Camouflaged prototypes of the BMW M5 sedan and M5 Touring have been spotted with redesigned bumpers, slimmer front lighting and kidney grilles, and four exhaust outlets. Those are reported prototype details—not a BMW design reveal: BMW has not confirmed the facelift’s final appearance or specifications in the sources reviewed.
What the M5 facelift prototypes appear to show
SEMA’s report, with photographs credited to Andreas Conradt and Automedia, describes a more conventional front-end treatment than an earlier Neue Klasse-style direction. The prototypes appear to have slimmer headlight clusters and kidney grilles, plus a revised lower fascia with vertical air-intake elements. At the rear, four exhaust tips are visible through a reshaped bumper.
BMWBLOG reported on June 21, 2026, that G90 sedan and G90 Touring prototypes were testing near the Nürburgring with updated bumpers, lighting and trim. The reports support an exterior refresh across both body styles, but do not establish whether their final production bumpers or rear details will differ.
Details that remain expectations
SEMA expects new taillights, but the reporting does not establish them as a clearly photographed or confirmed production feature. SEMA also calls the car a “’28 model-year” facelift; that timing is the publication’s report, not a BMW-announced model-year specification.

How the four pipes compare with the current M5
Four exhaust outlets are not new to the current M5. BMW’s June 25, 2024 U.S. release describes the 2025 M5’s exhaust as two pairs of 4-inch-diameter tailpipes integrated into the rear apron. That is an official reference for the current car, not a measurement of the facelift prototype: the reports do not give the refreshed M5’s pipe dimensions or confirm its final exhaust design. What is—and is not—known about power
The facelift reports reviewed establish no powertrain change. BMW’s 2024 global launch announcement lists 535 kW/727 hp maximum system output and 1,000 Nm peak system torque for the then-new M5. Why the “emergency refresh” label needs context
“Emergency refresh” is headline-style framing, not a BMW description or an established explanation for the update. BMWBLOG’s account of two design directions and focus-group reactions is attributed to sources; it should not be treated as an official account of BMW’s decision-making. The physical evidence available is limited to camouflaged prototypes and reporting about their visible exterior changes.
