The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X is a concept electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) that BMW unveiled in March 2024 to preview how its Neue Klasse design and technology ideas could shape future SUVs. BMW later identified the production iX3 as the first series-production Neue Klasse model and said the concept had foreshadowed it—but concept details and projections are not the production vehicle’s final specifications.
What the Vision Neue Klasse X is
BMW introduced the Vision Neue Klasse X on March 21, 2024, as the SUV counterpart to its Vision Neue Klasse sedan. The X concept expressed the company’s intended direction for an electric SAV: a simpler exterior, upright proportions, large windows, and a panoramic glass roof. What BMW proposed for the cabin
The concept’s interior focused on visibility, digital information, voice interaction, and sound. BMW proposed Panoramic Vision across the lower windshield alongside a central display, expanded voice control, and HYPERSONX personalized sound. It also highlighted Verdana, a plant-based interior material. These details illustrate BMW’s concept and design intent; they should not be read as confirmation that every feature or material carried over unchanged to the iX3.
What BMW claimed about range and charging
BMW’s March 2024 announcement described sixth-generation BMW eDrive, round lithium-ion cells, and an 800-volt system. The company attached several quantified claims to that technology direction. They are BMW’s claims, not independently tested results or final specifications for a production iX3.

Which production SUV followed the concept?
BMW named the iX3 as the first series-production Neue Klasse model in a September 2025 announcement and said the Vision Neue Klasse X had foreshadowed it. In that September 2025 announcement, BMW listed a provisional WLTP range of 679–805 km (421–500 miles) for the iX3 50 xDrive. BMW also described European and U.S. market launches as planned for spring and summer 2026, respectively. Those are production-model figures and plans from that announcement, not Vision Neue Klasse X specifications; the range is WLTP, not an EPA rating. What BMW said about bidirectional charging
In a separate March 2024 announcement, BMW said Neue Klasse models were planned to support bidirectional charging, naming Vehicle-to-Home, Vehicle-to-Grid, and Vehicle-to-Load functions and referencing BMW Connected Home Charging. The statement does not establish that every Neue Klasse model or market will offer each function, or that a particular third-party charger is compatible. Why BMW presented the concept
The concept’s role was to show the breadth of BMW’s intended Neue Klasse lineup, rather than to serve as a complete preview of a production vehicle’s final specification.
