If you are shopping for a BYD Seagull-sized electric car in Europe, start with the exact market version rather than the name. BYD’s European model is announced as the Dolphin Surf; the Seagull name, equipment, battery and price can differ in other countries. In the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO) database accessed in 2026, the most affordable listed alternatives are the Dacia Spring Electric 70, Leapmotor T03, Renault Twingo E-Tech, Geely E2 and BYD Dolphin Surf. Their indicative entry prices run from about €18,400 to €23,000, with listed ranges from 165 to 225 km.
Those figures are a shortlist, not a quotation. Your final choice depends on the country, trim, taxes, incentives, charging equipment, delivery date and local support. Use the comparison below to identify the right type of car, then verify the exact specification with a local dealer or importer.

What counts as a BYD Seagull alternative?
The Seagull is a small, relatively affordable electric hatchback sold under different names and specifications in export markets. A European buyer should therefore compare cars by mission and local specification, not assume that a Seagull brochure from another country applies at home. BYD announced the Dolphin Surf for European customers in May 2025, making it the closest European nameplate relative, but it is still a regional model with its own trims and equipment.

For a useful comparison, check five things together: the on-road price of the orderable trim, usable range for your weather and roads, charging capability, cabin and cargo practicality, and the support available in your country. EAFO provides a consistent starting table, while ADAC’s work shows why a database range and a short test drive cannot answer every ownership question.

EAFO snapshot: the cheapest listed European variants
The following entries are from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory model database as accessed in 2026. Prices are approximate database values, not guaranteed transaction prices. Range and battery are model/version entries. EAFO reports “fast-charge speed” as kilometres of range added per hour, not charging power in kW.
| Model and listed variant | Approx. price | Listed range | Battery | Consumption | EAFO fast-charge speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dacia Spring Electric 70 | €18,400 | 165 km | 24.0 kWh | 15 kWh/100 km | 230 km/h of range added |
| Leapmotor T03 | €19,400 | 225 km | 36.0 kWh | 16 kWh/100 km | 170 km/h of range added |
| Renault Twingo E-Tech, 27.5 kWh | €20,500 | 185 km | 27.5 kWh | 15 kWh/100 km | 250 km/h of range added |
| Geely E2, 35 kWh | €21,500 | 215 km | 35.4 kWh | 16 kWh/100 km | 250 km/h of range added |
| BYD Dolphin Surf Active, 30 kWh | €23,000 | 190 km | 30.0 kWh | 16 kWh/100 km | 270 km/h of range added |
These rows span about €4,600 in indicative entry price and 60 km in listed range. They are not a like-for-like independent test: equipment, test cycle, taxes and market availability can differ. Confirm the local trim and standards before treating one number as an advantage.
Longer-range versions when the entry cars are too limited
Paying more can buy a materially larger battery and a longer listed range. EAFO also lists the following versions:

| Geely E2, 47 kWh | €24,700 | 280 km | 47.1 kWh |
| BYD Dolphin Surf Boost | €26,000 | 270 km | 43.2 kWh |
| Citroën ë-C3 Standard Range | €24,100 | 255 km | Not stated in the cited EAFO summary |
| Hyundai Inster Long Range | €28,000 | 300 km | Not stated in the cited EAFO summary |
The larger-battery Geely E2 and the Dolphin Surf Boost illustrate the basic trade-off: more range is associated with a higher indicative price. The ë-C3 and Inster are stretch alternatives if range or a different body and feature mix matters more than the lowest possible entry price. They are different versions and equipment levels, so compare the precise trim sold in your country.
Which alternative fits your use?
Dacia Spring: the lowest-cost urban specialist
The Spring Electric 70 is the lowest-priced entry in the EAFO snapshot at approximately €18,400. Its 24.0 kWh battery and 165 km listed range point to urban driving, commuting and short, predictable trips rather than frequent long-distance travel. That small battery can also make the car easier to charge at home, but the relevant question is whether 165 km on the stated cycle leaves enough reserve in your winter and motorway routine.

Dacia says more than 210,000 Springs had been sold in over forty countries since 2021. That is the manufacturer’s cumulative statement, not an independent reliability, resale or market-share measure. In its 8 September 2026 media release, Dacia wrote: “With this second-generation Spring, Dacia is continuing the success story of a model sold in over 210,000 units in more than forty countries since 2021, giving many customers access to electric mobility for the first time.”
Choose the Spring when purchase price and a small-city footprint dominate. Reject it if your normal journeys require a generous buffer beyond the database range or if you regularly carry several adults and luggage; the cited sources do not establish a directly comparable cabin or cargo result, so inspect one in person.
Leapmotor T03: the strongest entry-range figure
At approximately €19,400, the T03 combines the lowest-price group with the longest listed range in the first EAFO table: 225 km from a 36.0 kWh battery. Its 16 kWh/100 km consumption entry is not directly comparable with a real-world test, but the battery-and-range pairing makes it attractive for a driver who wants more buffer without moving to the larger, more expensive versions.
ADAC’s comparison identifies compromises in everyday practicality for the tested T03. That finding applies to the vehicle and version examined, not automatically to every country’s trim. Sit in the rear seats, check the boot with your normal bags and try the driving position before ordering. The database price and range are a reason to investigate the T03, not a substitute for that inspection.
Renault Twingo E-Tech: city-car dimensions first
The 27.5 kWh Twingo E-Tech entry is listed at approximately €20,500, with 185 km of range and 15 kWh/100 km consumption. Its case is the compact urban footprint: manoeuvrability and parking convenience can matter more than winning the range table when most trips are short. Confirm the release timing and orderability for your country and the date you intend to buy, because the cited database entry does not guarantee local stock.

Geely E2: two battery choices make the trade-off visible
EAFO lists a 35.4 kWh Geely E2 at about €21,500 with 215 km of range, and a 47.1 kWh version at about €24,700 with 280 km. The two entries make the cost of additional range unusually clear: approximately €3,200 more in the database for 65 km of extra listed range and a substantially larger battery. They are separate versions, not a promise that both will be sold in your market.

BYD Dolphin Surf: the closest European BYD relative
The Dolphin Surf Active is listed at about €23,000 with a 30.0 kWh battery and 190 km of range. The Boost version is listed at about €26,000 with 43.2 kWh and 270 km. The two entries show why the European model should be treated as a range of trims rather than as one fixed “Seagull” specification.
Choose the Dolphin Surf when you want the BYD connection and a European-market model, but verify the exact Active or Boost equipment, charging hardware, warranty and delivery date. Do not transfer a Seagull price, safety package or battery specification from another region to a European order.
Hyundai Inster and Citroën ë-C3: stretch choices
The Inster Long Range appears in EAFO at approximately €28,000 with 300 km listed range. The ë-C3 Standard Range is listed at about €24,100 with 255 km. These cars move the decision away from the absolute lowest entry price and toward extra range or a different feature and body mix. The cited material does not provide a complete, identical-conditions practicality or charging comparison for them, so evaluate the local trims directly.

- Age and Weight Capacity: This children's car has a maximum weight capacity of 55Lbs, suitable for children from 3 to 5 years old, with excellent reliability of use
How much range do you really need?
Use the EAFO range as a common screening number, then create a personal buffer. List your normal daily kilometres, the longest routine trip, and whether you can charge at home or work. A 165 km entry may be adequate for a short, repeatable commute, while a 225 km or 270 km version may reduce charging stops for mixed use. That is a planning distinction, not a promise of those distances in every season.
ADAC warns that standardised range figures are attainable only in favourable conditions and that its measured ranges are usually lower. Cold weather, higher speeds, heating or air-conditioning, payload and driving style all reduce the distance available. Compare cars using the same test cycle and trim, and leave enough reserve to reach a reliable charger rather than planning to the last kilometre.
Charging: compare the hardware, not just the headline
First establish whether the local car has the connector and AC/DC capability you can use at home, work and on public routes. Then check the battery size and the actual charging power for that trim. EAFO’s fast-charge column is expressed as kilometres of range added per hour; it is not a kW rating and should not be converted into one.
A smaller battery can be convenient for routine home charging, while a larger battery may reduce charging frequency on longer trips. Neither is automatically better: the right choice depends on your parking, electricity access and journey pattern. Ask the dealer for the local charging specification in writing, including connector, AC limit, DC availability and any standard or optional cable.
Practicality and driving checks a spreadsheet cannot answer
The available sources do not provide a directly comparable luggage-volume or cabin-space table for every candidate. Make these checks during a physical inspection:
Best Value
- Power&Long-Lasting Play: Powered by a 12V 4.5Ah rechargeable battery, this ride on offers up to 80 minutes of continuous fun per full charge. Great for extended outdoor without frequent recharging.
- 8" Big Wheel: 8" tires glide smoothly over paved roads; Powerful high-speed motor ensures max speed of 1.5mph, a very safe and fun speed for toddlers.

- Put the driver’s seat in your normal position, then sit behind it and check knee, head and foot room.
- Load the bags, child seats, work equipment or mobility aids you actually carry; do not rely on exterior dimensions.
- Open every door in your usual parking space and check rear-seat access.
- Confirm payload and the number of usable seats on the local registration specification.
- Drive over your normal roads and try parking manoeuvres, junction visibility and low-speed control.
ADAC’s comparison includes manoeuvrability, braking and overtaking measurements. Those tests cover selected variants, not every car in this shortlist, but they demonstrate why a test drive can reveal information that price and range cannot.
Safety, warranty and ownership support
Compare the driver-assistance and safety equipment of the exact local trim; a model name does not guarantee identical equipment across countries. Ask for the warranty duration and mileage limits for the battery and whole vehicle, the servicing schedule, roadside assistance and the location of authorised repairers.
Country-specific service coverage, parts support and resale outlook were not established in the cited material. Treat them as purchase checks, especially for a newly launched or less-established model. Obtain written answers from the importer or dealer and confirm who handles warranty claims.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA step-by-step buying process
- Define the job. Record daily distance, longest regular journey, passengers, luggage and where you can charge.
- Set a local budget. Replace the EAFO indicative price with the dealer’s on-road price, including taxes, registration, delivery fees and currently open incentives.
- Shortlist by battery and range. Use the EAFO entries to decide whether the 165–225 km group is sufficient or whether a 255–300 km version is worth the extra cost.
- Verify the exact trim. Check battery, test-cycle range, connector, AC/DC charging, safety equipment and included cables for the car you can actually order.
- Test practical use. Inspect seating, boot loading, access and visibility, then drive in urban traffic and on the fastest road you regularly use.
- Check support. Confirm servicing location, warranty terms, parts process and delivery date in writing.
- Recalculate after incentives. Apply only incentives for which you are currently eligible; do not assume a national programme or expired offer still applies.
Bottom line: which cars deserve your first calls?
Start with the Dacia Spring if the lowest indicative price and urban use are the priority. Investigate the Leapmotor T03 if you want the longest listed range among the lower-price entries. Consider the Twingo E-Tech for a compact city-focused brief, and the Geely E2 when you want to choose between a 35.4 kWh and 47.1 kWh battery. The Dolphin Surf is the relevant European BYD alternative, but its Active and Boost versions must be checked as separate local products. Move to the ë-C3 or Inster Long Range when the extra listed range justifies a higher budget.
None of these database figures is a substitute for a current local quote and a test drive. The best BYD Seagull alternative is the car whose exact trim, charging setup, winter range buffer and service support fit your daily life in the country where you will register it.
