Bugatti introduced Sur Mesure in 2021 and unveiled Solitaire in August 2025. Both programs are subject to what Bugatti’s design and engineering teams can develop and validate.
What is Bugatti Sur Mesure?
Bugatti translates Sur Mesure as “tailored.” Announced in December 2021, it formalized the marque’s customization work as an official program. Bugatti describes one-to-one support from its Sur Mesure team, spanning the first design concept, production and handover at Molsheim. Designers and engineers work with customers on customized designs, materials and finishes. Bugatti’s launch announcement gives paint, handcrafted interiors, embroidery and bodywork as examples of the program’s scope.
A customer’s story in the details
The first commission highlighted in the launch announcement was a Chiron Pur Sport inspired by racing driver Louis Chiron and his 1931 French Grand Prix victory. Bugatti hand-painted the number 32 and created two exterior colors; inside, stitched motifs and details on the center console, door sills, headrests and entry lights carried the racing theme.
Later projects show how far a design can be developed without changing the basic idea of personalizing a Bugatti through its finish and cabin. The 2022 Vagues de Lumière pair featured individually applied paint designs. Bugatti said those particular paint schemes took around five weeks to create; that is not a standard program timeline. The Vagues de Lumière announcement describes the commissions.

For the 2023 Golden Era commission, Bugatti said the work took two years, with more than 400 hours spent sketching 45 drawings of Bugatti icons for the exterior of a Chiron Super Sport. These figures describe that project, not a typical Sur Mesure schedule. Bugatti’s Golden Era announcement provides the figures.
What is Programme Solitaire?
Bugatti unveiled Programme Solitaire in August 2025 as an offer beyond Sur Mesure: one-of-one vehicles created around an individual design vision. Bugatti says Solitaire commissions use existing Bugatti chassis and powertrains, with the bespoke work focused on bodywork and interior details. Its first creation, Brouillard, is a coupe honoring Ettore Bugatti’s favored horse. Bugatti’s announcement of Solitaire and Brouillard describes the project.

How Brouillard illustrates the difference
Solitaire is not simply a production car with personalized paint or trim. Brouillard’s design is organized around a singular concept and includes sculptural exterior surfaces and a deeply customized cabin. Bugatti cites custom-woven Parisian fabric, green-tinted carbon fiber, machined aluminum, embroidered horse motifs and seats shaped to the owner’s preference. Its gear shifter contains a miniature hand-crafted horse sculpture.
Bugatti announced a maximum of two Solitaire creations per year in 2025. That is the limit stated at the program’s introduction, not a guarantee of current availability or a commitment that should be assumed for later years.

How does Bugatti bespoke customization work?
At a high level, Bugatti describes Sur Mesure as a collaboration that begins with a customer’s concept and continues through design, production and handover. Its Tourbillon configuration coverage also describes a process in which customers are guided by Bugatti’s global dealer network and the team in Molsheim. That account is specific to Tourbillon configuration; it does not establish that every request or process is identical across models.
Requests must pass feasibility review
A customer’s idea is not automatically approved. Bugatti says its design and engineering departments review requests and develop, test and validate a feature before approval. In its 2025 Tourbillon coverage, the marque gives a personalized logo, a unique paint effect, coordinated brake-caliper color, a custom-stitched silhouette or leather matched to a chosen shade as examples of requests that may be considered. Bugatti’s Tourbillon configuration article describes the options and review process.

Bugatti’s cited program announcements do not publish a general price for Sur Mesure or Solitaire. They also do not set out a commissioning eligibility rule, deposit or standard lead time. A customer would need to discuss a specific commission with Bugatti; the published project durations for Vagues de Lumière and Golden Era are examples, not estimates for other commissions.

What Bugatti’s published claims establish
The program descriptions and craft figures here come from Bugatti’s own publications. They are primary sources for how the manufacturer describes its offerings, but they are not independent assessments of price, value, durability or customer experience. Bugatti’s 2021 launch release also retrospectively notes six Veyron “Les Légendes de Bugatti” editions with unique finishes, more than three weeks of hand painting for Chiron “Zebra 1 of 1,” and 18 months of development for the Divo “Lady Bug” pattern. Those are historical project examples, not industry benchmarks or promises about future commissions.
