The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse offers a preview of the design and technology direction—not a production M3, and not a car BMW plans to sell in that form. BMW says the first M vehicles using Neue Klasse technology are planned to reach the market in 2027; that is not a confirmed delivery date for the M3.
What is confirmed about the BMW M3 EV?
BMW Group announced on October 2, 2026, that Plant Munich will build the first fully electric BMW M3. BMW describes it as the first high-performance model to feature BMW M Neue Klasse technology. The M3 will be the second Neue Klasse model produced at the site, after the fully electric BMW i3. BMW Group’s production-site announcement identifies Munich, but does not provide a specific M3 launch date or retail-market schedule.
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse is the closest official preview of the coming design direction. BMW presents it as a concept, not as the production M3: the company says it is not for sale and will not be produced in that form. BMW expects elements of its design, materials, driving experience and interpretation of the M brand to influence future vehicles. BMW’s concept page highlights a low, wide performance-car design and a driver-focused interior, but those details do not establish the final production car’s appearance or dimensions.
How BMW says the electric M technology will work
Four motors and wheel-specific control
BMW says its next electric M generation will use four electric motors, one at each wheel, arranged as two drive units across the front and rear axles. M-specific Dynamic Performance Control software is intended to coordinate torque and power at each wheel, while also managing braking. BMW says the front axle can be fully decoupled, allowing rear-wheel-focused handling when appropriate. These are descriptions of the upcoming electric M generation, not a complete, M3-specific production specification sheet. BMW’s January 21, 2026 announcement outlines the technology.

Battery and charging architecture
BMW says the upcoming electric M models will use Gen6 Neue Klasse technology, an 800-volt system and a high-voltage battery with more than 100 kWh of usable energy. The performance-oriented battery is to use a Gen6 cylindrical-cell variant and optimized cooling. BMW also says the battery housing will serve as a structural component connecting the front and rear axles.
BMW has not published an M3 EV EPA or WLTP range, peak charging rate, charging duration or charging curve in the announcements covered here. The battery capacity figure is BMW’s statement about the upcoming electric M models; it is not an M3 range estimate.

Driving features BMW has described
BMW says the new electric M generation will include simulated gear shifts, a new M soundscape, multiple driving modes and recuperation integrated with braking. These are planned features, not independently assessed characteristics of a production car. BMW has not published an M3-specific output, acceleration time, top speed or vehicle weight in the material cited above.
What does the concept tell us—and what does it not?
The concept provides a look at BMW’s intended design and technology language for future M cars. BMW describes its styling as an expressive interpretation of Neue Klasse design, with functional aerodynamics as well as visual impact. The concept’s materials and driving experience may also inform future models, according to BMW.

It does not establish that the production M3 will share the concept’s exact bodywork, interior, materials or equipment. BMW expressly says the concept will not be produced in this form. Treat it as a design and technology preview rather than a disguised production-car reveal.
When is the electric BMW M3 coming out?
BMW says the first BMW M vehicles with Neue Klasse technology are planned for market introduction in 2027. That timing applies to the first models in the program; BMW’s reviewed announcements do not identify the M3 as a specific 2027 launch or state when M3 customers can order or take delivery. Plant Munich is confirmed as its production site, but a factory announcement alone does not establish a launch schedule.

- Certified range, charging curve, peak charging rate and charge time
- Price, order timing and customer delivery timing
- Production dimensions and final design
BMW also reports that natural-fibre elements planned for the next electric M models emit around 40 percent less CO₂e during production than carbon fibre.
