Forge Nano’s Atomic Armor coating has improved cycle-life results in specific battery-cell tests, but the available evidence does not show that it extends the life of a complete electric-vehicle battery pack in everyday driving. The technology is applied to battery materials during manufacturing—not added to a car already on the road—and no consumer retrofit or passenger EV using the coating is identified in the sources cited here.
What Forge Nano’s Atomic Armor coating is
Atomic Armor is Forge Nano’s platform for applying ultra-thin coatings to battery active materials, including cathode and anode powders, using atomic layer deposition (ALD). It is an industrial materials and manufacturing process, not a liquid additive for an assembled battery. Forge Nano describes the approach on its Batteries page and in an archived ALD for Batteries overview.
A battery’s electrodes repeatedly interact with its electrolyte as the cell charges and discharges. Forge Nano’s premise is that unwanted reactions and physical damage at these interfaces contribute to capacity loss and rising electrical resistance. Coating particle surfaces is intended to stabilize those interfaces and limit processes such as electrolyte side reactions, gas generation, transition-metal dissolution, and damage from repeated expansion and contraction. A U.S. Small Business Innovation Research award description similarly presents nanometer-thick coatings as a way to improve wetting, reduce side reactions, and mitigate resistance rise during extended cycling: SBIR award 215662.
What the cycle-life results show
Cycle-life results are meaningful only in the context of the cell chemistry, test setup, and definition of end of life. Forge Nano’s archived page reports these comparative examples:

|---|---|---|---|
| Cycles to the reported endpoint | 900 cycles | 1,450 cycles | NMC/graphite full cell; 3–4.2 V; 0.5C/1C. Forge Nano’s archived example; endpoint details are not stated on the cited page. |
| Capacity retention after 1,000 cycles | 80% | 85% | NMC811/graphite; 4C/1C. Forge Nano’s archived example. |
| Cycles in the reported comparison | 290 cycles | 540 cycles | Si-C/NMC811; cycling at 4.4 V. Forge Nano’s archived example; endpoint details are not stated on the cited page. |
These figures are examples reported by Forge Nano, not universal results for all chemistries or vehicle batteries. The archived page also lists other performance changes, but its cited material does not establish full test methods or independent replication for those examples.
A separate Department of Energy example
A 2017 U.S. Department of Energy report describes third-party data showing a 40% lifetime increase for a specific 2 Ah NMC811/graphite cell example. That is evidence about that cell configuration, not a prediction that an EV pack will last 40% longer. See the DOE’s 2016 U.S. DRIVE Highlight, published in 2017.

Compatible with Flooded, AGM, GEL, and EFB batteries. Not for lithium batteries, non-12V batteries (6V/8V/24V), or motorcycles below 30Ah. For 6V testing, choose BA101 Plus. For 24V testing, choose BA101 PRO
Why cell results do not establish longer life for an EV
A cell-level cycle test is not the same as measuring how long a complete vehicle pack remains useful. An EV pack contains many cells and supporting systems; its service life depends on more than the surface chemistry addressed by a coating. The cited results do not establish a real-world extension of whole-pack calendar life, a production-vehicle outcome, or performance across different charging habits, climates, pack designs, and operating conditions.
When assessing a coating claim, look for the exact electrode chemistry and material coated; whether testing used a full cell, half-cell, or material sample; voltage and charge/discharge rates; cell capacity and format; and the cycle-life endpoint or capacity-retention threshold. Also check for trade-offs in energy density, charging rate, heat, or safety, independent replication, and—ultimately—results from a production pack or vehicle. Without those details, a headline cycle count cannot be translated directly into years of EV ownership.

How to read Forge Nano’s claims
Forge Nano presents Atomic Armor as a way to stabilize high-performance battery materials. Its chief technology officer, James Trevey, said: “Forge Battery delivers the world’s most durable high-energy cells. By integrating Atomic Armor™ at the particle level, we neutralize the chemical instability of high-nickel chemistries, unlocking performance that Tier-1 incumbents cannot match.” This is a company executive’s claim, not independent comparative validation of vehicle-level durability.
The strongest supported conclusion is narrower: coating battery materials may improve cycling performance in particular cell configurations, and the cited DOE report describes a third-party lifetime result for one specific cell example. Whether those gains translate to longer-lasting EV packs depends on validation at pack and vehicle scale.
