The 2018 Honda Odyssey pairs seating for up to eight with movable second-row seats, a folding third row and family-focused technology. Honda’s specifications make a strong case for flexibility, but they are not a substitute for an independent road test: the available evidence does not establish how this Odyssey accelerates, rides, handles or brakes.
What the 2018 Odyssey offers
The 2018 model is the fifth generation of Honda’s minivan. In U.S. specifications published by American Honda in 2017, every trim uses a 3.5-liter direct-injected SOHC i-VTEC V6 with Variable Cylinder Management, rated at 280 SAE net horsepower. Honda pairs LX, EX, EX-L and EX-L NR with a nine-speed automatic; Touring and Elite get a 10-speed automatic. The 10-speed configuration also includes idle stop. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. Honda’s 2018 Odyssey press kit
Honda’s press kit lists peak torque as 262 lb-ft, while its feature guide gives 260 lb-ft. Both figures are manufacturer-published; the source pages differ, so the torque figure should not be treated as settled without specifying which Honda source is being cited. Honda’s 2018 Odyssey feature guide
How the seating and cargo flexibility works
Second row: Magic Slide
Honda says the available Magic Slide second-row seats can move fore and aft and laterally. That lets occupants or caregivers alter the arrangement for passenger access and cargo needs. Honda describes the system as useful for different seating and child-seat-access arrangements, but no specific child-seat fit has been independently established here.

Third row: one-motion 60/40 fold
The third-row Magic Seat folds in a one-motion 60/40 split, according to Honda. The split gives owners the option of folding part of the row while retaining some rear seating, or folding the row to prioritize cargo space. Honda lists seating for up to eight; the exact configuration depends on trim and equipment. Honda’s press kit and feature guide

CabinWatch and CabinTalk
CabinWatch is not listed across the range: Honda places it on Touring and Elite. CabinTalk, also trim-limited, is listed for EX-L Navi/RES, Touring and Elite. In practical terms, the features address two different needs—checking on rear passengers and communicating with them—but Honda’s equipment description alone does not establish how intuitive or effective either system is in everyday use.

What a first-drive verdict can—and cannot—say
The equipment and specifications support a clear conclusion about the Odyssey’s design priorities: configurable seating and a menu of family-oriented cabin technology, with more features on higher trims. They do not establish road-test results. No attributable independent drive observations are available here for acceleration, ride comfort, steering, transmission behavior, braking, cabin noise or infotainment usability, so those qualities should not be inferred from Honda’s specifications or feature descriptions.
