BYD says its track-focused Yangwang U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg on 14 September 2025, and later reported a 6-minute, 59.157-second Nürburgring Nordschleife lap. Those are manufacturer-reported results, not independent head-to-head proof that the car beats every electric supercar. The Xtreme is a distinct, limited-run U9 variant, not the earlier U9 Track Edition.
How fast is the Yangwang U9 Xtreme?
BYD reports a top speed of 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) for the U9 Xtreme, achieved at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg on 14 September 2025. The figure is BYD’s claim; the cited announcement does not establish independent verification. BYD’s announcement calls it a new world record.
The U9 Xtreme also has a reported Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time: 6m59.157sec over the 20.832km circuit on 22 August 2025. BYD announced that result separately. Its Nürburgring announcement describes the car and the circuit-specific result.
How much power does the U9 Xtreme make?
BYD says its four motors produce more than 3000PS combined. PS is the unit used in the manufacturer’s announcement; it should not be silently relabeled as a precisely equivalent horsepower figure. For context, BYD’s earlier U9 Track Edition release specifies 555kW per motor and more than 3000PS combined, but that is a separate variant and announcement. BYD’s Track Edition release gives those motor figures.

U9 Xtreme and U9 Track Edition: two different speed claims

Both are BYD-reported figures. The Track Edition result came first; the later Xtreme result should not be described as the same car making a second attempt. Nor does a higher top speed alone settle every comparison: a track lap, production status and the precise test conditions answer different questions.

For the Nürburgring car, BYD additionally lists a redesigned cooling system, a titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking system and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tyres jointly developed with Giti. The announcement describes a bespoke collaboration; it does not establish that these tyres are generally available to consumers.
Does this mean the U9 is the fastest electric car?
It supports a narrower statement: BYD says the U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h at Papenburg, and says it set the stated Nürburgring lap time. The available announcements do not provide independent adjudication or comparable test data for every electric supercar, so they cannot by themselves establish an across-the-board verdict.

A fair comparison needs to match the variant and configuration, venue and date, metric (top speed or lap time), measurement basis and production status. A manufacturer’s record announcement is useful evidence of what the maker claims, but it is not a substitute for independently verified, like-for-like testing.
