The launch model was the all-wheel-drive iX3 50 xDrive. BMW’s current German technical page also lists 40 and 40 xDrive versions, with different batteries, outputs and WLTP ranges.
What makes the iX3 the first Neue Klasse EV?
BMW unveiled the iX3 at IAA Mobility in Munich on 5 September 2025, calling it the “first series-production model of the Neue Klasse.” Neue Klasse is not a trim level or a name for one vehicle: BMW uses it for a broader technology and design program. The iX3 is the first production model to bring that program’s updated design language and systems such as sixth-generation eDrive and BMW Panoramic iDrive to market. BMW says Neue Klasse technologies will extend to other models and updates. BMW’s global launch announcement and its Neue Klasse overview describe the project.
In practical terms, the claim is about the vehicle architecture, user interface and control systems—not simply the iX3’s name or styling. BMW says the Neue Klasse innovations are intended to benefit its wider range, including models with different drive technologies.
What is new in the iX3’s technology?
Panoramic iDrive
BMW describes Panoramic iDrive as a new display and operating concept. It is one of the iX3’s headline Neue Klasse introductions, rather than just a screen upgrade. The details and promised capabilities here are BMW’s descriptions; they have not been independently assessed in this article.

Heart of Joy and four high-performance computers
BMW calls the Heart of Joy the central control unit for the drivetrain and driving dynamics. It also says the vehicle’s four high-performance computers—or “superbrains”—pool computing for infotainment, automated driving, driving dynamics and basic vehicle functions. BMW claims their processing capacity is more than 20 times that of the current vehicle generation. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independently measured benchmark.
Battery cells and production claims
BMW says the iX3 uses Gen6 cylindrical battery cells with 20% higher energy density than the previous generation. The company also says the iX3’s supply-chain CO₂e emissions during product development were reduced by 35%, citing secondary materials, renewable energy and product and process innovations. BMW states that its Debrecen plant operates without fossil fuels under normal operating conditions. These are BMW’s claims; they should not be read as the result of an independent lifecycle assessment or audit.

Which BMW iX3 versions and ranges are listed in Germany?
BMW’s German technical-data page, accessed 8 October 2026, lists three versions. These are German-market specifications and should not be assumed to apply in other countries. Check the BMW page for the market where you plan to buy.

How should you interpret the iX3’s range figures?
The range figures above use the WLTP test cycle. They are standardized test-cycle values, not promises of distance in everyday driving. BMW notes that real range depends on factors including load, driving style, route, weather, auxiliary use, tires and battery condition. A figure from one test cycle should not be compared directly with a rating from another cycle without explaining the difference. The sources cited here provide WLTP values, not EPA ratings.
There is also a meaningful difference between the launch estimate and the current German listing for the 50 xDrive. BMW’s 5 September 2025 launch materials gave a provisional range of 679–805 km WLTP. The German page accessed on 8 October 2026 lists 666–806 km for that version. Treat the first as a provisional launch-era manufacturer figure and the latter as the current German-market listing—not as one universal range specification.

What do the iX3 charging figures mean?
For the 50 xDrive, BMW’s current German page lists a maximum DC charging rate of 400 kW and a 10–80% charging time of 21 minutes. At launch, BMW also said a suitable high-power charger could add up to 372 km of WLTP range in ten minutes. That ten-minute figure is a launch-era manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every charging stop.
Peak charging power is not the rate a car will maintain throughout a session. The actual result depends on the vehicle configuration, battery state and temperature, ambient conditions, driving profile, auxiliary use and the charger’s available power. For home charging, BMW lists AC charging options and refers to its Wallbox Professional in connection with bidirectional charging. Installation, electrical supply, connector and compatibility depend on the market and vehicle configuration.

What are the iX3’s cargo and towing figures?
BMW lists 520 litres of luggage capacity, expanding to 1,750 litres with the rear seatbacks folded, plus a 58-litre front compartment. The company also describes an optional electric tow hitch and a maximum trailer load of 2,000 kg for the iX3 50 xDrive. Confirm the equipment on the specific vehicle and the towing rules that apply where you drive.
When was the iX3 due to arrive in different markets?
In its September 2025 announcement, BMW said production of the first 50 xDrive would begin at its Debrecen plant in Hungary in autumn 2025. It announced a European market launch for spring 2026 and a US launch for summer 2026. BMW also announced a China-tailored version, to be produced in Shenyang, with deliveries planned from summer 2026. These were plans announced at launch; they do not establish current local inventory, prices or delivery schedules.
