If your budget is ₹6 lakh ex-showroom, Hyundai India’s October 2026 model listing shows four new-car nameplates starting below that figure: Grand i10 NIOS (₹5.59 lakh), Exter (₹5.80 lakh), i20 (₹5.99 lakh) and Aura (₹5.99 lakh). These are entry prices, not on-road quotes, and only the starting trim of each model is guaranteed to be below the limit.
The Grand i10 NIOS has the lowest listed starting price. The Exter is the SUV-shaped choice, while the i20 and Aura reach the budget only at their entry points. Your actual payable amount depends on city, registration, insurance, variant and other applicable charges, so an on-road ceiling requires a city-specific quote.

Hyundai cars below ₹6 lakh: the current shortlist
Hyundai’s India model finder lists four models with a starting ex-showroom price below ₹6 lakh as of October 2026. “Under ₹6 lakh” in this article means the manufacturer’s advertised starting ex-showroom price. It does not mean every variant qualifies, nor does it mean the car can be registered and driven for ₹6 lakh in every city.

What “₹6 lakh” means when you buy a car
Ex-showroom price
Ex-showroom is the manufacturer’s listed price before costs that depend on where and how you register the vehicle. It is the figure used for the four-model shortlist above.
On-road price
On-road is the amount needed to take delivery and legally register the car. Hyundai says the total varies with the selected variant, insurance, registration, location and applicable charges. Because those inputs are missing from a nationwide query, there is no single honest on-road price for any of these models.
If ₹6 lakh is your absolute on-road limit, do not choose from the table by price alone. Ask a dealer for a written, city-specific quote that names the exact variant, fuel, transmission, insurance selection, registration amount and every additional charge. A car advertised at ₹5.99 lakh ex-showroom may exceed an on-road ceiling once those costs are added.
How the four models differ
Grand i10 NIOS: the lowest entry price
At ₹5.59 lakh ex-showroom, the Grand i10 NIOS is the cheapest listed Hyundai starting point in this group. That makes it the natural first model to investigate when the headline budget is fixed at ₹6 lakh ex-showroom.
Hyundai’s official price information identifies a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine and lists petrol and CNG choices, with manual and AMT configurations depending on trim. The general model page also names trim-dependent equipment; those features should not be treated as standard on the base variant unless the quotation confirms them.
Choose the NIOS first when your priorities are the lowest entry price, a hatchback format, or the ability to investigate a CNG version. The ₹5.59 lakh figure does not establish the price of a CNG, AMT or better-equipped version, so request each configuration separately.

Exter: the SUV-shaped choice
The Exter starts at ₹5.80 lakh ex-showroom. It is the only SUV body style in this four-model shortlist, which makes it relevant for buyers whose priority is an SUV form rather than the absolute lowest price.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe model listing shows petrol/CNG and manual/automatic availability. It does not establish that every fuel and transmission combination is offered at ₹5.80 lakh. Confirm the exact variant before treating any Exter as a sub-₹6-lakh purchase.
The Exter is therefore a body-style decision as much as a price decision: you are accepting a ₹21,000 higher listed entry point than the NIOS in exchange for considering Hyundai’s SUV-shaped model. That difference is only an ex-showroom comparison; local on-road totals can alter the gap.
i20: a near-limit hatchback
The i20’s listed starting price is ₹5.99 lakh ex-showroom, just ₹1,000 below the headline limit. This is a qualifying entry price, not evidence that the wider i20 range fits a ₹6 lakh budget.
For an i20 buyer, the most important check is whether the exact base variant remains acceptable after registration, insurance and other charges. If you need a particular fuel, transmission or feature set, obtain that variant’s quote rather than relying on the model’s starting number.
Aura: a sedan at the threshold
The Aura also starts at ₹5.99 lakh ex-showroom. It is the sedan alternative for buyers who prefer a three-box body style while staying just below the advertised threshold.

Hyundai’s model information lists petrol and bi-fuel CNG options and manual and AMT transmissions. As with the other models, the ₹5.99 lakh figure applies to the listed starting version; it does not confirm that a CNG, AMT or higher trim remains under ₹6 lakh.
Which Hyundai should you investigate first?
There is no evidence in the available official material for a universal winner on safety, mileage, reliability, maintenance cost, resale value or owner satisfaction. The sensible first choice depends on the constraint you cannot compromise.
| Your main priority | Start with | Why | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest listed entry price | Grand i10 NIOS | ₹5.59 lakh is the lowest starting figure in the shortlist. | Whether the desired fuel, transmission and equipment are available at or near the base price. |
| SUV body style | Exter | It is the SUV-shaped model and starts at ₹5.80 lakh. | Exact petrol/CNG and manual/automatic variant pricing in your city. |
| Hatchback, but specifically the i20 | i20 | Its starting price is ₹5.99 lakh, within the ex-showroom ceiling. | On-road total and whether the entry trim meets your requirements. |
| Sedan body style | Aura | It is the sedan option at a ₹5.99 lakh starting price. | Petrol or CNG, manual or AMT, and the complete local quotation. |
This is a screening framework, not an independent vehicle ranking. The listed prices and configurations identify which models deserve a quotation; they do not prove which car is safest, most economical or cheapest to own.

Petrol
All four models appear in Hyundai’s petrol model information. Petrol is the baseline configuration to price first because it is the clearest comparison across the shortlist. Ask for the exact engine and trim shown on the quotation; a model-level listing is not a promise that every petrol version costs below ₹6 lakh.
CNG and bi-fuel versions
Hyundai’s information identifies petrol/CNG availability for the Grand i10 NIOS and Exter, and petrol plus bi-fuel CNG availability for the Aura. A CNG listing alone does not establish a sub-₹6-lakh price. CNG equipment, trim and transmission can change the total, so request a separate CNG quote and check whether the quoted amount is ex-showroom or on-road.
Manual and automated manual transmission
The Grand i10 NIOS and Aura pages identify manual and AMT configurations; the Exter listing includes manual/automatic availability. The i20’s entry-price evidence does not establish a particular transmission at ₹5.99 lakh. An automatic or AMT should therefore be treated as a separate configuration to price, not as an automatic entitlement to the base-model price.

Step-by-step way to get a real ₹6 lakh answer
- Define the budget type. Write down whether ₹6 lakh is an ex-showroom ceiling or the maximum amount you can pay on-road. Do not mix the two.
- Select a city. Registration and other location-linked amounts vary, so a nationwide answer cannot supply your final total.
- Choose the body style. Shortlist the Grand i10 NIOS or i20 for a hatchback, Exter for an SUV shape, and Aura for a sedan.
- Choose fuel. Request petrol pricing first, then ask separately for CNG or bi-fuel CNG where that model lists it.
- Choose transmission. State manual, AMT or automatic before asking for the quote. Do not assume the transmission you want is the entry-priced one.
- Identify the exact variant. The dealer’s quotation should show the variant name, not only the model name.
- Request an itemised quote. It should separate ex-showroom price, insurance, registration and every applicable charge. Hyundai specifically notes that variant, insurance, registration, location and other charges affect the total.
- Check the arithmetic. Compare the complete on-road total with your ceiling, then confirm which equipment is included in that exact trim.
- Reconfirm before booking. Hyundai says prices and variants can change without notice; verify the live amount and availability with the dealer.
Common mistakes that make the shortlist misleading
Assuming every trim is under ₹6 lakh
A starting price applies to one entry configuration. It cannot be used to label an entire model range as sub-₹6 lakh. This is especially important for the i20 and Aura, whose qualifying prices are only ₹1,000 below the threshold.
Treating ex-showroom as the amount you need in hand
Registration, insurance, location-linked charges and the selected variant can move the final amount above the advertised figure. If your limit is on-road, use a city-specific quotation from the beginning.
Comparing different fuel or transmission versions as if they cost the same
A petrol manual entry version and a CNG or AMT version are not interchangeable price points. Ask for like-for-like quotes with the same budget definition.
Reading equipment from a general page as base-trim equipment
Hyundai’s NIOS price information names a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine and trim-dependent features. “Trim-dependent” is decisive: confirm the equipment on the exact variant rather than assuming the general model page describes the base car.
Using sales volume as a quality score
Hyundai’s 2024–25 annual report says, “The Grand i10 NIOS, with over 4 lakh units sold, continues to resonate with customers seeking value, comfort, and sustainability.” That is Hyundai’s own company statement about sales and positioning, not an independent audit of safety, reliability or owner satisfaction.
What is not established by the current price evidence
The official material supporting this shortlist does not provide a like-for-like independent comparison of crash safety, real-world fuel economy, maintenance bills, resale value, waiting periods or total cost of ownership. It also does not provide a city-by-city on-road table or a variant-by-variant list proving which combinations remain below ₹6 lakh.

That limitation matters because a low starting price can cease to be the best value once you select a different fuel, transmission or equipment level. Use the four models as a starting set for quotations, then make those additional checks before paying a booking amount.
When a used Hyundai may fit an on-road ₹6 lakh cap better
If ₹6 lakh is a strict on-road ceiling and none of the new entry variants works after local charges, a certified pre-owned route is a separate option to investigate. Hyundai exposes a used-car pathway under its H-Promise programme, but current inventory, inspection terms, pricing and availability depend on location and date. Treat it as a follow-up search rather than as a fifth new model under the threshold.
A practical decision checklist
- Have you written “ex-showroom” or “on-road” beside your ₹6 lakh budget?
- Is the quotation for your city and the exact registration location?
- Does it name a specific variant, fuel and transmission?
- Does the total separate insurance, registration and other charges?
- Have you checked whether the equipment you need is standard on that variant?
- If considering CNG, have you obtained a separate CNG quotation rather than using the petrol price?
- If considering AMT or automatic, have you confirmed that transmission’s actual price?
- Did you recheck the live price and availability immediately before booking?
Bottom line for buyers searching “top Hyundai cars below 6 lakh”
Four Hyundai nameplates currently clear the starting ex-showroom test: Grand i10 NIOS at ₹5.59 lakh, Exter at ₹5.80 lakh, and i20 and Aura at ₹5.99 lakh. Start with the Grand i10 NIOS if the lowest listed entry price matters most, the Exter if an SUV body style is essential, the i20 if you specifically want that hatchback, or the Aura for a sedan.
