Choose the smaller UX 250h if compact size matters most, the RX 350h for a larger conventional hybrid, or an NX 450h+ or RX 450h+ if you can charge regularly and want electric-only range. These recommendations are based on Lexus-published specifications, not independent comparative testing.
How the 2024 Lexus hybrid lineup breaks down
“Hybrid” covers several distinct powertrains in Lexus’s 2024 U.S. lineup. Conventional hybrids use a battery and electric motor alongside the engine but do not plug in. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) can be charged from an outlet and have an EPA-estimated electric range. Lexus also sells performance-oriented hybrids, where output is a central consideration. The 2024 Lexus roster includes the ES Hybrid, LC Hybrid, LS Hybrid, NX Hybrid, NX PHEV, RX Hybrid, RX PHEV and UX Hybrid. Lexus’s newsroom index also lists the TX 500h and TX 550h+ as 2024 entries.
The table separates these powertrain types and uses only the figures established for the 2024 U.S. models. MPG and MPGe are different measures: do not compare them as if they were equivalent fuel-economy figures.
| Model | Type and configuration | Published figures | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| UX 250h | Conventional hybrid; front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive | 181 total system horsepower (Lexus, 2023) | Drivers who want the smaller hybrid-only crossover |
| NX 350h | Conventional hybrid; all-wheel drive | 240 combined system horsepower; 39 MPG combined (Lexus, 2023) | Broadest all-around crossover recommendation |
| NX 450h+ | Plug-in hybrid; all-wheel drive | 304 combined system horsepower; 37 miles EPA-estimated electric range; 84 MPGe combined (Lexus, 2023) | Drivers who can charge and want electric-only driving for shorter trips |
| RX 350h | Conventional hybrid; all-wheel drive | 246 net combined horsepower; 36 MPG combined (Lexus, 2023) | Those seeking a larger crossover without plug-in charging |
| RX 450h+ | Plug-in hybrid; all-wheel drive | 304 net combined horsepower; 37 miles EPA-estimated electric range; 83 MPGe combined (Lexus, 2023) | Drivers who want a larger PHEV and can charge routinely |
| RX 500h | Performance hybrid; all-wheel drive | 366 net combined horsepower; 406 lb-ft of torque (Lexus, 2023) | RX shoppers who prioritize output over fuel economy |
| ES Hybrid, LS 500h and LC Hybrid | Hybrid sedans and coupe | LS 500h AWD: 354 system horsepower (Lexus, 2024 brochure); comparable figures for the ES and LC are not stated in the cited Lexus materials | Buyers choosing a sedan or coupe rather than a crossover |
| TX 500h and TX 550h+ | Electrified three-row alternatives; specific powertrain details vary by model | Comparable specifications are not stated in the cited Lexus materials | Shoppers who need three rows |
Best Lexus hybrid for most crossover shoppers: NX 350h
The NX 350h makes the clearest broad-use recommendation among the models with comparable figures: its 240 combined system horsepower and Lexus-published 39 MPG combined EPA estimate bring together useful crossover format, output and efficiency. Lexus describes its system as a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid, and the 2024 model is all-wheel drive. The result is a strong specification-led choice for someone who wants a conventional hybrid without charging routines.

The 39 MPG figure is an EPA estimate published by Lexus, not a real-world test result or a guarantee of what every driver will achieve. Lexus described the 2024 NX as largely a carryover from 2023, so the listed figures provide a useful basis for identifying the model, but an individual used vehicle’s trim and condition still matter.
Best smaller Lexus hybrid: UX 250h
The UX 250h is the compact choice. In the U.S., Lexus offered the 2024 UX only as a hybrid, with 181 total system horsepower and front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations. It suits shoppers who prefer a smaller crossover and do not need plug-in capability. The cited figures do not establish a direct comparison of cargo space or real-world efficiency against the NX, so prioritize a test-fit of your passengers and belongings before deciding on size.

Best larger conventional hybrid: RX 350h
Choose the RX 350h if you want a larger crossover than the NX but do not want to plug in. Lexus lists all-wheel drive, 246 net combined horsepower and 36 MPG combined for the 2024 RX 350h. Its published combined MPG estimate is lower than the NX 350h’s; that difference should be weighed against the size and passenger needs you have, not treated as a like-for-like test of the vehicles.
Best plug-in hybrids: NX 450h+ and RX 450h+
The NX 450h+ and RX 450h+ make sense when you can charge routinely and value their EPA-estimated electric range for shorter trips. Each has 37 miles of EPA-estimated electric range and 304 combined horsepower in Lexus’s published 2024 specifications. The NX is rated at 84 MPGe combined, while the RX is rated at 83 MPGe combined. MPGe accounts for electrical energy use and is not interchangeable with MPG.

NX 450h+: smaller PHEV choice
The all-wheel-drive NX 450h+ pairs its 37-mile EPA-estimated electric range with 84 MPGe combined. Lexus says it includes a Level 1 cable for 120-volt outlets and uses a CCS1 socket. It is the PHEV to consider if you prefer the NX’s smaller crossover format and can make use of regular charging.
RX 450h+: larger PHEV choice
The all-wheel-drive RX 450h+ has a 37-mile EPA-estimated electric range and 83 MPGe combined. It uses a J1772 socket and includes a Level 1 charging cable. Lexus says that under ideal 240-volt conditions, its standard 6.6 kW onboard charger can recharge the vehicle in about two and a half hours. That is a stated ideal-condition estimate, not a promise for every outlet, installation or charging session.

Decide whether plugging in is practical
A PHEV’s electric range is useful only if charging fits your routine. Before choosing one, consider whether you have access to a suitable outlet at home or work and how often you would use it. Lexus includes a Level 1 cable with these models, so a separate charging unit is not mandatory. A Level 2 charger may be a consideration for some owners, but installation, electrical suitability and costs depend on the home and should be checked separately.

The RX 500h is the output-led choice in the RX family, with 366 net combined horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque in Lexus’s 2024 brochure. Lexus identifies its system as a performance hybrid with DIRECT4 all-wheel drive and a six-speed electronically controlled transmission. Those specifications make it the RX to shortlist when power is more important than choosing a fuel-economy-first hybrid. They do not establish comparative acceleration or handling performance.

Best Lexus hybrid sedan or coupe: choose by body style
The 2024 U.S. lineup also includes the ES Hybrid, LS Hybrid and LC Hybrid. The available comparable specification set is incomplete, so the evidence does not support ranking one of these three as the overall sedan-or-coupe winner. Choose among them based first on whether you want a sedan or coupe and then on your luxury, passenger and driving priorities.
For the LS 500h AWD specifically, Lexus’s 2024 brochure states 354 system horsepower. That figure describes the LS 500h, not the ES Hybrid or LC Hybrid.
Best three-row Lexus hybrid option: check the TX specifications
Lexus’s newsroom index includes 2024 TX 500h and TX 550h+ entries, making them relevant electrified alternatives for shoppers who need three rows. The cited materials do not establish enough comparable specifications to rank the two TX powertrains precisely against one another or against the NX and RX. Confirm the exact model, trim, powertrain and features on the vehicle listing before comparing a specific TX with another hybrid.
How to choose the right 2024 Lexus hybrid
- Start with body style and space. Decide whether you need a compact or larger crossover, three rows, a sedan or a coupe. Compare the specific vehicle’s passenger and cargo fit with your needs.
- Choose the powertrain category. A conventional hybrid avoids plug-in charging; a PHEV adds an electric-only range and makes routine charging relevant; a performance hybrid emphasizes output.
- Compare the right efficiency measure. Use combined MPG for conventional hybrids and consider MPGe alongside electric range for PHEVs. MPG and MPGe are not directly equivalent.
- Check drivetrain and output. Match horsepower and drivetrain details to your priorities, while remembering that specifications alone do not establish real-world driving performance.
- Verify the vehicle and local deal. For a 2024 model in 2026, check local new or used inventory, the exact trim and powertrain, vehicle condition and transaction price. Availability and used prices vary by location and vehicle.
The figures here are Lexus-published specifications and EPA estimates; they are not independent road-test results. They also do not establish reliability, owner satisfaction, current transaction prices or an objective overall ranking. The “best” choice is therefore a use-case recommendation, not a measured winner.
