Valeo’s Hybrid4All was a proposed 48-volt mild-hybrid system for automakers to integrate into conventional gasoline or diesel cars. It was not presented as a do-it-yourself or aftermarket conversion kit for an owner’s existing car. The system was designed to assist the engine and recover energy while slowing down; it was not described as allowing electric-only driving.
What was Valeo Hybrid4All?
Hybrid4All was an OEM-oriented architecture: a system intended for vehicle manufacturers to incorporate into new or redesigned powertrains. A compact motor-generator connected to a 48V electrical system would work alongside the combustion engine. Its proposed functions combined enhanced stop-start, regenerative braking and torque assistance.

In a 2012 report, Valeo presented 48V as a way to bring some hybrid functions to smaller, less expensive cars without using the higher-voltage architecture associated with more capable hybrids. That describes the concept’s intended positioning, not a verified cost comparison or a current product specification.

During deceleration, the motor-generator could recover some energy that would otherwise be lost as heat through braking. The system could then use stored electrical energy to help the engine provide torque during acceleration. Enhanced stop-start was another stated function.

Valeo described multiple possible motor-generator locations, depending on the vehicle’s drivetrain packaging:
- On the accessory drive belt.
- After the gearbox.
- Between the engine and gearbox.
These were alternative packaging arrangements in the proposed architecture, not locations an owner can select for a universal retrofit. The reports do not specify a single configuration for every vehicle.
Can you retrofit Hybrid4All to your car?
The available 2012 coverage describes a system for automaker integration; it does not identify a retail conversion kit, supported vehicle list, installation procedure, price or certification path for converting an existing car. It therefore does not establish that a driver can buy Hybrid4All and make a conventional car a hybrid.

The reports name no consumer-ready Valeo product or approved retrofit program. Do not treat a generic 48V battery or alternator as a substitute for a vehicle-specific hybrid system.
What fuel and emissions savings did Valeo claim?
The numbers reported in 2012 were company claims, not independently validated results in the cited coverage.

These historical figures should not be read as a promise of savings for a particular car or driving pattern. The cited reports do not provide current validation, a standardized test cycle or enough test detail to compare the figures directly with present-day vehicles.

Which cars and launch date did the 2012 report mention?
The 2012 coverage said Hybrid4All was intended for small cars including the Renault Twingo, Renault Clio and Opel Corsa. It also said equipped cars were expected to be available in 2017. An announced expectation is not evidence that those models entered production with the system, and the cited sources do not establish the concept’s current production or availability status.

Hybrid4All is useful to understand as a historical example of a proposed 48V mild-hybrid approach: an electric motor assists the combustion engine, captures energy during deceleration and supports stop-start operation. The 2012 reports do not show that it became an owner-installable conversion, confirm production in the named cars, or establish that its claimed savings were independently achieved.
