Start with your exact vehicle, then compare what each maker claims about coverage, clearance, construction, finish, and installation. Treat these as manufacturer specifications—not independent durability or impact tests.
How to choose steel fender flares
Confirm the vehicle match before comparing features. Check the model year, generation, body style, trim, whether the kit covers the front, rear, or both, and exactly what parts are included. A product described as a fender assembly may include more than a flare; a rear tube-fender pair may require separate corner protection.
- Coverage and clearance: Keep the maker’s stated measurement and context attached. Tire diameter, flare width, and added clearance are different specifications.
- Construction: Compare tube diameter and wall thickness, plate thickness, and whether the part is a tube-and-plate design or a formed assembly. Those details alone do not prove which product is more durable.
- Finish and mounting: Check whether the parts arrive coated or unfinished, what hardware is included, and whether the instructions call for bolt-on installation, nutserts, or optional welding.
All options below are tied to specific applications. Verify current fitment and instructions with the seller before ordering.
Steel flare and fender options by vehicle
| Product | Listed fitment | Construction and stated coverage or clearance | Finish and installation notes |

| Ford-listed Husky Liners steel Bronco flares | 2021–2026 Ford Bronco, two-door or four-door; excludes Raptor, Everglades, Heritage, and Heritage Limited. | Ford’s listing describes heavy-duty steel. No width or tire-clearance figure is stated. | Black powder coat and corrosion-resistant quick-release hardware, per Ford’s listing. The listing says the flares can be removed for tight off-road trails. Ford product listing |
| Rough Country steel flat flares | Jeep Wrangler JK (2007–2018); confirm the specific year and trim on the product page. | 5/32-inch steel with 1.25-inch tubing. Rough Country lists 8 inches of front and 5 inches of rear tire coverage. | Satin black finish. Rough Country recommends a nutsert tool for easier installation. Rough Country product listing |
| GenRight TFR-1000 steel rear tube fenders | Jeep CJ, YJ, TJ, and LJ; rear pair. | Four inches wide, with 1.5-inch-diameter tubing (.120-inch wall) and 1/8-inch steel plate. GenRight says the fenders fit up to a 40-inch tire. | Supplied unpainted; GenRight recommends fitting before painting or powder coating. Bolt-on installation; may be mounted to the body or atop corner-guard armor. Corner guards are not included. GenRight product listing |
| Rusty’s XJ Cherokee steel high-clearance front flares, RA-MF501-XJ | Jeep Cherokee XJ; listed item is a front pair. | 1/8-inch body panels and a 3/16-inch flare portion. Rusty’s states 3.5 inches of additional tire clearance over stock. | Satin black powder coat and black stainless installation hardware. Bolt-on installation; no welding required, according to Rusty’s. Its description also mentions a rear slider tube on four-door models, but that does not change the listed item’s front-pair coverage. Rusty’s product listing |
| Mopar JPP High-Top Steel Fenders, 82216497AA | 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, four-door. | Front and rear steel fenders with wheel-well liners. Mopar says they provide clearance for 37-inch tires; that figure is not a flare-width measurement. | E-coat and powder-coat finish; Mopar says the finish is paintable. Mounting hardware is included, and installation is recommended on vehicles with steel bumpers. Production LED turn signals and daytime running lights remain in place, according to Mopar. Which option fits your vehicle?
For a 2021–2026 Ford Bronco
Consider the Ford-listed Husky Liners option only if your Bronco is not one of the excluded trims. Its listing highlights quick-release removability, but does not state a tire-clearance figure. Check the listing for the correct two-door or four-door version.

For a Wrangler JK
Rough Country’s flat flare kit is the listed JK-specific choice here. Its stated front and rear coverage figures describe tire coverage, not tire diameter. Review the page’s year and trim fitment before purchase, and follow its installation guidance about nutserts.
For older Jeep generations
GenRight lists its TFR-1000 as a rear tube-fender pair for CJ, YJ, TJ, and LJ models. Confirm how it will mount on your vehicle: the product can attach to the body or sit atop corner-guard armor, but the corner guards are separate. The stated fit for up to a 40-inch tire is the manufacturer’s claim, not a guarantee for every suspension or wheel setup.

For a Jeep Cherokee XJ
Rusty’s listed part is a front flare pair. Its 3.5-inch added-clearance figure is measured against stock, according to the manufacturer; it should not be compared directly with another product’s coverage width or maximum tire diameter.
For a four-door Wrangler Unlimited (2021–2025)
Mopar’s JPP High-Top option is a broader front-and-rear fender assembly with wheel-well liners, rather than a simple pair of standalone flares. Its listed fitment, 37-inch tire-clearance claim, included hardware, and steel-bumper installation recommendation are specific to this product.

- 【Precise JK & JKU Fitment】 — Designed for 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler JK 2-door and Wrangler Unlimited JKU 4-door models. IMPORTANT FOR 2018: Fits JK/JKU body style only; does NOT fit the newer 2018 Wrangler JL/JLU. Please confirm your Jeep body style before ordering
- 【Extra-Wide Wheel Coverage】 — Provides approximately 9.2 inches of front coverage and 5.2 inches of rear coverage to help reduce mud, rocks, sand and road debris thrown against the vehicle body. The wider profile also gives your Wrangler a bold, aggressive stance
- 【Strong Tubular Steel Design】 — Constructed with heavy-duty carbon steel, 1.5-inch steel tubing and approximately 0.06-inch wall thickness for excellent rigidity and durability. Reinforced mounting areas provide dependable support for daily driving and off-road environments
- 【Durable Textured Black Protection】 — Finished with an industrial-grade black powder coating approximately 120 μm thick to help protect exposed steel against rust, scratches, moisture and abrasion while complementing the rugged styling of the Wrangler JK/JKU
- Complete 4-Piece Exterior Upgrade】 — Includes 2 front and 2 rear steel fender flares with mounting hardware for a coordinated front-to-rear appearance. Vehicle-specific mounting points help provide a secure fit. Installation requirements may vary by vehicle configuration; review the instructions before installation
Installation and finish: what to check before ordering
Do not assume steel flares share mounting methods or arrive ready for use. GenRight says its pair is supplied unpainted and should be test-fitted before coating; it also allows optional welding to a steel corner guard. Rusty’s describes its XJ front pair as bolt-on with no welding required, while Rough Country recommends a nutsert tool for ease of installation. Ford and Mopar specify coated finishes, but the products still have distinct hardware and fitment requirements.
- Read the instructions for the exact part number and vehicle configuration.
- Confirm whether liners, corner guards, mounting hardware, and front or rear pieces are included.
- Check whether the fender requires test-fitting, drilling, nutserts, or any optional welding before finishing or installation.
- Verify current availability and price with the seller; listing information can change.
What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
The listed products use different designs and report different kinds of measurements: tire coverage, maximum tire diameter, or clearance added over stock. Those figures are not directly comparable. The cited product pages are manufacturer or official retailer listings, not independent head-to-head tests of impact resistance, corrosion life, or overall durability. Choose by verified fitment and the features you need, rather than treating a material thickness or clearance claim as a durability ranking.
