The Maverick is not electric. BRP said the Outlander Electric makes 47 hp and 53 lb-ft, can travel up to 50 miles in optimal conditions, and can charge from 20% to 80% in 50 minutes with a Level 2 charger. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
What Can-Am announced
BRP’s August 17, 2025 release covered several products for the 2026 off-road lineup. Its two headline vehicles are different categories: the Outlander Electric is an ATV, while the Maverick R X rc is a performance side-by-side (SSV). The same announcement also named an Outlander MAX 6×6 and semi-active Smart-Shox suspension on selected Outlander XT-P and MAX Limited packages.
BRP described the Outlander Electric as its first full-size production electric ATV. Director of Global Marketing, Can-Am Off-Road Julie Tourville said, “Innovation is at the core of Can-Am’s DNA,” in the announcement. The company’s language about the Maverick as the “new king of the rocks” is promotional positioning, not an independent assessment.
Outlander Electric: range, charging and capability
BRP said the 2026 Outlander Electric uses its Rotax E-Power system and produces 47 hp and 53 lb-ft. The company claimed up to 50 miles of range in optimal conditions, 1,830 lb of towing capacity, and a 20%–80% charge in 50 minutes with a Level 2 charger. These are manufacturer figures; the release does not establish real-world range across different terrain, loads, temperatures or riding styles. Read BRP’s 2025 launch announcement.

Can-Am’s current U.S. product listing, which is for model year 2027 rather than the 2026 launch, also gives an 8.9 kWh battery, up to 50 miles of range and a 20%–80% charge in as little as 50 minutes. Confirm charger requirements and expected range for your riding conditions with a dealer before relying on those figures for a specific trip. See the current U.S. Outlander Electric listing.
Maverick R X rc: a gasoline side-by-side
The Maverick R X rc is not an electric ATV. It is a separate SSV with a turbocharged gasoline engine. Can-Am/BRP’s 2026 Australia/New Zealand specification sheet lists a 240 hp, 999 cc turbocharged three-cylinder Rotax engine and a seven-speed Rotax DCT transmission with high and extra-low range. The sheet also lists selectable drive modes and rock-oriented equipment including Smart-Lok. These specifications describe the ANZ-market document and should not be assumed to define every regional configuration; the sheet notes that equipment may vary and specifications can change. These are not direct performance substitutes: one is an electric utility ATV and the other a high-power SSV. The available manufacturer materials do not provide comparable independent tests or real-world range testing. Passenger configuration, local equipment, dealer support and the task you need the vehicle to perform are better starting points than comparing horsepower alone.

The current U.S. standard-model page lists a five-year battery warranty subject to a 12,427-mile/20,000-km limit, plus a one-year motor warranty and one-year BRP limited vehicle warranty. Warranty eligibility and terms can depend on the precise model and location, so confirm them with a local dealer before purchase.

- Match the vehicle to the job: consider whether you need a utility ATV or a side-by-side built for performance and rocky terrain.
- Plan for energy: for the electric Outlander, ask a dealer about Level 2 charging, charging access and range under your expected load and terrain.
- Confirm the exact regional model: equipment and specifications can vary by market; do not assume the ANZ Maverick sheet describes a U.S. or other regional vehicle.
- Get local costs and terms: request a location-specific price including transport and preparation, and verify warranty coverage for the exact model.
- Follow safety guidance: the Maverick specification sheet directs users to read the side-by-side operator’s guide, watch the safety DVD and wear a helmet.
