BMW Motorrad has revealed the F 450 R, a road-focused naked motorcycle with a 420 cc parallel-twin, 35 kW (48 hp) and a claimed ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg. The global announcement also details four equipment versions, but does not establish local prices or sale dates.
What is the BMW F 450 R?
The F 450 R is a naked road bike in BMW’s F 450 family, developed around the F 450 GS chassis concept. BMW describes its tubular steel space frame as using the engine as a load-bearing element. It is designed for the European A2 licence class.
Despite “450” in its name, the engine’s stated displacement is 420 cc. BMW specifies a parallel-twin with a 135-degree crankpin offset. Output is 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm; BMW says up to 80% of maximum torque is available at 3,000 rpm. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Chassis, suspension and brakes
The front suspension is a 43 mm KYB upside-down fork. At the rear, a KYB central spring strut works with a hollow-cast aluminum, double-sided swingarm. BMW lists extra adjustment with Sport Suspension: rebound and compression at the fork, and preload and rebound at the rear.
Braking hardware comprises a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. The exhaust is stainless steel, mounted under the floor, and uses two catalytic converters.

Four versions: what equipment is included?
BMW announced four equipment versions. The press kit distinguishes their included features; it does not identify a performance difference between them.

BMW says Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) can be retrofitted to the other versions as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory. When combined with Shift Assistant Pro, it allows clutch-lever-free starts, stops and shifts, while leaving the lever available for rider input. Shift Assistant Pro, Sport Suspension and Riding Modes Pro are not standard across all four versions.

Safety, modes and display
BMW lists Rain, Road and Dynamic as the three standard riding modes. Riding Modes Pro adds Dynamic Pro; BMW lists it with the M Sport equipment, rather than as a feature common to every version. The announced electronic aids include ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Engine Brake Torque Control (MSR).
LED lighting, heated grips and a 6.5-inch TFT display with a Pure Ride screen are also listed. BMW describes phone, music and navigation functions, plus a USB-C port in the cockpit. M Sport versions equipped with Riding Modes Pro add three sport screens showing DTC, braking-force and lean-angle information, along with a lap timer.

Seat height and rider fit
The standard two-piece seat is 790 mm high. BMW lists an optional 775 mm low seat and an 810 mm high seat, giving buyers three stated seat-height choices. Seat height alone cannot determine fit for every rider, but these are the options BMW has announced.
