Here, “drawbar hitch” means the removable receiver ball mount, also called a hitch bar or drawbar. It slides into the receiver attached to the vehicle and is secured with a pin and clip; the ball mount carries or accepts the trailer ball. It is not the receiver hitch installed on the vehicle. How to choose the right drawbar
Match the shank to the receiver
The ball mount’s shank must fit the vehicle’s receiver opening. The 45836, 45830, and 45034 entries above specify a 2-inch receiver fit or shank; do not assume your receiver is 2 inches. Check the receiver label, vehicle manual, or manufacturer’s fit information. A pin and clip secure the inserted mount, but the pin does not make an otherwise mismatched shank fit safely.
Match the ball to the trailer coupler
Ball diameter must match the coupler specification. The listed 45836 comes with a 2-inch ball, while the 45034 comes with a 1-7/8-inch ball. A 1-7/8-inch ball is suitable only for a compatible coupler; the same rule applies to any other ball size. If choosing a separate ball for a mount such as the 45830, also check that its shank diameter and length suit the mount.

Choose the drop or rise that levels the trailer
Ball height matters as much as receiver fit. Compare the height of the vehicle’s receiver with the trailer coupler when the trailer is level, then select a mount with the needed rise or drop. The 45836 and 45034 are listed with a 2-inch drop; the 45830 has a 2-inch drop and 3/4-inch rise. Those figures alone do not establish that a model will level your particular trailer.
Check every weight limit
A mount’s listed capacity is not permission to tow that weight with every vehicle. The vehicle, receiver, ball mount, ball, and trailer all have limits; the complete setup must stay within the lowest applicable rating and the vehicle maker’s towing limits. CURT advises matching the hitch rating to both the truck’s towing capacity and the trailer’s total weight, and warns that exceeding limits can reduce control and damage the vehicle: CURT truck-hitch guidance.

For the CURT 45836 and 45830, the catalog lists 7,500 pounds; for the 45034, it lists 3,500 pounds. These are listed product capacities, not a rating for your whole vehicle-and-trailer combination. Check the manufacturer’s rating for each component and the vehicle’s towing limits before use.

What to verify before buying
- Identify the vehicle and receiver. Use the vehicle maker’s manual and CURT’s fit guidance to look up the year, make, model, and, where needed, submodel. Confirm the receiver opening and its ratings. CURT’s vehicle and towing information notes that a receiver by itself does not connect a trailer; the setup also needs appropriate accessories such as a ball mount and trailer ball.
- Read the trailer coupler marking. Confirm the required ball diameter and the trailer’s weight information; do not choose a ball based on the mount’s receiver size.
- Work out the height requirement. Measure or otherwise determine the rise or drop needed for the coupled trailer to sit level. Select a mount whose geometry suits that requirement.
- Compare the complete set of ratings. Check the vehicle’s towing limit and the ratings for the receiver, mount, ball, and trailer. Keep within the lowest applicable limit.
- Confirm what the listing includes. Check whether the ball and pin/clip are included, and verify ball-shank compatibility if buying the ball separately. Confirm the exact model number, current seller, price, and item contents on the retailer’s live listing.
Which option makes sense?
- For a 2-inch receiver and compatible 2-inch coupler: the CURT 45836 is the clearest listed under-$100 candidate because the catalog identifies it as a mounted ball mount with a 2-inch ball and pin. Its 2-inch drop still needs to suit your trailer height, and its 7,500-pound listing does not override lower component or vehicle limits.
- If you already have a compatible ball: the CURT 45830 is a lower displayed-price fixed mount with a listed 2-inch receiver fit and both 2-inch drop and 3/4-inch rise. The cited listing identifies it as a ball mount, not a loaded mount with a ball, so check the ball and pin/clip details before purchase.
- If your coupler specifically requires a 1-7/8-inch ball: the CURT 45034 is listed with that ball and a 2-inch shank, but its catalog-listed capacity is 3,500 pounds. Confirm the receiver fit, height, and all towing limits before selecting it.
