There is no single winner. The BMW CE 04 is a high-performance electric maxi-scooter with 31 kW (42 hp) and a 120 km/h electronically limited top speed. The current YObykes Yo Edge DX is a low-speed urban scooter with a 250 W hub motor and a 25 km/h maximum. Choose the BMW when faster roads, stronger acceleration and longer-distance capability matter; choose the Yo Edge DX when your routes are short, low-speed and budget-sensitive.

The fundamental difference: two performance classes
The CE 04 and Yo Edge DX may both be electric two-wheelers, but they are designed for different jobs. BMW’s official CE 04 specification lists 31 kW (42 hp) maximum output and a 120 km/h electronically limited top speed. YObykes lists a 250 W BLDC hub motor and a 25 km/h maximum speed for the current Yo Edge DX. Those numbers are so far apart that traffic speed, road type and the ability to merge safely should be your first decision criteria.

A 25 km/h scooter is suited to slow urban streets, housing areas and short errands. The CE 04 has the power reserve for faster urban arterials and inter-urban riding, subject to the rules and infrastructure in your market. Neither specification proves acceleration, braking distance or ride quality in every condition; no independent comparative test is included in the available evidence.

Make sure you are comparing the right Yo Edge
“Yo Edge” is an ambiguous name. YObykes’ current product page calls the model Edge DX or Yo Edge DX. A separate Electrotherm India Limited/YObykes brochure from March 2018 describes an earlier YO EDGE configuration. Its battery, range and charging figures must not be combined with the current DX specification.
When shopping, read the model name on the quotation, vehicle documents and battery label. Ask the dealer to state whether the scooter has VRLA or lithium-ion batteries, because that choice changes charging time, weight and the claimed range. Specifications can change without prior notice, as the legacy brochure itself states.

The practical question is not which number is larger but whether the scooter can keep up with the roads you actually use. If your route contains sustained traffic above 25 km/h, the Yo Edge DX’s speed ceiling will determine your trip planning. The CE 04’s 120 km/h limit gives much more flexibility, but it also places greater emphasis on appropriate protective equipment, braking condition, tyre condition and legal compliance.

For a campus, neighbourhood or compact city where trips stay below the DX’s limit, the smaller motor can be adequate. For a large city with faster avenues, hills or frequent overtaking, the CE 04’s output provides a wider safety margin and shorter time spent in moving traffic. Test the exact route rather than assuming that a “city” label means low speed.

The WMTC label attached to the BMW figure and the “up to” wording on the DX page are different kinds of claim. They should not be read as proof that either scooter will travel that distance on every commute. BMW specifically notes that riding style, traffic, road profile, temperature, load and battery ageing can reduce range. The same variables affect the YObykes, and the battery chemistry and condition add another source of variation.
Plan a usable range buffer
List your longest regular round trip, add the distance needed for detours and identify where charging is possible. Treat the published number as an upper reference, not the distance you promise yourself. A route with hills, stop-and-go traffic, cold weather or a heavy load can consume more energy than a smooth, moderate-speed test cycle.
Do not use the older 70 km brochure claim to describe the current Edge DX, and do not use the current “up to 80 km” claim to identify the 2018 vehicle. Confirm the battery and model year on the scooter you are considering.

Battery voltage and amp-hour figures cannot be compared directly with the BMW’s kilowatt-hour figure without accounting for the complete pack configuration. More importantly, the DX is offered with different chemistries and capacities. Ask for the installed pack, not merely the model name, and obtain the warranty terms for that pack.

VRLA versus lithium-ion on the DX
YObykes lists both VRLA and lithium-ion choices for the current DX. The published charging times differ, and the battery type can affect mass, service procedures and how much usable energy remains as the pack ages. The supplied specifications do not establish a controlled life-cycle comparison, so a dealer should confirm replacement cost, warranty coverage and approved charging equipment for the exact chemistry.

Charging access can outweigh nominal range. The CE 04 requires AC charging; it is not compatible with DC charging according to BMW’s specification. Its standard 0–100% time is approximately 4 hours 20 minutes, while the optional quick charger reduces the stated time to approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Those are full-charge figures and depend on battery temperature and the charging capacity available.
The current DX page gives a shorter 5–6 hour figure for its lithium-ion configuration and 10–11 hours for VRLA. The 2018 brochure’s 8–12 hour range belongs to the earlier vehicle. If your parking space has no safe electrical outlet, neither scooter’s published range solves the problem; verify where the charger can be installed and whether the outlet is approved for the vehicle.

Questions to ask before delivery
- Which battery chemistry and capacity are installed?
- Is the quoted charging time for a full 0–100% charge or a partial top-up?
- What charger model is supplied, and can it be used on your available AC circuit?
- What happens if charging is interrupted by heat, a tripped breaker or a fault?
- Is the charger covered by the same warranty as the vehicle?
Price and availability
The current YObykes product page displayed a price of ₹67,500 when accessed in 2026. That is a volatile display price, not a guaranteed on-road amount; taxes, registration, delivery and local fees may change the total. The page also permits different battery configurations, so confirm which pack is included in the quoted price.

BMW Rent A Ride provides CE 04 rental information, but the supplied evidence does not provide a matched current purchase price for the CE 04. A rental rate cannot be used as a purchase-price comparison with the DX. Ask an authorised BMW outlet for the current price, registration costs, charger options and delivery timing in your market.
Availability is equally important. Verify that the exact model, battery variant, replacement battery and service support are offered in your area. YObykes states that specifications may change without notice, and local inventory can differ from the online page.

Choose the CE 04 when speed and route flexibility come first
- Your regular roads require speeds well above 25 km/h.
- You need the ability to merge into faster urban traffic.
- You value the BMW’s higher output and 120 km/h electronically limited top speed.
- You can charge from an appropriate AC supply and accept a larger, more performance-oriented scooter.
- The higher purchase and operating commitment fits your budget, after obtaining a local quote.
The CE 04’s 130 km WMTC claim for the standard version and 100 km claim for the reduced-power version give it a different travel envelope from the DX. They remain test-cycle figures, so plan conservatively for traffic, temperature, load and battery age.

- You can charge overnight and do not need rapid turnaround.
- The displayed ₹67,500 price, subject to local confirmation, is closer to your budget than a premium high-output scooter.
- You prefer a choice of VRLA or lithium-ion configuration and can verify the implications of each.
- A local dealer can support the exact battery version you are buying.
The DX can be a sensible urban tool when its speed ceiling matches the route. It is not a lower-cost substitute for the CE 04 if your requirement is high-speed travel; it belongs to a different performance category.

Payload, weight and fit: information you still need
The supplied official pages do not provide a directly comparable payload or vehicle-weight figure for both models. Do not infer carrying capacity from motor wattage or battery size. Ask each seller for kerb weight, maximum permissible mass, rider-and-luggage limit, seat height and wheel or tyre specifications for the exact market version.
Check those limits with your normal load: rider, passenger if permitted, luggage and any accessories. A scooter that meets the range claim unloaded may have a different result when carrying more mass, climbing a grade or running in hot weather.
A practical buying checklist
- Write down your route. Record the fastest road, longest round trip, hills, traffic pattern and places where charging is possible.
- Match the speed class. Reject the DX for a route that routinely requires more than its 25 km/h maximum. Consider the CE 04 only if its higher-speed capability is appropriate and permitted where you ride.
- Identify the exact model. Ensure the paperwork says Yo Edge DX if that is what you intend to buy; do not accept an older YO EDGE brochure as proof of current specifications.
- Confirm the battery. Have the dealer write down VRLA or lithium-ion, voltage, amp-hour rating and the warranty terms.
- Confirm charging. Check the supplied charger, outlet requirements and realistic full-charge time for your battery and ambient conditions. For the CE 04, verify whether the quoted vehicle includes the standard or optional quick charger.
- Get a complete price. Request the on-road total, delivery estimate, registration costs and any charger or battery options in writing.
- Check support. Ask where diagnostics, battery replacement and software or controller service will be performed.
- Test the actual vehicle. A test ride can reveal seating position, braking feel, steering weight and low-speed balance that specifications cannot.
How to interpret the manufacturer claims
BMW’s CE 04 numbers come from its current official specification, including WMTC range and authority-model battery data. YObykes’ 25 km/h, 250 W and “up to 80 km” figures come from the current Edge DX product page. The 70 km and 8–12 hour figures come from a March 2018 legacy brochure. Each source describes a particular configuration and date; none establishes real-world range for every rider.
There is no named independent study or laboratory head-to-head test in the available evidence. Treat the comparison as a specification and suitability analysis. Before ordering, recheck the manufacturer page and local dealer documents because price, battery options and specifications can change.

A rider who never exceeds 25 km/h may gain little from the CE 04’s extra output, while a rider on faster roads cannot solve a speed mismatch with the DX’s lower price. Route, charging access, exact battery, local rules and the final on-road price decide which scooter is better for you.
