If your ₹9 lakh limit is ex-showroom, Hyundai India currently has four relevant nameplates: Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, i20 and Exter. The Grand i10 NIOS and Aura are fully within the published band; only entry variants of the i20 and Exter stay below ₹9 lakh. An on-road ₹9 lakh budget is stricter because registration, insurance, taxes, location and variant selection are added locally.
The shortlist below uses Hyundai Motor India’s listed prices and configurations. Confirm the exact city quote and variant availability with a Hyundai dealer before booking because prices and variants can change.

The four Hyundai models that can fit an ex-showroom ₹9 lakh ceiling
Hyundai’s official model finder lists four cars whose starting prices are below ₹9 lakh. Their price bands are not equally eligible: two models remain below the ceiling throughout their listed range, while two cross it in higher trims.

What the price bands tell you immediately
The table is more useful than a simple list of starting prices. Grand i10 NIOS and Aura have maximum listed prices of ₹8.04 lakh and ₹8.59 lakh respectively, so every version shown in Hyundai’s current bands is under ₹9 lakh ex-showroom. The i20 reaches ₹10.63 lakh and the Exter reaches ₹9.41 lakh, so a search for either model must be trim-specific.
That distinction also prevents a common mistake: saying that “the i20 costs under ₹9 lakh” or “the Exter costs under ₹9 lakh” without saying which version. The accurate wording is that lower-priced versions start below the threshold. A dealer quote must identify the exact trim, fuel and gearbox.
First decide what “₹9 lakh” means
Ex-showroom budget
An ex-showroom cap compares the manufacturer’s published vehicle price before local registration and other purchase charges. On that basis, the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura remain within ₹9 lakh across the listed bands. The i20 and Exter qualify only in their lower-priced versions.
On-road budget
An on-road cap includes the ex-showroom price plus costs that vary by state and city, such as registration, road tax, insurance and applicable taxes. A car priced at ₹8.04 lakh ex-showroom can therefore exceed ₹9 lakh on the road. The cited starting prices cannot prove that any specific version will meet an on-road ceiling in your location.
Ask the dealer for a written, city-specific quotation containing the exact variant, fuel type, transmission, insurance choice, registration and every tax or fee. Hyundai’s price pages warn that prices and variants can change without notice, so use the quote—not an old web table—as the purchase decision.
Why a small ex-showroom gap is not a guaranteed saving
Even when a model’s published price sits comfortably below ₹9 lakh, the final amount depends on where the vehicle is registered and which version is selected. Insurance and registration are not fixed nationwide figures in the cited Hyundai listings. Treat the listed band as a screening tool; treat the itemised quotation as the amount you must fund.
Grand i10 NIOS: the safest full-range fit
The Grand i10 NIOS is the most straightforward choice when “under ₹9 lakh” refers to the entire ex-showroom range. Hyundai lists it as a hatchback with a ₹5.59–8.04 lakh band and a ₹5,59,700 entry price. Petrol and CNG versions, along with manual and automatic choices, are listed by Hyundai.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWhy it belongs on the shortlist
- Every version in the published ₹5.59–8.04 lakh range is below the ₹9 lakh ex-showroom ceiling.
- The hatchback body is the appropriate starting point if you want a smaller footprint rather than a sedan or SUV shape.
- Petrol/CNG and manual/automatic availability gives you more configuration paths than a single-fuel, single-transmission range.
- Its listed entry price is the lowest of the four candidates, at ₹5,59,700, although the final on-road figure will be higher.
What to verify before choosing a trim
The available evidence does not provide a consistent, trim-by-trim equipment table, so do not assume that a feature shown in an advertisement is standard on the cheapest version. Ask for the exact variant’s equipment list, CNG availability, transmission, waiting period and the final on-road total.
If you are comparing two Grand i10 NIOS versions, write down the incremental ex-showroom price and then request the same comparison in an on-road quote. This keeps optional accessories and insurance choices from being confused with the manufacturer’s vehicle price.

Aura: a sedan that stays below the ex-showroom ceiling
The Aura is Hyundai’s sedan option in this group. Its listed range is ₹5.99–8.59 lakh ex-showroom, with an entry figure of ₹5,99,990. Hyundai lists petrol and CNG choices and manual and automatic transmissions.
When the Aura makes more sense
- Choose it if a three-box sedan body is more useful to you than a hatchback or SUV profile.
- The full listed range remains below ₹9 lakh ex-showroom, giving you more headroom than the i20 or Exter when comparing higher versions.
- Fuel and transmission choices can be matched to your use case, but the selected combination must be confirmed in the current city quotation.
- Its ₹8.59 lakh upper listed price is below the ex-showroom ceiling, although that does not make the top version a guaranteed ₹9 lakh on-road purchase.
Check the price boundary carefully
The ₹8.59 lakh upper figure is still an ex-showroom number. Insurance, registration and taxes can push a top Aura version beyond a ₹9 lakh on-road target. If your limit is on-road, begin with the entry and mid-range versions and have the dealer calculate the complete amount.

i20: premium-hatchback appeal, but only lower versions qualify
Hyundai lists the i20 from ₹5.99 lakh to ₹10.63 lakh ex-showroom. Its entry price is ₹5,99,000, so the model qualifies for an ex-showroom ₹9 lakh search only at the lower end of the range. Higher versions are outside the ceiling.
In a Hyundai Motor India press release dated 5 February 2026, National Sales Head Sunil Moolchandani described the revised ₹5,99,000 starting price as making the i20 experience more accessible. That statement is Hyundai’s promotional positioning, not an independent assessment of performance or value. Read the release at Hyundai’s i20 line-up and starting-price announcement.
How to shop the i20 within ₹9 lakh
- Start with the current entry price and list the specific versions available in your city.
- Remove any version whose ex-showroom price is ₹9 lakh or more; the model’s published upper range confirms that not every i20 qualifies.
- Request the on-road total for each remaining version, because a qualifying ex-showroom price may still exceed an on-road budget.
- Compare only equipment confirmed for those exact trims. The available model-level data does not establish a complete, uniform feature comparison.
- Keep the ₹10.63 lakh upper figure in mind when reading older articles or advertisements; a “starting from” price does not describe the entire i20 line-up.
The i20 is therefore a conditional recommendation: it fits a ₹9 lakh ex-showroom search if you are comfortable with an entry or lower version, not as a blanket recommendation for the whole line-up.
Exter: the SUV-shaped option, with a trim cutoff
The Exter is the SUV-style choice among these four models. Hyundai lists a ₹5.80–9.41 lakh ex-showroom range and an entry price of ₹5,80,600. Because the upper end exceeds ₹9 lakh, only lower versions meet the ceiling.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPowertrain information Hyundai confirms
The Exter price page identifies a 1.2-litre petrol engine, a five-speed manual and Smart Auto AMT, with a CNG option. Hyundai’s broader model finder also lists petrol/CNG and manual/automatic availability. Match the fuel and transmission to the exact variant in the quotation; availability is not necessarily identical across the range.
How to avoid crossing the limit
- Use the ₹5,80,600 entry figure only as a starting point, not as an on-road promise.
- Check the ex-showroom price of the precise petrol, CNG, manual or AMT version you want.
- Exclude versions priced above ₹9 lakh ex-showroom before adding accessories or other charges.
- Have the dealer recalculate the total for your registration location.
- Ask whether the requested CNG or Smart Auto AMT combination is offered in the particular trim, rather than assuming every listed powertrain is available throughout the range.
Choosing among the four by body style and budget logic
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Reason supported by the listed data |
|---|---|---|
| A complete model range below ₹9 lakh ex-showroom | Grand i10 NIOS or Aura | Both published ranges end below ₹9 lakh. |
| A hatchback with the lowest listed entry price | Grand i10 NIOS | Its entry price is ₹5,59,700, below the i20’s ₹5,99,000 starting figure. |
| A sedan body | Aura | It is the only sedan in this four-model shortlist. |
| An SUV body | Exter | It is the SUV-style model, but higher versions exceed the ceiling. |
| The i20 specifically | Lower i20 versions | The model starts below ₹9 lakh but reaches ₹10.63 lakh at the top of Hyundai’s listed band. |
| Petrol/CNG flexibility | Grand i10 NIOS, Aura or Exter | Hyundai lists petrol/CNG availability for these models; confirm the exact trim. |
| An automatic option | Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, i20 or Exter subject to trim | Hyundai’s overview lists automatic availability for the first, second and fourth models, while i20 equipment and configuration must be checked by version. |
This is a price-and-configuration framework, not a ranking of mileage, crash-test results, ride comfort, reliability, resale value or long-term ownership cost. The available manufacturer listings do not establish comparable evidence for those attributes.
How to compare variants without overclaiming equipment
Start with the exact variant name shown on the official price page. Record its ex-showroom price, fuel and transmission in a worksheet. Then request the dealer’s specification sheet for that same version. A feature visible in a higher-version brochure image is not proof that it is included in the entry version.

For a fair comparison, use identical questions for each candidate: Is it petrol or CNG? Is the gearbox manual or automatic? What is the exact ex-showroom figure in the chosen city? Which items are factory-fitted, and which are optional accessories? What insurance plan and registration amount are included in the quote? This process is more reliable than comparing four different websites’ “from” prices.

Step-by-step process to buy within the limit
- Set the budget definition. Write “₹9 lakh ex-showroom” or “₹9 lakh on-road” at the top of your shortlist. Do not mix the two figures.
- Choose the body style. Select hatchback (Grand i10 NIOS or i20), sedan (Aura) or SUV (Exter) before comparing trims.
- Filter the official range. Use Hyundai’s model finder to identify the current band and remove versions at or above ₹9 lakh ex-showroom.
- Select fuel and transmission. Decide whether you need petrol or CNG and manual or automatic, then verify that combination on the exact price page and quotation.
- Request the equipment sheet. Compare only features stated for the selected trim. Do not infer that a higher-version feature is included in the entry version.
- Get the local on-road quote. Ask for registration, insurance, taxes, fees and optional accessories as separate line items.
- Check the arithmetic. Confirm that the variant name, fuel, transmission and ex-showroom price on the quotation match your shortlist.
- Reconfirm immediately before booking. Hyundai says prices and variants can change; obtain a fresh quote and verify delivery timing and cancellation terms with the dealer.
Common mistakes that make a “₹9 lakh” shortlist inaccurate
Treating a starting price as the price of every version
A starting price proves only that at least one version begins below the threshold. The i20 and Exter demonstrate why this matters: their listed ranges extend to ₹10.63 lakh and ₹9.41 lakh respectively.
Calling an ex-showroom figure on-road
All figures in the comparison table are ex-showroom. Registration, insurance, taxes and location-specific charges can change eligibility.
Using an old variant list
Manufacturer line-ups change. The i20’s 5 February 2026 announcement and the current price pages show why the date and source of a figure matter. Ask for the latest city quotation.
Assuming equipment is identical across trims
The available model-level listings do not provide a uniform trim-by-trim equipment matrix for all four cars. Obtain the exact specification sheet instead of extrapolating from a brochure image or a higher trim.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Ignoring fuel or gearbox availability for the chosen trim
Hyundai lists broad petrol/CNG and manual/automatic availability for several models, but that does not mean every combination is offered in every version. Have the dealer write the fuel and transmission on the quotation before paying a booking amount.
Adding accessories without checking the ceiling
An accessory package can increase the amount you pay even when the vehicle itself meets an ex-showroom filter. Keep factory price, optional accessories, insurance and registration as separate lines so you know which item caused the total to rise.

Yes, lower Exter versions start at ₹5,80,600 ex-showroom. The listed range reaches ₹9.41 lakh, so higher versions do not qualify.
Which is the cheapest Hyundai in this shortlist?
By the cited entry prices, the Grand i10 NIOS starts lowest at ₹5,59,700, followed by Exter at ₹5,80,600, i20 at ₹5,99,000 and Aura at ₹5,99,990.
Are these on-road prices?
No. Every figure in the comparison is ex-showroom. Your city, registration, insurance, taxes, selected variant and optional accessories determine the on-road amount.
Which shortlisted Hyundai is a sedan?
The Aura is the sedan. Grand i10 NIOS and i20 are hatchbacks, while Exter is the SUV-style option.
Which models list CNG?
Hyundai’s model finder lists petrol/CNG availability for Grand i10 NIOS, Aura and Exter. Confirm the CNG version and its transmission for the exact trim in your city.
Does the Exter have an automatic option?

Is the i20’s ₹5,99,000 price a price for every i20?
No. It is the listed entry price. Hyundai’s published i20 band runs to ₹10.63 lakh, so the lower starting figure does not apply to all versions.
How can I keep an on-road purchase below ₹9 lakh?
Ask a Hyundai dealer for a city-specific, itemised quote, then select a version whose ex-showroom price leaves enough room for registration, insurance and taxes. The cited prices alone cannot guarantee an on-road result.
Can prices change after I receive a quote?
Hyundai’s price pages state that prices and variants can change without notice. Reconfirm the amount, variant, delivery timing and booking terms immediately before purchase.

For the broadest interpretation of “under ₹9 lakh ex-showroom,” begin with the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura because their entire published ranges stay below the ceiling. Select between them by body style: hatchback versus sedan. Add the Exter if an SUV body is essential, but restrict the search to lower versions. Add the i20 if you specifically want that hatchback and accept that only lower versions qualify. In every case, convert the shortlist into a current, city-specific on-road quote before committing.
