The original Bugatti Veyron 16.4 coupe paired a 1,001 PS quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder engine with a quoted 0–100 km/h time of 2.5 seconds. Bugatti’s aim was to exceed 400 km/h without giving up comfort and everyday usability. It is important to distinguish this 2005-era model from later Veyron versions, whose power and performance figures differ.
What the Veyron 16.4 was designed to do
Bugatti described four goals for the Veyron: deliver more than 1,000 PS, exceed 400 km/h, reach 100 km/h in under three seconds, and retain comfort and style suited to ordinary use. These were the maker’s design targets, not independent test findings. Bugatti also said the car could adjust its settings for high-speed straights, country roads, and city traffic. How the original differs from later Veyrons
The Veyron name covers multiple versions and body styles. Bugatti’s final-series material lists the original 1,001 PS Veyron 16.4 separately from the 1,200 PS Veyron Super Sport; the Grand Sport and Grand Sport Vitesse are also distinct models. Do not use a later version’s output, top-speed record, or performance figure as though it belongs to the original coupe. (Bugatti, 2015)
