The rumored cabin technology sounds more significant than the expected exterior changes, but those details remain unconfirmed.
When could the refreshed BMW 5 Series arrive?
BMWBlog reported on August 31, 2026, that production of refreshed G60 5 Series sedans and G61 Touring models is expected to start around July 2027, corresponding to the 2028 model year in the United States. BMW has not confirmed the timing or the reported changes, and the report says the details could change. Production timing is not the same as a market launch or the date a particular country will receive cars.
For context, BMW announced the eighth-generation 5 Series in May 2023 and said its market launch would begin in October 2023. That launch history does not establish when a facelifted version will go on sale. BMW Group’s 2023 announcement covers the original generation launch.

Exterior: expected to be a mild update
BMWBlog describes a comparatively restrained exterior refresh, with most of the body expected to carry over. The report mentions a possibly reshaped rear bumper and revised taillight graphics. Cabin: more substantial technology rumors
The same report says the cabin could adopt iDrive X and Panoramic Vision, with an optional passenger display also under consideration. It further reports that the rotary iDrive controller may be removed. BMWBlog compares the rumored arrangement with the iX3’s 14.9-inch center display and windshield-spanning Panoramic Vision; that comparison does not establish that the 5 Series will receive those exact components or specifications.
BMW has separately said that Neue Klasse technologies will roll out across its vehicle portfolio by the end of 2027, regardless of drive type. That is broad strategy, not confirmation of the specific 5 Series features reported above. BMW’s Neue Klasse overview provides that portfolio-level context.

BMW USA currently lists the 2027 5 Series Sedan. Its lineup is specific to the United States and can change by model year, configuration, and availability; it should not be treated as a global trim list.

BMW’s original 2023 launch announcement described an all-electric i5 joining the range alongside combustion and plug-in hybrid offerings that vary by market. Should you wait or buy the current model?
The choice depends on whether you need a car within a particular ordering window or would rather wait for features that are only rumored. A production start around July 2027 does not tell buyers when a refreshed car will reach their market or a local dealer.
