The Bugatti Tourbillon is the Chiron’s successor and Bugatti’s new hybrid hyper sports car. Confirmed details include a Cosworth-engineered naturally aspirated V16, three electric motors, an 800V battery, a new carbon structure and a strictly limited 250-car production run. Several final road-car details—including homologation, acceleration and customer delivery schedules—remain unconfirmed.
What is the Bugatti Tourbillon?
Tourbillon is Bugatti’s next-generation hyper sports car, replacing the Chiron. Instead of extending the Chiron’s quad-turbo W16 formula, Bugatti developed a naturally aspirated V16 and added a high-output electric drive system. The car is being developed as a complete new program rather than a lightly revised Chiron.

The combustion engine was engineered with Cosworth. Bugatti combines it with two electric motors at the front and one at the rear, giving the Tourbillon all-wheel drive and electric torque distribution at both axles.
Powertrain and electric range
The 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16
The V16 displaces 8.3 liters and contributes a quoted 1,000 hp. Its stated redline is 9,000 rpm. Because it is naturally aspirated, the engine’s character and response are fundamentally different from the Chiron’s turbocharged W16, although Bugatti has not yet published every final engine specification.

Three electric motors and 800V hardware
The electric system contributes a quoted 800 hp: two motors drive the front wheels and a third motor drives the rear axle. The motors can spin to 24,000 rpm. Bugatti specifies four-wheel drive and full torque vectoring, allowing the control system to vary drive force between wheels.
Energy comes from a 25 kWh oil-cooled battery operating at 800 volts. Bugatti claims more than 60 km (37 miles) of electric-only driving. That is a manufacturer claim; the published material does not identify a final WLTP, EPA or other standardized test result.

Transmission, traction and braking
The powertrain uses a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The front and rear electric drive units provide four-wheel drive, while torque vectoring is intended to manage corner-exit traction and directional control.

Structure and suspension
Bugatti says the Tourbillon is built around a new T800 carbon-composite structure. The 25 kWh battery is integrated into the monocoque as a structural element rather than being treated solely as a separate pack.
Both axles use multi-link suspension. The design incorporates 3D-printed aluminum structural parts and an AI-developed, 3D-printed hollow airfoil rear arm. Bugatti says this approach reduces suspension weight by 45 percent compared with the Chiron. That is a component-level comparison supplied by Bugatti, not a claim that the complete Tourbillon is 45 percent lighter.
Paul Burnham, Bugatti’s chief vehicle engineer for the Tourbillon, described the program this way: “The Tourbillon is a completely new program; we started really from scratch. We are merging over a century of expertise in combustion-engine power, with state-of-the-art electric performance.”

Aerodynamics and development testing
Bugatti’s aerodynamic development began with computational-fluid-dynamics simulations. Engineers then built a half-scale wind-tunnel model from 250 individual 3D-printed components and fitted it with more than 100 pressure taps. The program subsequently moved to a full-size prototype in a wind tunnel.

Bugatti says the Tourbillon can reach its top speed with the rear wing retracted while remaining stable. This describes the aerodynamic strategy, not a confirmed top-speed number: no final speed or test protocol has been published in the cited material.
David Šoštarić, Bugatti Rimac’s head of aerodynamics, called the scale-model session “the first validation of the scale-model” and said it was the first test used to assess different design volumes and changes to the car.
Confirmed tire specification
The published bespoke tire specification is Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2:

These are the confirmed Tourbillon sizes in Bugatti’s published specification. Retail inventory, final road-legal fitment and replacement availability still need to be verified for the relevant market and vehicle.

Bugatti said prototypes entered testing ahead of customer deliveries planned for 2026. Rimac Technology separately repeated the 250-unit limit and 2026 delivery timing.
Bugatti’s model index, crawled in September 2026, still listed active Tourbillon development coverage covering the V16 sound, simulation, the new Molsheim manufacture, tire development, cold-weather testing, the interior concept and customer configuration. That indicates an ongoing development and configuration phase, but it does not establish individual customer allocations or a final delivery calendar.
What is not confirmed yet?
Bugatti’s February 2025 engineering release explicitly said type approval had not yet been granted. The available material therefore does not support describing the Tourbillon as fully homologated or already delivered.

The result is a change in engineering philosophy: the Tourbillon pairs high-revving combustion power with electric drive, structural battery integration and more extensive use of additive-manufactured suspension components.
