BYD opened pre-orders in China for its larger second-generation Seagull on October 9, 2026, but did not announce a price or an exact launch date. A report on China’s MIIT filing lists a longer, five-seat car with a 95 kW motor; its battery capacity and range have not been confirmed for this generation.
What BYD announced—and what pre-orders mean
BYD Ocean lineup sales division general manager Zhang Zhuo announced the pre-orders on Weibo, according to CnEVPost’s October 9, 2026 report, which also showed six exterior colors: green, pink, orange, blue, white and gray. The report says Zhang had indicated in an August interview that the new model would launch in 2026.

The announcement disclosed neither a pre-order price nor an exact launch date. These are reservations, not evidence of priced orders or customer deliveries. The next step is also uncertain: in China, blind pre-orders may be followed by indicative pre-sale prices or proceed directly to launch, the report notes.
How much does the new BYD Seagull cost?
No price for the second-generation Seagull was announced in the October 9 report. The “$10K EV” wording in the headline is a reference to the car’s popular positioning, not a confirmed price for this new generation.

For context only, CnEVPost reported that the preceding-generation 2026 Seagull in China had guide prices from 69,900 to 85,900 yuan, with LiDAR-equipped versions at 90,900 and 97,900 yuan. Those are predecessor prices, not a price list for the new car; BYD could price the new generation differently. See the October pre-order report and the May 2026 report on the preceding model.
Prices in other markets are not interchangeable
BYD Cars Philippines lists its market’s Seagull at PHP 968,000 and a 300 km NEDC range. The page warns that prices and specifications can change. This is a Philippines-market listing, not the announced price or range of the new China-market generation: BYD Cars Philippines’ Seagull page.

What the MIIT filing reports about size and equipment
CnEVPost’s report on the July 2026 China MIIT regulatory catalog filing lists two battery-electric variants, both with five seats and the same dimensions. The new body is 425 mm longer than its predecessor and has a wheelbase extended by 150 mm; the report says its footprint approaches that of the BYD Dolphin.

These figures are reported from the filing, not from an independent road test or a direct examination of the MIIT document. The report lists LiDAR, front radar, rear radar and side radar as optional equipment for one higher-weight variant; it does not establish that these sensors will be standard across the retail range. Cabin and cargo details reported at pre-order time
The October report also describes a steering-column gear selector, power-adjustable front seats, driver-seat massage, a 94-liter front trunk and up to 1,380 liters of rear cargo capacity with the rear seats folded. These are details attributed to that report; the July filing coverage does not establish all of them.
Battery capacity and range remain unconfirmed for the new generation
The October announcement did not provide a battery capacity or driving range for the second-generation Seagull. The preceding-generation 2026 China model was reported with 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh batteries and stated ranges of 305 km and 405 km, respectively. Those predecessor figures are not confirmed specifications for the new car and should not be projected onto it. CnEVPost’s figures appear in its May 2026 report.

When will the new Seagull launch, and will it be sold overseas?
The exact launch date was not disclosed in the October 9 announcement. CnEVPost reported that Zhang had previously said the model would launch in 2026, but the pre-order announcement did not pin down when. The reviewed reports also do not establish an overseas launch plan or market-specific specifications for the new generation.

CnEVPost’s compilation of company reports puts Seagull sales at 529,537 vehicles in 2025 and cumulative sales at about 1.55 million from the model’s April 2023 launch through September 2026. For January–September 2026, the compilation records 265,901 vehicles, down 33.22% year on year. It records 38,650 in September 2026, up 11.75% year on year and 7.05% month on month; the report says this was a second consecutive month of year-on-year growth. These are reported sales figures attributed to CnEVPost’s compilation, not independently verified delivery data.
