They are not identical-year or identical-trim rivals, so the comparison is a buying framework rather than a controlled test.
The BMW starts at $43,200 MSRP and the AMG at $58,550 MSRP. BMW lists 241 hp and 6.2 seconds from 0–60 mph for the X1; Mercedes-Benz lists 302 hp and 5.1 seconds for the GLA 35. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.

What is actually being compared?
The name BMW X1 covers more than one powertrain and performance level. The sourced BMW is the xDrive28i, the regular all-wheel-drive configuration. BMW also lists an X1 M35i as a separate model. The M35i is not represented by the xDrive28i’s 241-hp, 6.2-second figures, so those numbers should not be used to characterize every X1.
The Mercedes is specifically the AMG GLA 35, not a lower-output GLA variant. Mercedes-Benz USA identifies the page as a 2026 model and gives it AMG-specific powertrain, suspension, braking and wheel equipment. Because the BMW page identifies a 2027 vehicle, the model years do not line up.
This matters when you request quotes. Tell a dealer the exact year, trim and drivetrain rather than asking for a generic X1 or GLA price. Equipment, incentives and availability can change by model year, and a quote for an X1 M35i or another GLA version would answer a different question.

BMW lists the 2027 X1 xDrive28i at a $43,200 starting MSRP. Mercedes-Benz lists the 2026 AMG GLA 35 at $58,550 MSRP. The difference is $15,350 before destination charges, taxes, registration, dealer-installed items, financing costs or options. On the published base figures, the AMG asks for roughly 35.5 percent more than the BMW.
MSRP is a reference point, not an out-the-door quote. Neither figure establishes what a dealer will charge in your area, whether an allocation is available, or whether a vehicle has mandatory accessories. Ask for a buyer’s order showing selling price, destination, documentation fee, taxes, registration and every installed option.
The Mercedes page lists individual package prices: $2,800 for the AMG Performance Seat Package, $3,250 for its Advanced version, $2,150 for Exclusive Trim, $4,000 for Pinnacle Trim, $450 for the Winter Package and $1,700 for the Driver Assistance Package. These are listed prices on that product page, not a complete configured-vehicle total; the packages may not all be selected together, and the page does not establish a final transaction price.
BMW’s indexed 2026 X1 lease page showed $499 per month for 39 months, $4,599 due at signing and a $47,750 MSRP, but it stated that the offer expired September 30, 2026. It should not be treated as a current deal. No current Mercedes-Benz lease or finance terms are established by the cited GLA 35 page.

Power and acceleration: the AMG has the clear published advantage
The X1 xDrive28i is listed at 241 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. BMW publishes 0–60 mph in 6.2 seconds and labels that result preliminary. BMW also warns that actual acceleration varies with vehicle specification, road and environmental conditions, test procedure and driving style.
The AMG GLA 35 is listed at 302 hp and 295 lb-ft. Mercedes-Benz gives it a 5.1-second 0–60-mph time. That is 61 more horsepower and 1.1 seconds quicker on the manufacturers’ published figures, although the tests are not independent and the pages do not state that BMW and Mercedes used identical conditions.
Peak torque is the same on paper, but Mercedes specifies the AMG’s 295 lb-ft at 3,000–4,000 rpm, while BMW’s X1 page does not provide an rpm range for its torque figure. You therefore cannot infer identical response or drivability from the matching torque number alone.
The AMG’s output comes from an AMG-enhanced 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with hybrid assist. Mercedes-Benz specifies gasoline and requires premium unleaded fuel. BMW’s cited X1 pages provide the output and transmission information but do not establish a fuel grade or hybrid-assist description for the xDrive28i, so do not assume those details are interchangeable.
Use the acceleration numbers to understand the manufacturers’ positioning, not as a promise of what your public-road drive will achieve. Tire condition, load, temperature, elevation, fuel and launch procedure all affect a real vehicle. A dealer drive can help you judge throttle calibration and noise, but it cannot turn the published figures into a standardized comparison.
Transmission and all-wheel-drive systems
Both sourced vehicles send power to all four wheels. The BMW uses a seven-speed automatic transmission. The AMG uses an AMG SPEEDSHIFT eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
The different transmission designs are a meaningful specification distinction, but the pages do not provide shift-time measurements, gear ratios or a controlled traction test. A dual-clutch label alone does not prove that one vehicle will feel better in every condition. During a drive, pay attention to low-speed smoothness, response when pulling into traffic and behavior during parking maneuvers.

Both systems also mean additional mechanical complexity compared with a two-wheel-drive compact SUV. The supplied manufacturer pages do not provide long-term reliability rates, repair costs or maintenance schedules, so this comparison cannot responsibly rank either vehicle for ownership dependability.
Chassis and braking hardware favor the AMG’s performance mission
Mercedes-Benz lists a four-wheel independent AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension with three-stage damping, an AMG high-performance braking system, 19-inch wheels and 235/50R19 all-season extended-mobility tires. Those are specific AMG components rather than generic GLA descriptions.
The BMW page identifies the X1 xDrive28i’s automatic transmission and all-wheel drive but does not provide an equivalent list of adaptive damping settings, brake specifications or tire model in the cited material. That does not prove the BMW lacks a feature; it means a like-for-like hardware conclusion cannot be made from these pages.
If ride comfort is a priority, ask for a drive over broken pavement and expansion joints, not only a smooth dealership loop. If steering and braking feel matter, include a low-speed turn, a firm but legal stop and a highway merge. These observations are personal evaluations, not substitutes for instrumented testing.
Size, seating and cargo
BMW lists the X1 at 177.2 inches long, 72.6 inches wide excluding mirrors and 64.6 inches high, with a 106-inch wheelbase. BMW gives a 3,750-pound curb weight and a 14.3-gallon fuel capacity.

The page identifies seating for five and marks cargo capacity as TBA. It does not provide the same width, height, curb-weight or fuel-capacity set in the cited specifications.

BMW publishes 25.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 57.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Mercedes-Benz marks the GLA 35 cargo capacity TBA on the cited page. Because one manufacturer supplies numbers and the other does not, there is no sourced like-for-like cargo winner. Measure the actual luggage, stroller, instrument case or child-seat setup you carry, and check hatch opening height and seat-fold configuration at the dealership.

- Perfect Size for Display: The 1:24 scale 530Li diecast model measures 7.87×3.46×2.56 inches (20×8.8×6.5cm), a classic collection size that fits perfectly on your desk or display shelf.
- Ideal Gift for Multiple Occasions & Crowds: It’s a perfect gift for car lovers, diecast car collectors who love cars. Suitable for birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, and other festivals, as well as a thoughtful gift for colleagues, friends, and family.
- High-Quality & Durable Material: The main body is made of high-grade zinc alloy, which is sturdy, heavy, and resistant to drops and collisions. The accessories (windows, wheels, interior parts) are made of high-transparency and wear-resistant plastic, balancing texture and safety.
- Multi-Functional Interactive Experience: This model is not just a static display piece—it features full functional design: front hood, four doors, and trunk can be fully opened; front wheels can steer; four wheels have shock absorption function; press the body to trigger realistic horn sound and bright lights; rear wheels have pull-back power, allowing you to enjoy the fun of playing while appreciating the model.
The GLA’s longer wheelbase does not by itself establish more rear-seat room, just as the X1’s greater listed length does not establish more usable cargo space. Interior packaging, seat travel and floor design determine that outcome, and those measurements are not supplied here.
Fuel economy and fuel requirements
Mercedes-Benz lists 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for the 2026 AMG GLA 35. The page does not provide a combined rating in the cited material, so do not average the two figures or present a calculated combined number as an official result.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →BMW’s cited X1 pages do not state fuel-economy figures for the 2027 xDrive28i. That omission prevents a responsible mpg comparison. It also means you should obtain the window sticker or current EPA listing for the exact BMW vehicle before estimating annual fuel cost.
The AMG page requires premium unleaded and lists a 13.5-gallon fuel capacity. BMW’s fuel grade and tank size are not established by the cited X1 information except for the 14.3-gallon capacity listed in BMW’s dimensions section; do not assume the BMW has the same premium-fuel requirement. To budget accurately, combine the exact vehicle’s official fuel rating, your local fuel prices, annual miles and driving mix.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one should you choose?
Choose the X1 xDrive28i when purchase price and published cargo data lead
The BMW is the rational starting point if you want to spend less before options, prefer a conventional compact-SUV power level and need a manufacturer-published cargo baseline. Its lower MSRP leaves $15,350 available for taxes, insurance, winter equipment or other household priorities. The X1 is also the only vehicle in this comparison with published cargo volumes, which makes early space planning easier.
Choose the AMG GLA 35 when acceleration and performance hardware justify the premium
The AMG is the stronger choice when quicker published acceleration, higher horsepower, a dual-clutch transmission, AMG all-wheel drive, adjustable sport damping, larger performance-oriented wheels and AMG brakes are central to your decision. You are paying for a performance-oriented specification, not merely a badge or a small option package.

Do not choose on cargo space until you inspect both vehicles
The BMW’s figures are useful, but the Mercedes page’s TBA cargo entry means the data set is incomplete. Bring the objects that determine your purchase and test them in both vehicles. Check whether the rear seats are in their normal position, whether the cargo floor is level and whether the hatch closes without compressing your load.

Consider the X1 M35i if you want an X1 performance comparison
BMW lists the X1 M35i separately from the xDrive28i. If your real question is whether a performance X1 is preferable to the AMG GLA 35, obtain current M35i pricing and specifications and compare those exact model years. The xDrive28i numbers in this article cannot answer that performance-trim matchup.
Ask whether the AMG equipment is worth the total transaction price
Build the Mercedes with only the packages you actually need, then compare the resulting buyer’s order with a similarly equipped X1. The AMG’s listed package prices can materially change the gap from the base MSRP, while BMW’s base figure also excludes any options and dealer charges. The correct question is not whether the AMG is faster; its published figures answer that. The question is whether you will use and value the performance hardware enough to accept the higher purchase and fuel requirements.
A practical shopping process
- Write the comparison correctly. Request a 2027 BMW X1 xDrive28i quote and a 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 quote. If a salesperson substitutes an X1 M35i or another GLA trim, record that as a different vehicle.
- Get itemized pricing. Ask for MSRP, destination charge, installed options, dealer fees, taxes, registration and any protection products on separate lines. Do not compare a bare BMW MSRP with a fully optioned Mercedes invoice.
- Confirm fuel information. Verify the BMW’s official fuel grade and current EPA ratings from its window sticker. The AMG page specifies premium unleaded and 22 city/30 highway; your cost model should use those exact inputs.
- Inspect cargo with your own equipment. Use the same bags, stroller, sports gear or child seats in both vehicles. Record seat position and whether the rear seats are folded when measuring.
- Drive representative roads. Include rough pavement, a tight parking maneuver, a highway merge and a controlled stop where legal. Note comfort, visibility, pedal calibration and transmission behavior separately from acceleration claims.
- Check tires and wheels. The AMG specification calls for 19-inch wheels with 235/50R19 all-season extended-mobility tires. Confirm the exact BMW wheel and tire setup on the vehicle you are considering before pricing replacements or winter tires.
- Review warranty and service documents. This material does not establish reliability or ownership-cost rankings. Read the current warranty, maintenance schedule, roadside-assistance terms and tire coverage for the exact VIN.
- Recalculate the deal after incentives. Treat any advertised lease or finance offer as date- and eligibility-specific. The cited BMW 2026 offer expired September 30, 2026, and no current Mercedes financing terms are established here.
How to interpret the manufacturer figures
Manufacturer acceleration times are useful for positioning but are not laboratory results from a common test program in this comparison. BMW explicitly labels the X1 result preliminary and lists variables that can change it. Mercedes-Benz supplies the GLA 35 time without a corresponding independent test in the cited material. Use the numbers directionally: the AMG is expected to be the quicker configuration on paper, while the exact gap in your drive may differ.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
MSRP figures are equally specific. They identify a starting reference for the named US model year and trim, not a promised selling price. Destination, taxes, options, market conditions and financing can all move the final number. A lower MSRP does not automatically produce a lower monthly payment if terms, down payment, credit tier or residual value differ.
Dimensions also need context. BMW reports width without mirrors, while Mercedes does not provide a matching width in the cited page. Wheelbase and length are exterior measurements, not guarantees of passenger comfort. Cargo numbers are only comparable when measured under the same standard; here, BMW provides volumes and Mercedes marks the value TBA.
Verdict: decide whether you are buying value or AMG performance
For a buyer comparing these exact US listings, the BMW X1 xDrive28i is the value-and-practicality choice: it costs less at the start and comes with published cargo figures. The Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 is the performance choice: it brings the higher-output engine, quicker published acceleration and a more extensively specified AMG chassis.
The Mercedes is worth its premium only if you will use those performance attributes and accept the higher entry price, premium-fuel requirement and option costs. If your priorities are budget control, everyday utility and verifiable cargo planning, begin with the X1. If your priority is the most immediate performance of these two sourced configurations, begin with the AMG, then confirm the final equipment and price on a real vehicle.
