There is no defensible overall winner from the currently verified UK information. BMW publishes current figures for several 2 Series Gran Coupé versions, while the corresponding current Škoda Octavia vRS specification, equipment list and price are not established here. The fair comparison therefore depends on identifying the Octavia vRS model year and matching it with the right BMW: the 170-hp front-wheel-drive 220 M Sport or the very different 300-hp all-wheel-drive M235 xDrive.
This guide sets out the BMW data that can be checked now, explains why the variants must not be mixed, and gives you a precise checklist for completing a like-for-like purchase comparison in the UK.

What the two names actually cover
“BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé” is a body style and model range, not one single powertrain. BMW UK’s current technical information distinguishes the 220 M Sport from the M235 xDrive Gran Coupé. Their outputs, driven wheels, acceleration and luggage capacities differ materially.

In the UK, Škoda generally styles its performance Octavia as “vRS,” although the question uses “RS.” Confirm the country, model year and exact trim before comparing brochures, because equipment, engines, emissions data and prices can change between markets and production updates.

The figures below are manufacturer specifications. They are useful for identifying the cars and building a shortlist, but they are not independent road-test results and do not predict every owner’s fuel consumption or acceleration.
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: the verified UK specifications
BMW 220 M Sport Gran Coupé
- Powertrain: 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
- Maximum system output: 170 hp.
- Driven wheels: front-wheel drive.
- Transmission: seven-speed automatic.
- 0–62 mph: 7.9 seconds.
- Luggage capacity: 360 litres.
- Combined fuel consumption: 51.4–53.3 mpg under the WLTP test cycle.
These are BMW UK figures for the configuration shown on its current technical-data page, accessed in 2026. The 51.4–53.3 mpg range is a standardized laboratory result; traffic, temperature, wheel choice, journey length, payload and driving style can all produce different real-world figures. BMW’s cited page does not establish a torque figure for this specification, so one should not be filled in from a different engine or market.
BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé
- Maximum output: 300 hp.
- Torque: 400 Nm.
- Driven wheels: all-wheel drive (xDrive).
- 0–62 mph: 4.9 seconds.
- Luggage capacity: 430 litres.
BMW lists the M235 xDrive as a distinct high-performance version. The sourced BMW technical page does not provide the complete set of transmission and consumption details needed for a full table against the 220 M Sport. Most importantly, the M235’s 300 hp, all-wheel drive and 4.9-second acceleration put it in a substantially different performance and price class from the 220 M Sport. It must not be presented as the normal 2 Series Gran Coupé when comparing it with an Octavia vRS.

BMW describes the 2 Series Gran Coupé as a four-door model. “Gran Coupé” does not mean a two-door coupé: it is BMW’s name for this low-roof, four-door layout. The published luggage figures are 360 litres for the 220 M Sport and 430 litres for the M235 xDrive. They are BMW’s stated capacities; they do not by themselves show which car is easier to load, how much space remains with passengers aboard, or how the boot compares with an Octavia vRS.
Why a winner cannot be named yet
A balanced verdict requires current information for both cars in the same market and, ideally, the same model year. The available UK evidence establishes BMW’s figures above but does not establish a current Octavia vRS price, engine output, torque, acceleration, WLTP consumption, CO₂ rating, boot capacity, warranty terms, service pricing or standard equipment.
That gap matters because “Octavia vRS” can refer to different body styles, engines and production years. A previous-generation car, a new-facelift car, a hatchback and an estate may all be described casually as an RS or vRS while having different specifications. Without the exact Škoda UK model-year data, declaring one car faster, cheaper, more economical, roomier or better equipped would be speculation.

- Protection Function: Our car cup holder coaster has a carry handle design and a stand-up ring edge on its edge to effectively prevent food crumbs, drinks and water from leaking out and preventing the car cup holder from getting dirty.Meanwhile,Thickened design effectively prevents the cup holder from being scratched by the cup when driving on bumpy roads and eliminates the annoying thumping sound, making your journey more enjoyable.
- Easy to Use and Clean: With embedded installation, you just need to put it flat on the car cupholder. It is also very quick to remove, there is a small bump on the coaster, pinch it and you can easily remove the coaster. It is very easy to clean, rinse with water or wipe with a wet towel (be careful not to clean with sharp tools).
- 100% Satisfaction: Our products have quality assurance, if you have questions or are not satisfied after receiving the product, don't worry, please contact us as soon as possible, we provide after-sales service.
The BMW side also needs a precise match. Comparing an Octavia vRS with the 220 M Sport may be a sensible mainstream-performance exercise; comparing it with the M235 xDrive is a high-performance comparison with a clear power and drivetrain mismatch. State the mismatch explicitly if you examine both BMW versions.

Use the following checks with an official Škoda UK specification for the exact vRS you can order or buy. Record the BMW and Škoda figures from the same type of document, rather than combining a current BMW page with an old used-car listing.
- On-the-road price: record the live UK price, destination or delivery charges, registration fees, options and any finance conditions. BMW’s historical launch price is not a current quote.
- Power and torque: compare the exact engine outputs and the units used. Do not infer torque from a badge or from another market.
- Acceleration: use each manufacturer’s stated 0–62 mph time and note whether the figure belongs to a particular transmission, wheel or optional pack.
- Driven wheels and transmission: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and different automatic or manual gearboxes change traction, responsiveness, running costs and winter behaviour.
- Fuel consumption and CO₂: compare WLTP combined figures and the test-cycle CO₂ value for the selected configuration. Treat both as standardized comparisons, not promises of real-world economy.
- Boot and loading: check litres, opening shape, rear-seat split, loading lip, under-floor storage and whether the figure applies to a hatchback or estate.
- Rear accommodation: sit behind your normal driving position and check headroom, knee room, door opening and access to child-seat anchors.
- Standard equipment: list driver-assistance systems, adaptive or matrix lighting, parking cameras and sensors, heated seats, climate control, navigation, smartphone integration and charging hardware. A feature included on one trim may be an option on another.
- Warranty and servicing: obtain the current UK warranty duration, mileage limits, servicing schedule, roadside assistance and any prepaid maintenance terms for both cars.
- Availability: confirm whether the specification is factory order, dealer stock, a run-out model or a used car. Delivery timing can change the relevant price and equipment.
Performance: how to interpret the BMW numbers
The 220 M Sport is the everyday BMW baseline
With 170 hp, front-wheel drive, a seven-speed automatic and a quoted 7.9-second 0–62 mph time, the 220 M Sport is the BMW configuration that should anchor a normal compact performance comparison. Its mild-hybrid system is part of the stated powertrain, and its official combined economy range is 51.4–53.3 mpg.
Those numbers describe a relatively accessible version of the range rather than a full performance flagship. A buyer considering an Octavia vRS should ask whether the Škoda’s output and acceleration are intended to match this BMW’s everyday pace or to challenge the M235’s much quicker specification.
The M235 xDrive changes the question
The M235 xDrive’s 300 hp, 400 Nm, all-wheel drive and 4.9-second 0–62 mph time make it a different proposition. All-wheel drive can improve traction during hard launches and in poor conditions, but it also adds mechanical complexity and may affect weight, tyre costs and fuel consumption. The 430-litre BMW boot figure applies to this version, not the 220 M Sport’s 360 litres.
If you include the M235, label it as the high-performance alternative and compare its price, insurance group, tyres, brakes and standard equipment separately. Do not use its acceleration or luggage capacity as though they represented every 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Practicality: what the published boot figures do and do not tell you
The 220 M Sport’s published luggage capacity is 360 litres, while BMW lists 430 litres for the M235 xDrive. A larger nominal volume does not automatically mean a more useful family load area. Check the shape of the opening, the distance from the sill to the floor, the width between wheel arches and whether the rear seats fold flat.
For a fair Octavia vRS check, identify the body style first. A hatchback and an estate can have different boot measurements and different rear-seat usability even when they share a badge. Bring the items you actually carry—pushchair, dog crate, work case or sports equipment—to a dealer and test them rather than relying only on litres.
Rear-seat comfort should be assessed with the front seat set for the tallest regular driver. Check whether adults can enter without ducking excessively, whether a rear-facing child seat leaves usable front-seat travel, and whether the centre position is practical. No sourced Octavia vRS dimension is available here, so a BMW boot figure cannot be converted into a claim that BMW is more or less practical.

Price: use the BMW launch figure correctly
BMW Group UK announced a launch price of £34,915 on the road for the second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupé, with first customer deliveries from March 2025. That statement is historical launch context, not a verified 2026 selling price. It may exclude later changes to specification, taxes, options, dealer charges or finance offers.
Before comparing costs, obtain a current written quote for the exact BMW variant and the exact Octavia vRS. Record the date, vehicle price, mandatory charges, metallic paint, wheel upgrades, technology packs, service plans and finance deposit. Compare cash on-the-road totals separately from monthly finance payments: a lower monthly figure can reflect a larger deposit, a longer term or a final balloon payment.
Ownership cost also extends beyond the list price. Ask insurers for quotations using the precise registration or vehicle derivative, obtain service-plan prices, and check replacement-tyre sizes. The M235’s performance hardware may make consumables more expensive than those for a 220 M Sport, but the available information does not establish a complete cost schedule.

Equipment and technology: build a feature-by-feature list
Trim names such as M Sport and vRS communicate a design and performance position, not a universal equipment list. A fair comparison should use the current UK order guides or specification sheets for the cars you can actually buy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCreate three columns in your own worksheet: standard on BMW, standard on Škoda and optional or unavailable. Check adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, blind-spot monitoring, emergency braking, parking sensors, a reversing camera, head-up display, navigation, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, heated seats, electric tailgate operation and the number of USB-C ports. Record whether a system is bundled in a pack, because an apparently cheaper car can require expensive options to reach the same specification.
During a demonstration drive, test the infotainment with your phone, adjust the driver display, find the heating controls without looking away from the road and verify that assistance warnings are understandable. Screenshots in an advertisement do not establish which software version or hardware is fitted to a particular stock car.
A step-by-step method for making the comparison fair
- Define the purchase: write down UK market, new or used status, body style, model year, gearbox preference, annual mileage and whether four-wheel traction is genuinely needed.
- Select one BMW baseline: use the 220 M Sport for a mainstream comparison, or the M235 xDrive for a high-performance comparison. Keep the second BMW as a separate alternative rather than blending the figures.
- Obtain the Octavia vRS document: use the official Škoda UK page or a dated dealer specification for the exact year and body style. Save the document with its publication date.
- Normalize units: compare horsepower with horsepower, Nm with Nm, mph with mph and UK mpg with UK mpg. Check whether a fuel figure is combined WLTP and whether a price is on-the-road.
- Price identical equipment: add options required to match safety, parking, lighting, climate and connectivity equipment. Include paint, wheels and delivery charges.
- Check physical fit: measure your garage, test child seats and load your regular luggage in both cars.
- Drive both on the same route: include urban traffic, a motorway, a rough surface and a safe stretch for joining speed. Evaluate visibility, ride, steering, brake feel, gearbox behaviour and noise, not just acceleration.
- Request running-cost evidence: obtain insurance, servicing, tyre and tax information for the exact derivatives before signing an order.
- Write the verdict with conditions: state which car suits which priority and identify any assumption that could change the result.
Common comparison mistakes
Mixing model years
A current BMW page beside an old Octavia vRS advertisement can produce a false price or equipment advantage. Put the model year beside every figure in your notes and discard data that cannot be dated.
Calling the M235 a standard 2 Series
The M235 xDrive is listed at 300 hp and 4.9 seconds to 62 mph, whereas the 220 M Sport is listed at 170 hp and 7.9 seconds. Presenting those as one BMW specification makes any Octavia comparison misleading.
Treating WLTP as a guarantee
The 220 M Sport’s 51.4–53.3 mpg is a combined WLTP range. It is appropriate for standardized comparison but cannot promise the same result on a short cold commute, a motorway journey at high speed or a fully loaded trip.

Using launch pricing as today’s price
The £34,915 BMW figure belongs to the 2024 launch announcement for deliveries from March 2025. Verify live pricing and offers before using it in a buying decision.
Assuming a badge proves equipment
M Sport and vRS branding does not remove the need to check the build sheet. Safety systems, cameras, lights, seats and technology can vary by market, year and option pack.
Declaring a practicality winner from litres alone
BMW’s 360-litre and 430-litre figures are useful reference points, but they do not establish the Octavia’s capacity or loading convenience. Test the actual cars with your own cargo.
Which BMW makes sense for which buyer?
Choose the 220 M Sport as the BMW reference when
- You want the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupé with front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox.
- A 170-hp system output and 7.9-second manufacturer acceleration target are appropriate for your driving.
- You value the published 51.4–53.3 mpg WLTP range and can accept that real-world consumption will vary.
- The 360-litre BMW luggage figure meets your needs after a physical loading test.
Consider the M235 xDrive only as a separate performance choice when
- You specifically want 300 hp, 400 Nm, all-wheel drive and the quoted 4.9-second 0–62 mph time.
- You are prepared to compare a higher performance and equipment class rather than a conventional compact vRS rival.
- The 430-litre BMW luggage capacity and likely performance-related running costs fit your priorities.
When the Octavia vRS should be shortlisted
Shortlist the Octavia only after confirming its current UK model-year engine, body style, price, equipment and official data. Once those facts are in hand, choose according to the priority that matters most—purchase cost, acceleration, passenger space, load carrying, economy, warranty or technology—rather than assuming the badge alone settles the decision.
What to verify at the dealer
- Ask for the vehicle identification or derivative code and confirm it matches the advertised engine and drivetrain.
- Check the printed build specification for every option included in the quoted price.
- Measure boot access and rear-seat space with your own equipment.
- Confirm the warranty start date, mileage limit, servicing intervals and roadside-assistance period in writing.
- Request a total on-the-road price dated the same day as the order.
- Confirm delivery timing and whether the car is a current production model or remaining stock.
Bottom line on the evidence available
The verified BMW information supports two very different reference cars: a 170-hp, front-wheel-drive 220 M Sport with a 7.9-second 0–62 mph time, 360-litre boot and 51.4–53.3 mpg WLTP range; and a 300-hp, 400-Nm, all-wheel-drive M235 xDrive with a 4.9-second time and 430-litre boot. BMW’s £34,915 on-the-road figure is a dated launch price from 2024, tied to first deliveries from March 2025.
Because current UK Octavia vRS specifications and pricing are not established alongside those BMW figures, the responsible conclusion is a method rather than a winner: identify the exact vRS, match it to either the 220 or M235, verify live prices and equipment, then test the cars with your own passengers and luggage.
