The 2025 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe is a five-seat, four-door performance sedan with all-wheel drive, a twin-turbo V8 and genuine long-distance practicality. It is exceptionally quick in character, expensive to run, and priced against high-end sports sedans rather than ordinary luxury cars. The key question is whether you value its blend of four-door usability and supercar-grade hardware enough to accept the cost and uncertain availability.

What the M8 Gran Coupe is
In the United States, “M8 Gran Coupe” refers to the M8 Competition Gran Coupe. It uses the four-door 8 Series body but receives BMW M’s highest-output V8 calibration, reinforced chassis systems and rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive. The result is a sedan that can carry four adults in a familiar luxury-car layout while retaining the hardware expected of a dedicated M car.

Engine, transmission and all-wheel-drive system
The 4.4-liter V8 uses BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology and sends its power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. M xDrive can vary the front-to-rear torque split, while an active M differential manages torque across the rear axle. That combination is intended to provide traction when launching and adjustability when driving quickly on a winding road.

Chassis and braking hardware
Adaptive M suspension is standard, allowing the damping response to be altered for a more controlled setting or a more compliant road setup. M compound brakes provide the thermal capacity expected of a heavy, high-output sedan. Standard 20-inch forged-alloy wheels use 275/35 tires at the front and wider 285/35 tires at the rear.
These components explain much of the car’s capability, but they also bring normal high-performance-car trade-offs: replacement tires are specialized, brake parts are costly, and ride comfort depends on wheel, tire and damper settings.

Fuel economy and everyday range
EPA ratings are 15 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined, using premium fuel. The 20.1-gallon tank reduces the need for frequent stops on highway trips, but fuel cost remains a meaningful part of ownership. Actual consumption will vary with traffic, weather, speed and how often the V8 is used at full load.
Size, seating and cargo space
At roughly 201 inches long, the M8 is a large sedan. Its 119.2-inch wheelbase creates a useful rear compartment for a performance car, and the cabin has five seating positions. Edmunds lists 15.5 cubic feet of trunk capacity—adequate for daily luggage, though less flexible than an SUV or hatchback.
The 4,480-pound curb weight is substantial. It contributes to a planted feel and the need for powerful brakes, while making the M8 less nimble in tight spaces than a smaller sports sedan.

Equipment and visual details
The defining visual and functional elements are the low four-door body, M-specific aerodynamic treatment, forged 20-inch wheels and mixed-width tires. Specification listings also identify available driver-assistance packages with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and traffic-jam assistance. Those features are package-dependent, so confirm the build sheet rather than assuming every advertised M8 has them.

Autoblog reported that 2025 is the final model year for the M8 Competition Gran Coupe. Production and remaining inventory can change by country and dealer, so verify current BMW and dealer listings before treating a car as orderable or assuming a particular color or option is still available.
Is the 2025 M8 Gran Coupe worth its price?
It makes the strongest case for itself when you need one vehicle to serve as a luxurious four-door commuter and a serious performance machine. The V8, adaptive suspension, M brakes, active differential and all-wheel-drive system are substantial mechanical equipment rather than appearance upgrades.
The value becomes harder to justify if you prioritize fuel economy, low running costs, maximum rear-seat space or easy maneuverability. A large curb weight, premium-fuel requirement, expensive consumables and a six-figure purchase price are permanent compromises, not occasional inconveniences. Buyers should also confirm warranty terms, dealer support and parts availability in their region before signing.
