The highest and lowest totals in this set differ by ₹7,48,545. That is not a small rounding difference; it usually reflects different assumptions about registration, insurance and additional fees. A dealer quotation prepared for your intended registration type and insurance selection is therefore more useful than the headline figure on any one calculator.
What the ex-showroom price includes—and excludes
Ex-showroom is the vehicle price used as the starting point for a purchase calculation. BMW Group India’s launch communication states that its ex-showroom price excludes road tax, TCS and GST on TCS, RTO statutory taxes and fees, local levies and insurance. The company also says the price applicable is the one on the invoice date. In practice, a price page can continue to display a current-looking figure while the amount on your eventual invoice changes.

Road tax and RTO registration
Registration-related costs are paid to the relevant authority and depend on the registration basis used for the car. A private registration and any eligible alternative registration category can produce different calculations. Ask the dealer to identify the registration type in writing and show the corresponding RTO amount separately from the vehicle price. Do not treat a single combined “registration” line as transparent until you know which statutory items it contains.
Insurance selection
Insurance is another major variable. A quote may assume a particular insurer, coverage level, add-ons, deductible or policy term. Two calculators can therefore start with the same ex-showroom price and still produce different on-road totals. Request the insurer name, policy type, coverage period and every add-on included. If you obtain outside insurance, ask whether the dealer’s total has been reduced accordingly and whether any administrative fee remains.
Taxes, local levies and dealer charges
BMW’s statement also separates TCS, GST on TCS, statutory RTO fees and local levies from the ex-showroom figure. Dealers may present other payable items on the pro-forma invoice. Each should have a description and amount; avoid accepting an unexplained lump sum. Charges can change when tax rules, local schedules or dealer policies change, so compare quotations prepared on the same date.
How to compare a Chandigarh quotation with online estimates

- Separate optional products. Accessories, service packages, extended warranties and protection products should not be hidden inside an “on-road” total. Request a version of the quote with optional items removed so the mandatory purchase cost is clear.
- Reconcile the arithmetic. Add the ex-showroom amount and every listed mandatory charge yourself. If the dealer’s total differs, ask which line explains the difference before paying a booking amount.
- Check invoice timing. Since BMW says invoice-time pricing applies, ask what happens if the invoice is issued after a price or tax change. Get the treatment of any difference in writing.
Why online totals disagree
Price calculators are not necessarily quoting different cars. They can use different assumptions and update cycles. One page may refresh its tax or insurance inputs earlier than another; another may include a different insurance package or registration basis. The cited pages also carry different update or access dates, so they should not be read as simultaneous dealer offers.
The spread in the table demonstrates the practical effect. Autocar India’s estimate is ₹2,42,17,350, CarWale’s is ₹2,40,10,875 and CarDekho’s is ₹2,47,59,420. None of those pages, by itself, establishes the amount a particular Chandigarh buyer will pay on a particular invoice date. Use them to set an expectation, not to reject a properly itemised quote solely because its total is different.

BMW Group India announced the M5 at an ex-showroom launch price of ₹1,99,00,000 in its 21 November 2024 release. That is a historical launch figure, not the current Chandigarh price. The same release described the M5 as “the original performance sedan,” a launch-era company statement rather than an independent evaluation. Using the 2024 amount to budget a 2026 purchase would understate the current price basis.

Separate the amount required at registration from any financing arrangement. Your lender may use its own valuation, documentation and insurance requirements. The price pages do not establish a loan rate, down payment, tenure or approval outcome, so those figures must come from the lender and should not be inferred from the on-road estimate.

Review the quote before booking
Before signing, confirm that the vehicle description, ex-showroom price, mandatory taxes, registration, insurance and optional products match what you requested. Check cancellation and refund terms for the booking amount, and ask how a price revision between booking and invoice will be handled. A written answer is more reliable than an informal assurance.
