informal statement that someone “should be able to get it” as confirmation of a bespoke paint job.

If Mazda will not supply the color you want
Choose a listed factory color
This is the straightforward path when you want Mazda’s normal production specification and the strongest certainty that the vehicle matches its published equipment description. Compare the listed colors for your exact body style and trim, then request a matching allocation or incoming vehicle.
Wait for a future model year or special edition
Color menus can change. A future release may add, remove or substitute paints, but there is no guarantee that a particular shade will return. Do not pay a deposit on the assumption that an unannounced color will become available.
Use an aftermarket color-change wrap
A wrap can change the visible color without ordering Mazda to paint the car. It remains an aftermarket modification, not a factory paint option. Obtain a detailed quote from an experienced installer and ask about surface preparation, the film and finish being proposed, care requirements, warranty coverage and what happens if the wrap must be removed. Compare complete written quotes rather than comparing only a headline price.

The condition of the underlying paint matters to any wrap decision, so have the car inspected before work begins. Keep records showing that the vehicle was delivered in its original Mazda color and document the wrap installation separately. This helps distinguish factory equipment from later modification when the car is serviced, traded or sold.
What Mazda’s older color language does—and does not—tell you
