Is Nissan’s upcoming e-POWER Rogue officially rated at 50 mpg, or has it been independently tested? Neither is established by the available information. Nissan’s prominent “50%” figure describes engine thermal efficiency—not miles per gallon—and the company has not published a U.S. EPA rating for the future Rogue e-POWER. Nissan has scheduled the next-generation system for the next Rogue in the U.S. and Canada in FY26; that is a forward-looking schedule, not a confirmed on-sale date.
“Testing” also needs qualification: Nissan has reported a fuel-consumption result for a Qashqai e-POWER in Tasmania, but that company-reported trip is not an independent road test or a result for the U.S. Rogue. Here’s what the system does, what the figures show, and what a valid mpg comparison will require.
What is Nissan e-POWER, and how does it drive the crossover?
Nissan describes e-POWER as a hybrid system in which a gasoline engine generates electricity while an electric motor drives the wheels. In the company’s words, “e-POWER is Nissan’s unique electric-drive hybrid powertrain that integrates an electric motor with a gasoline engine.” Nissan also says the system is “100% driven by a high-output motor,” providing an EV-like driving experience with an onboard gasoline engine to generate energy for the battery. Those are Nissan’s descriptions of the technology, not independent assessments of its performance.
For its third-generation system, Nissan describes a purpose-built generator engine and a 5-in-1 electric unit combining the motor, reducer, inverter, increaser and generator. That layout explains how the vehicle can be propelled by an electric motor while carrying a gasoline engine. It does not, by itself, establish fuel economy. Nissan says the new system is designed to improve fuel economy and quietness over prior e-POWER applications; that is a manufacturer claim, not a measured result for the upcoming Rogue.

What does Nissan’s “50%” figure mean?
The 50% figure refers to the thermal efficiency of the dedicated electricity-generating engine, according to Nissan’s technical overview, marked as of September 2026 and accessed October 4, 2026. Thermal efficiency describes the share of fuel energy converted into useful power. It is not a claim that the vehicle travels 50 miles on a gallon of gasoline, and it cannot be treated as an mpg rating.
Nissan’s investor presentation in 2024 projected a 15% improvement in high-speed fuel efficiency for third-generation e-POWER compared with second-generation e-POWER, targeting overseas markets where long-distance driving is common. That is a manufacturer projection against a specified previous generation—not an EPA estimate, a guaranteed improvement in every driving situation, or evidence that a Rogue achieved 50 mpg.

Has the new e-POWER Rogue been tested or rated at 50 mpg?
No official 50-mpg rating or independent test result for the future U.S. Rogue e-POWER is established in the available published information. Nissan’s English-language company story says third-generation e-POWER is scheduled for FY26 in the next-generation Rogue for the U.S. and Canada. That schedule does not specify an exact sale date, final specifications, trims, pricing or EPA fuel economy.
Nissan did report that a Qashqai e-POWER traveled more than 1,300 km in Tasmania without refuelling and averaged 4.5 L/100 km. The company story, dated May 27, 2026, describes a Nissan-reported trip result. It is not an EPA label figure, an independent test, or a result for the U.S. Rogue. A single trip result also should not be presented as a promise of what drivers will achieve in different conditions.

What current Rogue fuel-economy figures can—and can’t—tell you
Nissan’s 2026 U.S. specifications list the S and SV front-wheel-drive Rogue at 29 mpg city, 36 highway and 32 combined. Other trims and drivetrains differ. Nissan separately lists the 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid at 25 mpg city, 27 highway and 26 combined, plus 64 MPGe combined and 38 miles of all-electric range. These figures belong to different, currently specified configurations; neither is a rating for the future e-POWER Rogue.
| Vehicle/configuration | City | Highway | Combined | Other listed figure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Rogue S/SV FWD | 29 mpg | 36 mpg | 32 mpg | Other trims and drivetrains vary |
| 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid | 25 mpg | 27 mpg | 26 mpg | 64 MPGe combined; 38 miles electric range |
| Future next-generation Rogue e-POWER | Not stated by Nissan | Not stated by Nissan | Not stated by Nissan | Final U.S. EPA rating not established |
The figures for the two 2026 vehicles are Nissan USA specifications accessed October 4, 2026. The plug-in hybrid’s MPGe and electric range are separate measures from gasoline mpg. Treat neither current model as a substitute for an e-POWER rating.

How to judge an eventual mpg claim
EPA window-sticker fuel-economy values are estimates intended to represent average drivers and conditions nationwide and to help shoppers compare vehicles. Automakers submit fuel-economy data under defined test procedures, and EPA confirms some results. An EPA label is therefore a standardized estimate, not a guarantee of an individual driver’s consumption.
When Nissan publishes a U.S. rating for the e-POWER Rogue, compare EPA city, highway and combined mpg for the same model year and drivetrain, distinguishing front-wheel drive from all-wheel drive where applicable. Keep that rating separate from manufacturer projections and real-world trip results. For a road-test number to be meaningful, the route, weather, speed, vehicle load and measurement method also matter. Nissan’s history of revising labels for some vehicles after identifying discrepancies is a reminder to check the vehicle-specific official rating rather than infer mpg from a corporate technical claim.
