BSA’s return began with the Gold Star, revealed on 4 December 2021. Classic Legends, a Mahindra Group subsidiary, had acquired BSA in October 2016, more than four decades after the marque’s continuous production ended in summer 1973.
What was the first new BSA motorcycle?
It was the Gold Star. BSA unveiled the new model at Motorcycle Live in Birmingham on 4 December 2021, making it the first new model since Classic Legends acquired the marque. The Gold Star name looks back to BSA’s earlier motorcycles. In its 2022 UK and Ireland distribution announcement, BSA said the new model’s design cues were inspired by the DB34 Gold Star. It identified the motorcycle as a 652cc single-cylinder model. Those details describe the model as presented in that announcement, not a complete specification for every market or model year. Why did the revival take so long?
BSA traces its roots to the Birmingham Small Arms Company, founded in 1861. The company says its motorcycle division was established in 1903 and its first motorcycle was introduced in 1910. Its official history says 63 years of continuous production ended in summer 1973. Classic Legends acquired BSA in October 2016; BSA identifies Classic Legends as a Mahindra Group subsidiary. What did “due in 2022” mean?
The Gold Star’s reveal date was in 2021. The 2022 milestone was its route toward distribution: BSA announced a UK and Ireland distribution partner and described that arrangement as a step toward bringing the Gold Star back to the streets. A reveal, a distribution agreement and motorcycles reaching dealers are distinct events; the dated announcement establishes the distribution step, not current stock at a particular dealer.
BSA later announced European expansion in 2022. That announcement documents the rollout at that time, but does not establish where the motorcycle is in stock today. BSA’s 2022 expansion announcement describes that step.

What was announced for India?
On 15 August 2024, Mahindra announced the Gold Star 650’s launch in India. Its India announcement described the bike as liquid-cooled, quoted 55 Nm of torque, and listed Brembo brakes, dual-channel ABS, Excel rims and Pirelli tyres.
