Can You Charge a Rivian at Tesla Superchargers? Compatibility Explained

Rivian Supercharger compatibility depends on model year: 2022–2025 CCS1 vehicles need Rivian’s NACS DC adapter; 2026-and-newer vehicles have a native NACS port.

Yes—Rivian vehicles can use compatible Tesla Supercharger sites in North America. Whether you need an adapter depends on the vehicle’s model year: 2022–2025 R1T and R1S models use a CCS1 port and require Rivian’s NACS DC adapter, while 2026-and-newer vehicles have a native NACS port. Not every station or stall is necessarily compatible, so check the current station details before driving there.

Which Rivian models can plug in?

The key distinction is the vehicle’s charge-port standard. Rivian describes 2022–2025 vehicles as having CCS1 ports and model-year 2026-and-newer vehicles as having NACS ports. That determines whether a Supercharger connection needs an adapter.

Rivian vehicle group Charge port Connection at a compatible Tesla Supercharger What to verify
2022–2025 R1T and R1S CCS1 Rivian-provided NACS DC adapter required Use the Rivian-provided DC adapter and confirm that the site is compatible.
2026 and newer Rivian vehicles NACS Plug in directly; no adapter is needed for the Supercharger connection Confirm current site and network availability.

Rivian’s current charging information describes access to more than 21,000 Tesla Supercharger sites in North America; its charging page for 2026-and-newer vehicles cites more than 21,500. These are Rivian’s network figures, not independently audited counts, and may change. The practical point is to check the specific location rather than rely on a network-wide total. What adapter does a 2022–2025 R1T or R1S need?

Use Rivian’s NACS DC adapter, which is listed for compatible 2022–2025 R1T and R1S vehicles with CCS1 ports and compatible Tesla Superchargers. Rivian states that only Rivian-provided NACS DC adapters are authorized for use on the Supercharger network. Do not assume a generic third-party adapter is approved. The adapter is for DC fast charging only. Rivian warns not to use it with an AC charger; an adapter intended for Supercharging is not a general-purpose connector for every charger type. Rivian’s Gear Shop listed it at $200 when accessed in 2026; price and availability can change.

How to connect the adapter

  1. Check the adapter before use. Do not use it if it is damaged.
  2. Connect the Supercharger’s NACS plug to the NACS side of the Rivian adapter.
  3. Insert the adapter into the Rivian’s CCS1 charge port.
  4. Follow the vehicle’s charging prompts; Rivian’s guide says charging starts automatically.
  5. When charging is complete, end the session before removing the plug and adapter.

Rivian also warns that damage caused by unauthorized or incompatible adapters is not covered by its New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Rivian NACS DC Adapter Guide

Check the station before you go

Compatibility is not guaranteed at every Tesla site or stall. Rivian says access and compatibility can vary by station, vehicle configuration, and network availability. Check Rivian’s current charging information and the station’s details for your route before setting out. Rivian charging information Rivian R2: Fast Charging

For 2026-and-newer Rivians, a different adapter question may arise at CCS fast chargers: those vehicles have NACS ports and may need a CCS1 DC adapter for that separate connection. That is not the adapter used by 2022–2025 CCS1 vehicles at Tesla Superchargers.

What this guide does not establish

Rivian’s published information establishes compatibility at eligible Supercharger sites, but not a universal guarantee for every vehicle configuration, stall, or location. It also does not establish a single payment or session-start procedure, charging-session price, or station-by-station eligibility list that applies in all cases. Check current station details for the location you plan to use.
