For the 2026 model year, the Corvette Stingray uses the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8, while the Z06 uses the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8. The LT2 is the larger-displacement engine; the LT6 makes more published horsepower and is built to rev higher. Model year matters: the 2027 Stingray switches to the 6.7-liter LS6, while the 2027 Z06 continues with the LT6.

The current US output figures are from Chevrolet’s 2026 Corvette comparison page, and the Z06 engine and redline specifications are from its 2026 Z06 page. Chevrolet’s detailed LT2 mechanical specifications cited here come from an October 2021 technical sheet for European Stingray versions, not a current US specification sheet.
What makes the LT2 and LT6 different?
LT2: larger displacement and Stingray duty
The LT2 is the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 fitted to the 2026 Stingray. Its standard published output is 490 hp and 465 lb-ft. Chevrolet lists 495 hp and 470 lb-ft when the optional Z51 performance exhaust is fitted; those higher figures are tied to that equipment, not every Stingray.
Chevrolet’s October 2021 European Stingray technical sheet gives more mechanical detail for that market and date: 6,162 cc displacement, overhead-valve construction, two valves per cylinder, dual-equal variable valve timing, direct injection with Active Fuel Management, an 11.5:1 compression ratio, dry-sump-type oiling, 613 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, and a 6,600-rpm maximum engine speed. These detailed values describe the European versions covered by that sheet and should not be read as a current US specification.

LT6: a smaller, higher-revving Z06 engine
The LT6 is a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. Chevrolet lists 670 hp and an 8,600-rpm redline for the 2026 Z06. GM describes it as a high-revving, track-focused engine, and says the Z06 was developed alongside the GT3.R race car.
In a June 2026 GM News interview, engineer Dustin Gardner said the team wanted a flat-plane V8 that could approach 9,000 rpm and arrived at an 8,600-rpm redline. Gardner called it the highest-revving small-block GM had made, highlighting its naturally aspirated design, high engine speed, and flat-plane crank. Those are an engineer’s descriptions of the design intent, not independent comparative test findings.

Which Corvette has the LT6?
In the 2026 lineup, the LT6 belongs to the Corvette Z06. The Stingray uses the LT2. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission in Chevrolet’s published specifications.
Is the LT6 better than the LT2?
Neither is universally better; they serve different Corvette roles. The LT2 has greater displacement and is the Stingray’s performance-and-everyday-use engine. The LT6 produces higher published horsepower and is designed for much higher engine speed in the track-focused Z06.

Horsepower and engine design alone do not establish which car will accelerate faster or post a quicker lap. Tires, gearing, cooling, aerodynamics, suspension, and track conditions also affect those results. The available manufacturer specifications do not provide an independently measured head-to-head comparison of fuel economy, reliability, service cost, or lap times.

No. GM’s June 2026 engine overview says the 2027 Stingray moves to the new 6.7-liter LS6. The 2027 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X also debut with the LS6, while the 2027 Z06 retains the LT6. GM lists the 2027 Z06 LT6 at 670 hp and 460 lb-ft, so do not carry the 2026 Stingray’s LT2 description forward to the 2027 model year.
