For a small, affordable hatchback, consider the Fit; for a sedan, the Civic and Accord Hybrid have strong long-mileage results; and among SUVs, the HR-V, Pilot and CR-V each have evidence-backed cases. The right choice still depends on the specific car’s maintenance history, condition and recall status.
Which used Honda lasts the longest?
There is no single answer for every buyer: one study measures the modeled likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles, while another compares used-car prices with expected remaining life. Neither predicts how long an individual vehicle will last. iSeeCars’ 2026 longevity study analyzed almost 400 million used-car odometer readings; its estimates describe model populations, not a promise about a particular car. The study also cautions that leading a segment does not necessarily mean a high absolute chance of reaching 250,000 miles. Across all vehicles in the study, excluding heavy-duty vehicles, the modeled chance was 5.4%.
| Model | Body style | Modeled chance of reaching 250,000 miles | Useful context |

| HR-V | Subcompact SUV | 17.6% | Highest-ranked Honda subcompact SUV in that study |
| Civic | Compact car | 15.0% | Sixth among passenger cars and leader of the compact-car category |
| Pilot | Three-row SUV | 14.3% | Included among the study’s long-lived models |
| Ridgeline | Pickup | 13.7% | Included among the study’s long-lived models |
| CR-V | Compact SUV | 12.7% | Leader of the compact-SUV category in the published segment table |

Best used Honda models to consider
Honda Fit: best value case in the available five-year-old data
The Fit is a small hatchback worth considering if space efficiency and purchase value matter more than SUV size. In iSeeCars’ 2026 used-car-for-the-money comparison, a five-year-old Fit had an average list price of $18,445 and an expected remaining lifespan of 10.9 years, or $1,693 per expected remaining year. It ranked first for value among the five-year-old vehicles in that comparison. The price data covered one-to-five-year-old vehicles sold from July through December 2025, so the average is historical, not a current listing quote.

Honda Civic: a strong compact-car choice
The Civic’s modeled chance of reaching 250,000 miles was 15.0% in iSeeCars’ 2026 study. Its separate reliability page estimates an average lifespan of 183,603 miles, or about 16.1 years, and reports a 39.7% chance of reaching at least 200,000 miles during usable life. These figures use different measures and should not be treated as interchangeable. For five-year-old cars, iSeeCars’ 2026 value study reported a $19,958 average list price and 9.6 expected remaining years.
The available generation data do not establish a definitive best Civic generation. Choose based on the individual car’s records, inspection and price rather than assuming a particular generation is proven superior.

Honda Accord Hybrid: strongest passenger-car result in this shortlist
The Accord Hybrid posted an 18.5% modeled chance of reaching 250,000 miles in iSeeCars’ 2026 study, ranking third among passenger cars and third among hybrids. That makes it an appealing option for shoppers who want a midsize sedan and value the study’s long-mileage signal. The probability does not guarantee the lifespan of a specific hybrid; check its service history and have the vehicle inspected before buying.
Honda HR-V: a subcompact SUV with a strong study result
The HR-V had a 17.6% modeled chance of reaching 250,000 miles in the same study, the highest result among Honda subcompact SUVs. It is a candidate for buyers seeking a smaller SUV rather than a hatchback or sedan. The statistic is a model-level estimate, so it cannot replace condition checks on the exact vehicle.

It appears among the long-lived models, though its result is lower than those of the Accord Hybrid, HR-V and Civic in the listed Honda comparison. Its larger-SUV format may suit buyers whose passenger or cargo needs rule out smaller Hondas.
Honda CR-V: practical compact SUV, with year guidance
The CR-V had a 12.7% modeled chance of reaching 250,000 miles in iSeeCars’ 2026 study. Its reliability page estimates an average lifespan of 185,137 miles, or about 16 years, and a 40.3% chance of reaching at least 200,000 miles during usable life. That page reports an 8.9 generation reliability rating for 2017–2022, while noting that ratings for several other generations are unavailable because of insufficient data.

Edmunds’ recommendations, reproduced by AP News in 2024, identify 2012–2016 CR-Vs as small-SUV used-car choices. The recommendation was made in the context of vehicles under $15,000 at the time; that is not a current price guarantee. Edmunds describes the CR-V as practical and easy to drive and park, with optional all-wheel drive; the model was redesigned in 2012 and updated in 2015.

Which used Honda years are worth shortlisting?
Edmunds’ used-vehicle recommendations, presented by AP News in 2024, name the 2013–2017 Accord as a midsize-car choice and the 2012–2016 CR-V as a small-SUV choice. The article was framed around used vehicles under $15,000 at that time; it should not be read as a present-day budget or as proof that every car in those years is reliable. For the Accord, the recommendations include four-cylinder and V6 versions and note that a hybrid joined the lineup in 2014.
Use those year ranges as a starting point, not a substitute for inspecting the exact vehicle. Confirm the engine, transmission and service history for the specific listing, and compare its condition with other cars in your budget.
Quick Recap
How to check a used Honda before you buy
- Review service records. Ask for maintenance receipts or a service history, then compare the work and intervals with the correct model-year owner’s manual and Honda maintenance information. Honda’s service and maintenance resources include manuals and maintenance guidance.
- Arrange a qualified pre-purchase inspection. Have a mechanic assess the specific vehicle, not just the model’s reputation. Honda says its multipoint inspection can identify tires, brakes and battery that may need attention; an independent pre-purchase inspection gives you a vehicle-specific assessment.
- Check recalls by VIN. Enter the vehicle’s 17-character VIN in Honda’s recall lookup to check for incomplete safety recalls tied to that vehicle. Honda says dealer safety recall repairs are free. Its recall page covers recalls announced in the prior 15 calendar years, so older vehicles may require additional checking. A year, make and model search gives general recall information and may not show whether a specific car has an outstanding repair.
- Weigh condition over ranking. A neglected example of a highly ranked model can be a worse choice than a carefully maintained car with a lower study probability. Use the statistics to narrow your search, then decide from records, inspection findings and the asking price.
How to choose among these Hondas
- Choose the Fit if a small hatchback suits your needs and value is a priority; it is the strongest value case in the cited five-year-old comparison.
- Choose the Civic for a compact car with favorable longevity measures and a 15.0% modeled 250,000-mile probability.
- Choose the Accord Hybrid if you want a midsize sedan and prioritize the highest listed passenger-car probability in this Honda comparison.
- Choose the HR-V if you want a smaller SUV with the strongest Honda subcompact-SUV probability in the study.
- Choose the Pilot if your needs call for a larger SUV, while recognizing that its modeled probability is lower than the leading models listed here.
- Choose the CR-V for a practical compact SUV, especially if the 2012–2016 year guidance fits your budget and the individual car checks out.
