Those claims are not interchangeable, and the YM-833’s approval has not been independently verified against its label or an approval record.
Which Predator motorcycle helmet is safest?
No cited independent comparative test establishes that one Predator helmet is safer than another. A helmet’s name or styling cannot establish that it is approved for motorcycle use. First identify the exact model, then verify its approval for the country where you will ride.
The Frank Thomas UK retailer lists the YM-833 Predator as a full-face motorcycle helmet and claims it is certified to ECE R22.06. Treat that as a retailer-published claim, not an independently verified result: the available information does not match the claim to a physical helmet label or authoritative approval record. See the retailer’s YM-833 listing, and check the specific helmet’s markings and local requirements before buying.
What the YM-833 listing says
The retailer describes a matt-black full-face helmet with clear and black anti-scratch-treated visors, six air inlets and two exhausts, a removable washable comfort liner, and a micro-ratchet closure. These are product-listing details, not independent safety test results. The listing does not establish superior protection.

Is the Predator DH6-X Air a motorcycle helmet?
Predator Helmets describes the DH6-X Air as a full-face helmet, but its stated standards are CE-1078 and the CPSC bicycle helmet standard. Those are bicycle-related specifications; the manufacturer page does not establish motorcycle-road certification. Do not assume that this helmet is suitable or legal for motorcycle use because it is full-face or carries the Predator name.
The manufacturer lists a pre-preg carbon-fibre shell, EPS impact liner, removable mesh liner, clear and tinted visors, three cheek-pad thicknesses, a Fidlock Hook 20 buckle, a weight of 875 grams, and a one-size circumference range of 56–61 cm. It lists the price as $539. These are manufacturer specifications and retail details on its DH6-X Air product page, accessed October 5, 2026; they do not demonstrate motorcycle approval or comparative crash performance.

How to check motorcycle helmet approval in the United States
For U.S. riders, NHTSA says to look for the DOT symbol and the required certification label information: manufacturer or brand, model designation, DOT, FMVSS No. 218, and CERTIFIED. NHTSA does not approve helmets. Manufacturers self-certify compliance, while NHTSA tests some helmets and may issue recalls if a helmet fails the standard. Read NHTSA’s helmet guidance and verify the exact helmet you are considering.
NHTSA warns: “Novelty helmets are unsafe and will not protect you in the event of a crash. They should not be purchased and should not be worn while operating or riding on a motorcycle.” A DOT logo or a product-page statement alone should not substitute for checking the full required label and the helmet’s identity.

Outside the United States, check the motorcycle-helmet approval rules that apply where you ride. The retailer’s ECE R22.06 statement for the YM-833 is not independently verified here, so confirm the approval marking and model documentation rather than assuming the claim applies to every helmet sold under the Predator name.
How to get the right fit
Approval is only one part of choosing a helmet; it must also fit your head. NHTSA recommends measuring just above the eyebrows and around the thickest part at the back of the head, then comparing the result with the exact model’s size chart. The helmet should sit snugly and should not shift when you shake your head. Wear a new helmet for 30–45 minutes before riding to see whether pressure points develop.

Predator Helmets’ sizing guide gives the same basic measuring route—about 2.5 cm (1 inch) above the eyebrows and around the largest point at the back—and notes that head shape affects fit. Its sizes apply to that maker’s helmet models only; the DH6-X Air’s 56–61 cm range must not be used to choose a Frank Thomas YM-833 or another brand. The guide advises choosing the larger size and using fit pads when between sizes, and warns against using a damaged or improperly fitting helmet.

- Approval and model identity: Check the helmet’s own markings and documentation for the exact model and target market.
- Coverage and configuration: Confirm whether it is full-face and that its configuration suits your riding needs.
- Fit options: Use that model’s size chart; check available sizes, pads, and return terms.
- Visibility: Check included visor types and whether replacement visors are available for that model.
- Comfort and use: Consider ventilation, removable liner, weight, and the closure system as manufacturer or retailer specifications, not proof of crash protection.
- Evidence: Separate independently verifiable approval and test results from manufacturer specifications, retailer claims, and rider opinions.
