BMW says the upcoming U.S. BMW i3 50 xDrive Sedan has a preliminary estimated range of 446–468 miles on a full charge. The 468-mile figure is the top of that estimate—not a guaranteed real-world result or a final EPA-certified rating. BMW separately lists up to 440 miles for the i3 Sedan, so the higher number should be tied specifically to the 50 xDrive FAQ estimate.
What the 468-mile BMW i3 estimate means
BMW USA’s FAQ says that, fully charged, the i3 50 xDrive Sedan offers an estimated range of 446–468 miles. BMW says this estimate is based on preliminary BMW AG tests using EPA testing procedures and cautions that some new electric vehicles may not yet be EPA certified. Treat 468 miles as the upper end of a manufacturer estimate, not a confirmed EPA rating or a promise that every driver will travel that far.

BMW’s broader U.S. overview describes the fully electric i3 Sedan as having an estimated range of up to 440 miles. These are differently scoped BMW statements: the 446–468-mile figure is specifically for the 50 xDrive Sedan in the FAQ, while the overview gives an up-to figure for the i3 Sedan. Why your actual range may differ
The range estimate describes a fully charged vehicle. BMW lists several factors that can affect the distance an i3 travels: vehicle model, tire and wheel choice, driving style, accessories, traffic, outside temperature, and charging frequency. The estimate therefore should not be read as a fixed distance for every route or condition.

The available BMW material does not establish an independently tested real-world range for the new i3. Until a final rating and independent tests are available, buyers should regard the 468-mile figure as a preliminary manufacturer estimate rather than a result reproduced on public roads.
Why the UK i3 figure is higher
BMW UK advertises a range of 471–563 miles WLTP for the i3 50 xDrive First Edition. That is a different market, a specific First Edition, and a different test cycle from the U.S. preliminary estimate. When comparing range claims across cars or markets, check the exact model and drivetrain, the test cycle, whether the figure is preliminary or certified, and the wheel and tire configuration. Without those details, the headline numbers can give a misleading impression of which car will travel farther in everyday use.

BMW’s U.S. overview says the i3 uses 800-volt technology, supports DC charging at up to 400 kW, and offers bidirectional energy use. These are manufacturer specifications. A maximum charging-power figure is not, by itself, a charging-time guarantee: the source does not provide an independently measured charging curve or test result. BMW USA i3 Sedan overview

This is not the old BMW i3
The new i3 Sedan should not be confused with the earlier BMW i3, which BMW introduced in 2013. BMW’s original-model materials described 80–100 miles of everyday electric range and an optional gasoline range extender. A separate UK BMW release said the range-extender version could achieve around 180 miles of maximum day-to-day range on one tank, combining electric driving and fuel; that was not a single-charge electric range. These figures are historical context, not specifications for the 2027 sedan.
