These are not directly interchangeable: they range from a compact, flexible five-to-seven-seater to larger hybrid, diesel and electric people-movers. The prices commonly shown in comparison listings are ex-showroom, so a car advertised below ₹30 lakh can exceed that amount after registration, insurance and local taxes.
This guide uses the “minivan” wording shoppers search for, while explaining the Indian market’s usual terms: MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and MUV (multi-utility vehicle). The figures below are price snapshots reported by Autocar India in 2026 and Renault India information accessed in 2026; confirm the live variant, offer and city-specific quote before booking.

First decide whether ₹30 lakh is ex-showroom or on-road
An ex-showroom ceiling of ₹30 lakh and an on-road ceiling of ₹30 lakh produce very different shortlists. Ex-showroom prices exclude registration, road tax, insurance and other local charges. Those additions vary by state and city, vehicle variant, insurance selection and dealer offer.
The difference is material even within this shortlist. Autocar India lists a Toyota Innova HyCross VX(O) Hybrid at about ₹28.3 lakh ex-showroom, while the same report puts its Delhi on-road price at roughly ₹32 lakh. Therefore, a buyer with a firm ₹30 lakh on-road limit may need a less expensive HyCross trim or another model.

Before comparing equipment, request a written quotation for your city that identifies:
- exact variant and powertrain;
- ex-showroom price on the quotation date;
- registration and state road tax;
- insurance, accessories and handling charges;
- any cash discount, exchange benefit or finance-linked offer; and
- the final amount payable, including taxes.
Prices in this article are not guaranteed dealer quotes. Renault’s own price page states that listed prices are ex-showroom, exclude local taxes and that the final valid price is the price on the purchase date.
2026 shortlist: MPVs listed below or around ₹30 lakh
The table is a starting point, not a definitive ranking. Exact trims, seating layouts and equipment can differ, and the HyCross range extends above the stated budget.

| Toyota Innova HyCross | ₹18.70–31.84 lakh (Autocar India, 2026) | Petrol and hybrid variants; only some trims are below ₹30 lakh | Eligible trim, on-road total, seat layout, delivery and current equipment |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | ₹19.77–26.63 lakh (Autocar India, 2026) | Diesel-only in the listing | Exact trim price, seating configuration and local running-cost assumptions |
| Maruti Suzuki Invicto | ₹24.97–28.70 lakh (Autocar India, 2026) | Hybrid MPV | Variant-specific features, on-road quote and comparison with HyCross choices |
| BYD eMax 7 | ₹26.90–29.90 lakh (Autocar India, 2026) | Electric MPV candidate | Real-world route suitability, charging access, warranty and local support |

| Maruti Suzuki XL6 | ₹11.62–14.42 lakh (Autocar India, 2026) | Lower-priced MPV candidate | Six-seat configuration, third-row access and boot space for your use |
| Renault Triber | ₹5.81–9.00 lakh (Autocar India, 2026); Renault India lists a starting price of ₹5,80,875 | Five-to-seven seats; removable third row and flexible configurations | Final purchase-date price, seating arrangement and local dealer support |
Autocar India’s listing is dynamic. Treat every range as a dated snapshot rather than a promise that all variants remain available at those prices.
How to read the price bands
The list contains three distinct spending groups. The Triber sits at the budget end, with a large gap between its reported starting and maximum prices and the ₹30 lakh ceiling. The XL6 and Carens Clavis occupy a middle band, leaving room in the budget for registration, insurance or a higher trim. The HyCross, Crysta, Invicto and eMax 7 sit closer to the upper limit, so city taxes and insurance can determine whether a particular variant remains affordable.
Do not compare the lowest price of one model with the highest price of another and then call one universally better value. Instead, select a target total, such as ₹30 lakh on-road, and ask each dealer for the closest available variant below it. Record the quotation date because promotions, taxes and inventory can change.
Which model fits which buyer?
Choose the HyCross when you need a larger MPV and can stay within a qualifying trim
The Innova HyCross is the most important budget check in this group because its displayed range straddles ₹30 lakh. A lower or mid-range petrol or hybrid variant may fit an ex-showroom ceiling, while higher variants do not. If ₹30 lakh is your on-road limit, the roughly ₹32 lakh Delhi example shows why you must calculate locally before assuming the car qualifies.
Choose the Crysta when a diesel three-row Toyota is the priority
The Innova Crysta is listed entirely below ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, from ₹19.77 lakh to ₹26.63 lakh in Autocar India’s 2026 snapshot. It is diesel-only in that listing. The sensible comparison is the exact Crysta trim against similarly priced HyCross, Invicto or Carens variants, not the model names alone. Ask how the chosen seating arrangement works with your luggage and whether authorized service is convenient in your area.

Choose the Invicto when a hybrid MPV near the upper budget is attractive
The Maruti Suzuki Invicto is listed at ₹24.97–28.70 lakh ex-showroom and is described as a hybrid MPV. At this price, an on-road quote can approach or exceed an on-road ₹30 lakh cap depending on location. Compare its actual variant, equipment and delivery terms with the HyCross trim you can purchase in your city. A written quote should show whether accessories or insurance have pushed the total beyond your limit.
Choose the eMax 7 only after checking your charging and support plan
The BYD eMax 7 appears at ₹26.90–29.90 lakh ex-showroom in the 2026 listing, making it an electric candidate under the advertised ceiling. The available information does not establish a complete, comparable range, charging-time, route or service analysis for this article. Your decision should therefore begin with home or workplace charging, regular trip length, public-charger availability and local after-sales support. Confirm charger installation responsibility, warranty wording and the nearest authorized workshop before paying a booking amount.
Choose the Carens or Carens Clavis when layout choice and a broad price spread matter
Kia’s product information describes the Carens family in six- and seven-seat forms. That distinction changes second-row access and how passengers use the third row. The Carens Clavis is listed at ₹11.39–21.79 lakh ex-showroom, leaving substantial room below a ₹30 lakh ceiling for insurance, registration or a higher trim. Verify Clavis-specific equipment and powertrain details separately; do not assume that every Carens feature or variant carries over unchanged.
Choose the XL6 when a six-seat arrangement suits your household
The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is listed at ₹11.62–14.42 lakh ex-showroom. Its lower price can preserve a large buffer for on-road costs, but the relevant question is whether its seating configuration works for your family. Inspect second-row access, third-row legroom and luggage capacity with all seats occupied rather than treating “six seats” as automatically better than seven. If grandparents or adults use the rear row regularly, have them sit there during the test drive.
Choose the Triber when flexibility and a low purchase price come first
Renault describes the Triber as a five-to-seven-seat family car with a removable third row and more than 100 seating configurations. Autocar India’s 2026 listing shows ₹5.81–9.00 lakh ex-showroom, while Renault India lists a starting price of ₹5,80,875 and notes that the final purchase-date price is the valid one. The removable third row can let you prioritize luggage on ordinary days and add seats when required. Confirm how your preferred configuration affects access, luggage and child-seat placement.
Compare the things that actually change daily use
Six seats versus seven
A nominal seat count does not tell you how easily adults reach the third row or how much luggage remains. A six-seat layout may provide a walk-through or captain-chair arrangement, while a seven-seat layout may maximize passenger capacity. During a viewing, sit in every row, try the second-row slide or tilt mechanism and load the bags you normally carry. Record whether the third row can be folded, removed or reconfigured; the Triber’s removable third row is a specifically documented example, while other models require model- and trim-level confirmation.
Petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric
- Petrol: generally suits buyers who want a conventional refuelling routine; compare the exact engine and gearbox offered on the chosen trim.
- Diesel: the Crysta is identified as diesel-only in the listing. Consider your annual distance, city restrictions and service requirements rather than assuming diesel is always cheaper to run.
- Hybrid: the HyCross and Invicto are listed with hybrid variants. Confirm which trim contains the hybrid system and whether its on-road price remains within your cap.
- Electric: the eMax 7 requires a charging plan. Calculate where you will charge on normal days and what you will do on longer journeys before comparing it with combustion models.
No reliable, trim-matched mileage comparison was established for this shortlist, so do not use an unsourced kilometres-per-litre or kilometres-per-charge figure to declare a winner.
Vehicle size and manoeuvrability
The shortlist spans compact family transport and larger people-movers. A bigger cabin can help on long trips but may be harder to fit into your garage or narrow parking space. Check turning space, door opening clearance, seat access and visibility on a real test drive at home, work and the places you visit most often. This guide does not claim a measured manoeuvrability result for any model.

Boot space with all rows in use
Manufacturers and listings do not provide a consistently comparable cargo figure here, so use your own luggage as the test. Place the largest suitcase, stroller, school bags or work equipment behind the third row, then repeat with the third row folded or removed where the design permits. Check whether bags obstruct the rear view or seat-belt access. A vehicle that carries seven people but not their usual luggage may not meet your real requirement.
Safety, warranty and service support
Current, comparable safety scores, full equipment matrices, warranty terms, service reach and ownership costs were not established consistently for every candidate. Ask the manufacturer or dealer for the current brochure and written terms for your exact variant. Confirm standard versus optional safety equipment, warranty coverage, service intervals, roadside assistance and the location of authorized workshops before paying a booking amount.
A step-by-step way to buy within the real budget
- Set the budget basis. Write “₹30 lakh ex-showroom” or “₹30 lakh on-road” at the top of your comparison sheet. Do not use both figures interchangeably.
- Get two local quotations. Ask dealers for the same variant, insurance basis and accessory list so the totals are comparable. Remove unwanted accessories and handling items before comparing.
- Define the seating need. Decide how many adults travel regularly, whether children need dedicated seats and whether you need six or seven usable seats every week.
- Measure the storage requirement. Bring your largest suitcase, stroller or work equipment to the dealership. Check boot space with the third row raised and folded.
- Match the powertrain to your routine. Select petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric based on daily distance, fuel or charging access and the type of highway travel you actually do.
- Shortlist two or three exact variants. Compare variant codes, not only model names. The HyCross in particular has both below- and above-₹30-lakh ex-showroom versions.
- Book a proper test drive. Drive with the family members who will use the third row, test low-speed parking and assess ingress, egress, ride comfort and visibility.
- Verify availability in writing. Ask for the manufacturing month, expected delivery date, colour, variant, price validity and refund terms for the booking.
- Recheck the final invoice. Ensure the registration state, insurance, taxes, discounts, accessories and finance charges match the agreed quotation before making the balance payment.
Test-drive checklist for a three-row MPV
- Enter and exit the third row without moving the front seats excessively.
- Check whether an adult can sit in the third row for your normal journey length.
- Install your child seat or booster in the intended row and test belt access.
- Fold, slide or remove seats yourself; do not rely on a salesperson’s demonstration.
- Load everyday luggage with every passenger seated.
- Test the air-conditioning reach to the rear rows and the visibility from each driving position.
- Perform a tight parking manoeuvre and check bonnet, rear and side visibility.
- For an electric model, confirm the charger location, installation responsibility, charging connector and backup plan for trips.
- Request written details of warranty, service interval, roadside assistance and the nearest authorized workshop.
Common mistakes that make an apparently affordable MPV unaffordable
Calling the whole HyCross range “under ₹30 lakh”
Its listed range reaches ₹31.84 lakh ex-showroom. State the qualifying variant or price band instead of applying the lower starting figure to every version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Using an ex-showroom list as an on-road promise
Registration, insurance and state taxes can move the total materially. The Delhi HyCross example demonstrates the risk; obtain a local quotation.
Comparing model names instead of trims
Seat layouts, powertrains and equipment can vary within a model family. Put the exact variant and quotation date in every row of your spreadsheet.
Choosing seat count without checking access and luggage
Six, seven and five-to-seven-seat descriptions do not show how passengers and bags fit together. Test the layout with your family and luggage.
Assuming electric ownership works without a charging assessment
The eMax 7 is a shortlist candidate, but route pattern, charging access and local support must be checked for your circumstances.

Questions buyers commonly ask
Which 7-seater car is best under ₹30 lakh in India?
There is no single answer without knowing whether the limit is ex-showroom or on-road, and whether you prefer diesel, hybrid, petrol or electric power. Compare qualifying HyCross, Crysta, Invicto, Carens, Carens Clavis and eMax 7 variants, then test third-row access and luggage capacity. The Triber also offers five-to-seven-seat flexibility at a much lower price.
Is ₹30 lakh enough for an Innova HyCross on-road?
It may be enough for some variants in some cities, but not for every trim. Autocar India reports a VX(O) Hybrid at about ₹28.3 lakh ex-showroom and roughly ₹32 lakh on-road in Delhi. Ask a Toyota dealer for the exact variant and registration-state total before assuming it fits.
Is the entire Innova HyCross range below ₹30 lakh?
No. The reported ex-showroom range is ₹18.70–31.84 lakh, so only qualifying variants fall below ₹30 lakh. Higher trims exceed the ceiling even before on-road charges.

Which option leaves the biggest budget buffer?
The Renault Triber has the lowest reported range at ₹5.81–9.00 lakh ex-showroom, followed by the XL6 at ₹11.62–14.42 lakh and Carens Clavis at ₹11.39–21.79 lakh. Use the buffer for on-road charges only after checking the seating and equipment you actually need.
Does the Triber really seat five to seven people?
Renault describes it as a five-to-seven-seat family car with a removable third row and more than 100 seating configurations. Confirm your preferred arrangement in person and check how removing or installing the third row changes luggage room and child-seat access.
Should I choose six seats or seven?
Choose six if easier movement between rows and individual second-row seats suit your household; choose seven if maximum passenger capacity matters more. The correct answer depends on who travels regularly. Have all intended passengers sit in every row during the test drive.
Is the BYD eMax 7 a safe recommendation for every family?
It is an electric candidate listed at ₹26.90–29.90 lakh ex-showroom, but suitability depends on charging access, route pattern, public-charger availability, warranty and local support. Verify those practical points in your city rather than relying on the price alone.

Bottom line: choose by budget basis and use case
For the largest selection, compare qualifying Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Invicto, eMax 7, Carens and Carens Clavis variants against your city’s on-road total. The XL6 offers a lower-cost six-seat path, while the Triber is the budget-focused flexible option with a removable third row. None is universally “best”: the right choice depends on whether your priority is a larger cabin, diesel or hybrid operation, electric charging practicality, six- or seven-seat access, or simply leaving a substantial buffer below ₹30 lakh.
