Buell’s comeback is real, but it is narrower and slower than the company’s original ambitions suggested. The clearest milestone is the Super Cruiser: Buell says customer deliveries began in December 2025 after regulatory approvals. Its current catalog lists four motorcycles, while the announced SuperTouring production start has not been confirmed by the available company updates as of October 4, 2026.
What Buell promised when it announced its return
In 2021, CEO Bill Melvin announced, “Buell is back!” The company said it was returning to American production, hand-building motorcycles in Grand Rapids around its 1190 platform. Its ambition was much broader than a single sportbike: Buell targeted ten performance models by model year 2024 and discussed possible dirt, dual-sport, touring, cruiser, smaller-displacement and electric motorcycles. That was a forward-looking plan, not confirmation that those models reached production.

Buell’s timeline also makes clear that a return announcement was not the same as an immediate production ramp. In a company engineering bulletin, engineer Jacob Stark said production officially restarted in November 2021. He described the Hammerhead and 1190SX as descendants of the earlier EBR 1190 RX/SX lineage. The bulletin also says Buell chose carbon fiber for body components after finding early 2014–2018 ABS panels brittle. That is the manufacturer’s account of its engineering choices, not independent evidence of comparative durability. Buell’s 2021 return announcement · Buell engineering bulletin

The Super Cruiser is the clearest evidence of the comeback
Buell unveiled the Super Cruiser in February 2023. The company announced its first completed build, VIN 0001, on September 26, 2025. On December 17, 2025, it said the model had received EPA and CARB approvals and that customer deliveries had begun. These are dated company milestones; they establish Buell’s stated progress, but not how many customers have received motorcycles.

Buell says it hand-assembles the motorcycles in Grand Rapids. Buyers can order directly or arrange delivery through a Premium Service Center. The company reported more than 80 authorized service locations and said it aimed to reach 120 in 2026. Those figures and the delivery update are Buell-reported and have not been independently audited. Manufacturing and Quality Director Jason Anderson described the production ramp as “slow and steady,” saying the company wanted to ensure each machine met its promise. Treat the production date as an announced target, not a completed milestone.

Buell’s international activity includes a UK return
In May 2025, Buell announced a UK return through Rainbow Moto & Re-Charge Café. It named the Hammerhead 1190 and 1190SX for the initial shipment. The announcement described further inventory and the introduction of other models as prospective, rather than confirming that they were already available. Buyers outside the United States should check local availability and service arrangements with the named distributor or Buell. Buell’s UK announcement
