It produces 145 hp (107 kW) at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm (110 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. The 2026 R 1300 RT has the same headline output. That makes “most powerful” the supported claim—not a verified top-speed or acceleration record.
How much power does the BMW R 1300 RS make?
BMW lists the 2026 R 1300 RS at 145 hp (107 kW) at 7,750 rpm and peak torque of 149 Nm (110 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. BMW calls it the most powerful serial-production BMW boxer engine to date in its April 29, 2025 announcement of the 2026 R 1300 RS.
Does the R 1300 RT use the same engine?
Yes. BMW gives the 2026 R 1300 RT the same 1,300 cc boxer headline figures: 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm (110 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. The 2026 R 1300 RT announcement describes the motorcycle as a tourer; BMW positions the RS as a sports tourer. Shared engine output does not establish identical overall performance, handling, or acceleration.

What is distinctive about the 1,300 cc boxer?
BMW describes it as an air/liquid-cooled, four-stroke, two-cylinder boxer with BMW ShiftCam variable intake camshaft control, two chain-driven overhead camshafts and a counterbalance shaft. Its listed bore is 106.5 mm, stroke is 73 mm and compression ratio is 13.3:1. The technical details appear in BMW’s R 1300 RS technical specifications.
How does it compare with the previous engine?
BMW Motorrad USA’s model announcements compare the new engine’s 145 hp and 110 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm with the predecessor’s 136 hp and 105 lb-ft at 6,250 rpm. These are BMW-published figures; they do not amount to an independent, same-condition performance test. The comparison is included in BMW’s RS and RT announcements.

Does “fastest” mean the highest top speed?
Not on the evidence BMW provides here. Its claim is that the engine is the most powerful serial-production BMW boxer to date. The cited specifications and announcements do not establish a top-speed record for either motorcycle or an independently verified acceleration record. Engine horsepower alone cannot settle which bike has the highest road speed.
