The Bimobil EX 435 is an expedition motorhome built on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4023. The combination pairs a purpose-built living cabin with a chassis designed for demanding terrain: Mercedes-Benz lists portal axles and up to 1.2 m of fording depth for the U 4023, while its EX 435 exhibit sheet describes a 9.8-tonne completed vehicle. The cabin figures most often available in the cited brochure date to August 2016, so they are a useful specification snapshot—not a guarantee of what a current or used example includes.
What is the Bimobil EX 435 based on?
The EX 435 is a bimobil expedition motorhome built on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4023 chassis. Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks describes its displayed EX 435/U 4023 combination as intended for worldwide long-distance and expedition travel. That is the manufacturer’s stated purpose, not an independent assessment of where a particular vehicle can safely travel.
For the specific exhibit, Mercedes-Benz lists a length of 7,000 mm, width of 2,480 mm, height of 3,600 mm and wheelbase of 3,850 mm, with a permissible gross weight of 9.8 tonnes. Those are completed-vehicle figures for the described exhibit, rather than dimensions guaranteed for every EX 435 build. Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks’ EX 435 exhibit sheet
How capable is the Unimog U 4023?
The U 4023 is the EX 435’s base platform. Mercedes-Benz’s product sheet lists an OM 934 LA Euro VI engine producing 170 kW/231 hp and 900 Nm at 2,200 rpm, paired with a UG 100/8 transmission. The separate EX 435 exhibit sheet reports 170 kW/231 PS, 900 Nm and a 5,132 cm³ OM 934 four-cylinder diesel for that displayed combination. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Mercedes-Benz Unimog product sheet Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks’ EX 435 exhibit sheet

The Unimog sheet includes figures for both U 4023 and U 5023; the numbers above refer to the U 4023 and should not be mixed with the larger model’s specifications. It also lists a maximum mounting area of 4,100 × 2,280 × 1,400 mm for the U 4023 chassis, which describes the base platform rather than the finished motorhome’s interior.
What does the EX 435 cabin include?
Bimobil’s August 2016 brochure gives a detailed snapshot of the cabin and its systems. Equipment and layout may differ on newer builds or an individual used vehicle, so check the specific example’s documentation and fittings. Bimobil EX 435 brochure, August 2016

The water capacity and diesel heating point to a cabin designed for extended travel, but capacity alone does not establish how long a vehicle can remain self-sufficient. Consumption, weather, occupants and the equipment fitted to a particular example all affect practical range between services or resupply.
How much payload does it have?
The August 2016 brochure lists a maximum technically permitted mass of 9,800 kg, mass in running order of 7,750 kg and payload of 2,050 kg. It defines running order as including the complete standard vehicle, driver, full fuel, water and gas at 90%, a full water boiler and the electrical hookup cable. It also warns that options add weight and can reduce payload or the number of passengers permitted. The brochure gives a permitted roof load of 200 kg and says weights and dimensions are subject to ±5% tolerance. Bimobil EX 435 brochure, August 2016

Do not treat the brochure’s 2,050 kg as the spare carrying capacity of every EX 435. Optional equipment, occupants, accessories and trip gear all count against the actual vehicle’s limits. For a purchase or trip plan, use the individual vehicle’s registration and weight records and establish its as-built weight with the equipment and fluids it will carry.

- Check real payload: Account for installed options, passengers, water, fuel, spare parts and personal gear against the vehicle’s permitted mass and axle limits.
- Verify seats and berths: The 2016 brochure’s seating and sleeping figures are a dated configuration reference, not confirmation of the layout in a specific vehicle.
- Assess the living systems for your itinerary: Consider water storage, heating, refrigeration and battery capacity alongside the route’s resupply and service opportunities.
- Match capability to the route: Fording depth and off-road equipment are manufacturer specifications; route conditions, vehicle loading and driver judgment still govern what is appropriate.
