The BMW X7 has one generation: the G07, introduced in 2018 and brought to market in 2019. Its major 2022 refresh is a facelift within that generation—not a second generation—and BMW called the refreshed SUV the 2023 X7 in the United States.
BMW X7 generations at a glance
BMW announced the first-ever X7 on October 17, 2018, identified it as the G07, and said its market launch would begin in March 2019. BMW Canada lists the production period as 2019–present and identifies 2022 as the facelift year.

Which BMW X7 model years are facelifted?
The facelift was announced in calendar year 2022, while BMW marketed the refreshed vehicle as a 2023 model in the United States. Those dates describe different things: the announcement/update timing and the US model-year designation. BMW Canada identifies 2022 as the facelift year. When identifying a particular vehicle, use its market and model year rather than treating “2022” and “2023” as universal labels for every country.
How to tell the original G07 from the facelift
Exterior

Interior technology
BMW presented the refreshed X7 with a BMW Curved Display and iDrive 8. Equipment can vary with market, trim and vehicle specification, so confirm the installed system on the individual SUV rather than relying on the model year alone.
Powertrain
BMW’s US launch announcement listed the xDrive40i with a 375-hp inline-six and the M60i with a 523-hp V8, and described 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. These are launch-period US specifications, not specifications to apply automatically to every later model year or other market. What stayed central to the X7’s design?
BMW introduced the X7 as a three-row SUV with seven seats standard and optional two individual comfort seats in the second row. Why the X7 is still one generation
BMW’s materials identify the X7 as the G07, and BMW Canada describes the model’s production period as 2019–present with a facelift in 2022. The substantial redesign did not establish a new generation: it refreshed the existing G07. BMW says the X7 is manufactured at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
