The Bruder EXP-7 sits between the smaller EXP-6 and larger EXP-8 in Bruder’s range, making “Goldilocks” a reasonable description of its position—not proof that it is the right camper for every buyer. The current Australian product page lists a starting price of AUD $278,900 including GST, a 3,500 kg ATM and 650 mm of ground clearance. Those specifications point to a substantial expedition trailer, but neither the manufacturer’s capability claims nor a reviewer’s favorable towing impressions establish that it dominates competing campers.
What the Bruder EXP-7 is—and what “Goldilocks” means
The EXP-7 is a premium expedition trailer offered as a pop-top (PT) and hard-top Grand Tourer (GT). Caravan World places it between Bruder’s EXP-6 and EXP-8, which supports describing it as the middle-sized choice in that product range. “Goldilocks,” however, is a buyer-dependent judgment: the EXP-7’s weight, price and size may be a good compromise for one tow vehicle and trip plan, but excessive for another.
The phrase “off-road dominance” goes further than the available evidence. Bruder publishes high-clearance and suspension specifications, and Caravan World reviewer John Ford reported favorable towing behavior over rough roads in a November 2023 review. That is useful context, not a controlled comparison with rival trailers.
Current Australian price and key specifications
Bruder’s current EXP-7 page lists a starting price of AUD $278,900 including GST. The same page lists the following figures for both roof versions; it says weight varies with the options and build selected. Check the quote and finished unit’s compliance plate rather than treating a listed tare as the weight of every completed trailer.

| Specification | EXP-7 PT | EXP-7 GT |

| Tare | 2,700 kg | 2,700 kg |
| ATM | 3,500 kg | 3,500 kg |

| Overall length | 6,995 mm | |
| Width | 1,915 mm | |
| Stated ground clearance | 650 mm | |
The listed ATM minus tare is 800 kg, but that is only a nominal difference—not a promise of 800 kg of usable cargo capacity. Options add weight, and actual loading also has to respect the trailer’s build-specific limits, towball load and the tow vehicle’s ratings.
Historical prices should not be mixed with the current listing. Caravan World reported a AUD $258,500 starting price in 2023, and RV Daily reported the same figure in March 2024; those are dated snapshots, not the current advertised price.

PT or GT: the practical difference
EXP-7 PT
The pop-top is the lower option in both listed travel and maximum height: 2,299 mm travelling and 2,599 mm at maximum height, based on 33-inch tyres. That height difference may matter when assessing storage, access and overhead clearance. The manufacturer’s figures do not by themselves establish which version is better for a particular route or campsite.
EXP-7 GT
The hard-top GT is listed at 2,534 mm in travel height and 2,834 mm maximum height, also based on 33-inch tyres. It is 235 mm taller than the PT in either of those corresponding measurements. Check the height that applies to the actual configuration and planned route rather than relying on a general vehicle-height assumption.

Off-road equipment and what the claims establish
Bruder lists an off-road coupling, hydraulic disc brakes, 18-inch wheels with 33/12.50R18 tyres, rear recovery points and its air suspension as standard equipment relevant to off-road use. The manufacturer advertises 650 mm of ground clearance and up to 12 inches of wheel travel. Its brochure also says the suspension permits towing on two or three wheels and is trusted by the Australian Defence Force for specialised operations. These are Bruder’s claims; the available material does not independently verify the defence-force reference or demonstrate the suspension behavior in a controlled test.
Bruder’s options list includes a tyre inflation kit, rear winch, MaxTrax recovery boards, stone-guard protection and additional battery capacity. Treat these as configuration choices to discuss with the seller, not proof that a particular accessory model fits or is included in the starting price.

Caravan World reviewer John Ford described the trailer as staying level over rough-road bumps in a 13 November 2023 review and considered its size sensible for reaching rougher tracks. Those are an individual reviewer’s impressions, not instrumented test results or a head-to-head ranking.

These are published capacities and equipment listings, not an independent estimate of days off-grid. Actual autonomy depends on consumption, weather, charging, passenger needs and the selected build. Confirm exactly what is included in the quoted configuration, since Bruder says specifications and weight vary with options.
Will your vehicle tow an EXP-7?
Do not decide from the trailer’s advertised tare alone. The current listed 3,500 kg ATM makes the tow vehicle’s maximum braked towing capacity only one part of the check. A suitable combination must also stay within the vehicle’s gross vehicle mass and gross combined mass limits, the trailer’s limits, and applicable towball download limits. Loaded trailer mass and towball load depend on the actual build and how it is packed.
- Get the exact build data. Ask for the quoted option list, finished tare, ATM and towball-load information; verify the compliance plate on the completed trailer.
- Check the tow vehicle’s ratings. Compare the vehicle’s permitted towing capacity, towball limit, gross vehicle mass and gross combined mass with the trailer and the loaded vehicle.
- Account for people and cargo. Passengers, accessories and luggage use vehicle capacity, while water and other loads affect the trailer’s actual mass and balance.
- Confirm the complete combination. If the figures are close to a limit or unclear, have the loaded combination checked by a qualified weighing service and confirm the applicable requirements for your jurisdiction.
Is the EXP-7 worth considering?
The EXP-7’s case is strongest for buyers who specifically want a premium, high-clearance expedition trailer with substantial published electrical and water capacity, and whose vehicle and budget can accommodate a large, heavy build. Its PT and GT heights offer a meaningful configuration choice, while its listed price and 3,500 kg ATM make careful vehicle matching central to the decision.
It is not an objectively ideal middle ground for every Australian off-roader, and the evidence does not support calling it a category leader. Compare the exact loaded trailer and tow vehicle requirements against your routes, storage constraints and budget; a lighter or less expensive trailer may be a better fit. Bruder’s current specification and price are at Bruder’s EXP-7 product page; the dated road impressions are in Caravan World’s 2023 review.
