Brian O’Conner drives a green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse in the first The Fast and the Furious. The movie car’s reported build is more modest than its on-screen turbo and nitrous cues suggest: technical-advisor-derived information reported by The Drive identifies a naturally aspirated Chrysler 420A engine, not a turbocharged GS-T or GSX setup.
What car did Brian drive in the first Fast & Furious?
It is a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. A 2023 Fanhome/DeAgostini collection issue also identifies the car as a “MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE (1995),” supporting the model-year identification. The film’s dramatic presentation can make it easy to mistake the movie car for a turbocharged version.
What engine and modifications did the movie car have?
According to build information attributed to first-film technical advisor Craig Lieberman and reported by The Drive in 2019, the Eclipse used a naturally aspirated Chrysler 420A twin-cam 2.0-liter engine. The account lists a cold-air intake, Hotshot header and bored-out throttle body, and gives output as 140 horsepower at the crank. These figures describe the reported movie-car build, not every 1995 Eclipse.
The same account says the visible 75-shot nitrous system was not plumbed into the engine. The film’s nitrous sequence should therefore not be treated as proof that the system on the build functioned.

Was Brian’s Eclipse a GS-T or GSX?
The Drive’s account says the first-film car was neither a turbocharged GS-T nor an all-wheel-drive GSX, despite how the film’s dialogue and sound effects may suggest otherwise. Some online accounts call it a turbo GS-T, but that conflicts with the technical-advisor-derived build information reported by The Drive. The replica-builder guide independently points to a 1995 RS/420A basis, while cautioning that its own information may be wrong; it is supporting context, not definitive proof.
