Short answer: European BYD Tang EVs generally support Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, USB connectivity, 4G and the “Hi, BYD” voice assistant. The exact functions you see depend on country, language, trim, model year and multimedia software. Use a certified data cable for reliable wired projection, check your installed build at System settings → Version → Show information, and use the manual for your exact Tang when profiles or voice commands do not match the menus shown in another market.
What the BYD Tang infotainment system includes
Current European Tang specifications describe a large 15.6-inch rotating central display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, USB ports, 4G connectivity and intelligent voice control activated by the wake phrase “Hi, BYD.” The public Tang description also calls the voice system an “advanced 4-zone intelligent voice interaction” feature. Those labels describe the platform, not a guarantee that every function is enabled in every country.

A Tang in one European market can therefore show different projection icons, assistant languages or update timing from an otherwise similar car elsewhere. How to connect Android Auto or Apple CarPlay
Start with the vehicle stationary in Park and the phone unlocked. Projection setup is easiest after you have confirmed that the phone, cable and USB socket can exchange data.

Wired Android Auto or CarPlay
- Put the Tang in Park and unlock your phone.
- Find a USB socket designated for data. Not every USB port necessarily supports projection.
- Connect the phone with a certified USB data cable whose connector matches the phone. A USB-C lead supplied only for charging may power the phone but will not transfer Android Auto or CarPlay data.
- Accept the permissions and pairing prompts on the phone and the Tang display.
- Open the Android Auto or CarPlay icon when it appears. If the icon is not shown, disconnect and try the other data-capable socket before changing settings.
A short, undamaged cable that is certified for data is usually the most dependable first test. Keep a second known-good cable available before blaming the car’s software.
Wireless Android Auto
BYD specifies a compatible Android phone, Android 8 or newer, an active mobile-data plan and the Android Auto app for wireless use. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone, start the Tang’s pairing flow and follow the prompts on both screens. Wireless projection uses the phone’s network connection for online services, so a data plan is part of the requirement rather than an optional extra.
Apple CarPlay
When CarPlay is enabled for your market, select the CarPlay icon and complete the pairing prompts shown on the iPhone and vehicle. Apple and Google service availability is country dependent; a vehicle specification that lists both systems does not override local activation rules.

Why the Tang does not see your phone
Use this sequence instead of repeatedly reconnecting the same setup:
- Confirm the car is in Park and the phone is unlocked.
- For a wired connection, replace the cable with a certified data cable and try the Tang’s other data-capable USB port. Charging current alone is not evidence that the cable supports projection.
- For wireless Android Auto, confirm Android 8 or newer, the Android Auto app, an active data plan, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
- Delete an old Bluetooth or projection pairing on both devices, then pair again from the vehicle’s on-screen flow.
- Reset the phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections if pairing remains stuck, restart the phone, and restart the infotainment system.
- Check the multimedia build under System settings → Version → Show information before escalating. A software update can change projection stability or menu behavior.
Aftermarket wireless adapters are not guaranteed to work on every Tang software build, so test the vehicle with a direct wired connection before buying an adapter. If a known-good cable, second data port and restarted phone still fail, record the exact error and multimedia version for an authorised BYD dealer.
How to check and update Tang infotainment software
Record the installed version
Open System settings → Version → Show information. Photograph or write down the multimedia version, vehicle model year and market. This information lets a dealer determine whether a reported feature or update applies to your car.

Understand OTA delivery
BYD says most multimedia updates are delivered over the air, but some releases require workshop installation. OTA distribution is progressive, so two otherwise identical cars may not receive the same release on the same day. Wi-Fi availability, country eligibility, model year and staged rollout status all affect what appears on the update screen.

BYD Austria’s notice dated 20 March 2026 independently describes V2.0.0 as improving radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto stability and usability. That confirms the release’s projection focus, while the Danish notice supplies the build number and additional feature details.

If an update is missing
- Check that the selected country or market matches the vehicle’s registration and software region.
- Compare the model year and exact Tang variant with the eligibility shown in the update notice.
- Connect the car to a reliable network; V2.1.0 specifically adds Wi-Fi OTA downloads, but network access is still required for an OTA transfer.
- Allow for staged rollout: a later delivery to your car does not necessarily indicate a fault.
- If the vehicle says a workshop is required, or the update remains unavailable after eligibility checks, contact an authorised BYD dealer rather than attempting an unofficial firmware installation.
Can you create separate driver profiles?
Public Tang material does not provide one complete, universal profile-management menu or a single command sequence that applies to every model year and market. The screen labels can change with the multimedia build, and a path shown for a Tang 2021 may not match a later European car.
For the correct procedure, identify the model year, country and multimedia version from System settings → Version → Show information, then open the exact Tang or Tang 2021 owner’s manual for that vehicle. If the manual and screen disagree, ask a BYD dealer to confirm whether profile functions are enabled for your market and trim. Do not assume that a profile menu documented for another region will exist in your car.
When a profile option is present, configure it while the car is stationary and check which settings it actually stores. Infotainment preferences, phone pairings, seat or mirror memory and vehicle-access settings are not automatically the same feature; the manual should identify the settings associated with each profile.

What can you say to the BYD voice assistant?
The documented wake phrase is “Hi, BYD.” European material describes the system as intelligent voice control with four-zone interaction, but the public sources do not publish a complete, universal command list. Language support and command scope can change through OTA software. For example, the Danish V2.0.0 release adds Danish to the BYD Assistant and records voice-related software changes.
To use it, say “Hi, BYD” in a supported language and wait for the listening indicator before speaking. The available actions are those exposed by your market’s assistant and current build; an instruction accepted in one language or release may be rejected in another. If the assistant does not respond, verify the selected language, check for an available multimedia update, speak after the listening prompt and make sure the microphone is not muted by a privacy setting.
Because BYD has not published one command list for all Tang variants, the exact model-year manual and the on-screen assistant help are the authoritative references for your car. A dealer can confirm whether a requested voice function is supported instead of merely absent from the current menu.

The Tang gives you two overlapping ways to reach navigation, media and online services. Choosing deliberately avoids confusing a phone, account or regional activation issue with a vehicle fault.

Use a wired connection when you need the clearest fault diagnosis. Try wireless after the phone and vehicle have paired successfully. Use the built-in system when your phone is unavailable or when a regional service is enabled only in BYD’s own interface.
A practical checklist before contacting support
- Vehicle stationary in Park and phone unlocked.
- Phone operating-system and app requirements checked, including Android 8 or newer for wireless Android Auto.
- Active mobile-data plan available for wireless Android Auto.
- Certified data cable tested, with the phone connector fitted correctly.
- More than one Tang USB port tested when available.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi reset, followed by phone and infotainment restart.
- Multimedia version recorded from System settings → Version → Show information.
- Country, model year, trim and selected assistant language noted.
- Dealer contacted for workshop-only updates, unavailable regional features or a profile menu that does not match the manual.
These details let support separate a cable or pairing problem from a market entitlement, staged OTA rollout or workshop-only installation.
