It combined a 600 hp, 700 Nm V8 with the Competition Package as standard, edition-specific trim and a quoted 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. “2017” is often used in listings and searches, but BMW’s announcement was in 2016; a particular car’s build or registration year must be confirmed from its records.
What made the M5 Competition Edition different?
BMW positioned the Competition Edition as a limited send-off for the fifth-generation, F10 M5. Its defining change over the standard car was not a new engine design: it paired a higher-output version of the 4.4-litre V8 with the Competition Package as standard, then added distinctive exterior and cabin details. BMW’s global launch release and UK press kit document the edition’s specifications and appearance.
Powertrain and acceleration
The 4.4-litre V8 was rated by BMW at 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Power went through a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic. BMW quoted 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3.9 seconds; this is the manufacturer’s launch figure, not an independent test result.
Competition Package chassis
The Competition Package was standard. BMW described a 10 mm lower ride height, firmer spring, damper and stabilizer settings, a more direct steering map, and revised calibration for M Dynamic Mode. These changes distinguish the edition’s documented setup from a standard F10 M5; they do not establish the present condition or specification of any individual used car.

Edition-specific details
BMW highlighted Jet Black 20-inch forged wheels, carbon-fibre BMW M Performance exterior parts, black kidney grilles and carbon interior trim marked “M5 Competition 1/200.” The global release specified two paint choices: Carbon Black metallic and Mineral White metallic. Those are factory identifiers to check against a car’s records and current condition, rather than proof that a particular example retains its original parts.
How many were made, and where were they sold?
BMW capped worldwide production at 200 cars: 100 in Carbon Black metallic and 100 in Mineral White metallic, according to its 2016 global announcement. BMW Canada separately said 18 cars were allocated to Canada in its Canadian announcement. That allocation is specific to Canada; it should not be used to infer the number allocated to any other country.

What should you verify on a car advertised as a 2017 Competition Edition?
The edition’s rarity and visible trim make documentation especially useful. BMW announced it in 2016, so a “2017” label alone does not establish when a specific vehicle was built, first registered, or whether it is one of the 200 editions.
- Check the VIN and vehicle records to confirm identity, production details and market of origin.
- Compare the car’s paint, wheels, exterior parts and marked interior trim with BMW’s documented edition features.
- Ask whether edition-specific components have been replaced or changed; current appearance alone cannot establish original specification.
- Assess mechanical condition separately. BMW’s launch specifications do not establish the condition, maintenance history or real-world performance of an individual used car.
What are the published fuel-consumption and emissions figures?
BMW’s global release gives combined consumption of 9.9 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 231 g/km, based on the EU test cycle. BMW notes that the values can vary with tyre format. They are test-cycle figures, not a claim about real-world consumption, and should not be applied as a universal figure for every market or driving condition.

Which oil filter fits an F10 M5?
BMW’s UK parts catalog lists genuine oil-filter element 11427848321 for F10 M5 variants with S63N engines. That is UK-catalog evidence, not confirmation that the part fits every car described as a 2017 M5 Competition Edition. BMW USA advises identifying genuine parts by VIN or by selecting model year and series in its parts catalog. Confirm fitment with the VIN and the parts catalog for the car’s market before ordering.
